FTX Outback Tracker Long Term Test Review (RGT EX86190 Pro Rescuer)

  • Just how good is FTX's top of the range trail rig? Is it worth the money? Is it capable and durable?
    I'm sure these are the questions that you want to know the answers to.
    Well, the simple answer is that it's great.
    I've been driving it for almost a year and I really can't fault it. Does that mean that it's perfect? No. Is any rig capable of everything? No, so why would anyone expect this to be.
    It's predominantly a trail rig, so there are a few things that let it down when it comes to pure rock crawling. It's a bit top heavy; this is true of plenty of good looking trail rigs, including the TRX4 Defender. It's also not got the best approach angle because of the large bumper but it's got loads of clearance, so as long as you're not trying to get up a massive vertical step, you'll usually be OK.
    Do you need locking differentials and a two speed transmission? No. Do you need an RC car? No. Are they fun? Most certainly. It's great to go trail driving with unlocked diffs, challenge your driving skills and then, if needed, lock the diffs and find things easy. The two speed is a similar case but very much depends on how you want to set it up if you're changing the motor. As it comes, you've got a reasonably slow low gear for crawling and lots of speed in high. You could take this either way if you want super-fine control or crazy speed.
    As far as durability is concerned, I've been really impressed. This thing has taken a different level of abuse to anything else that I've driven. It's had more rocky falls than Sylvester Stallone and it just keeps going. The only time I've ever had to carry it home was when the motor melted it's cooling fan but that was serious abuse and killed other cars that day.
    The quality of the body is another thing to highlight. As well as being incredibly tough, it looks great and the detail of all the bolt on plastic parts is fantastic, especially as they act as wire routing as well. Overall, it's a very clever body. Plus, there's now the bonus of getting an interior included with it.
    However you're going to use it and whatever sort of upgrade path you take, I'm sure that you're going to love this truck and its capabilities.

    Hello. Great Video and yes I'm a subscriber :) My Tracker just arrived yesterday. And unboxing was fun coming previously from a TRX4m. However there was a few flaws I found as you do with most things. Alot of wheel arch rub and alot of slop within the transmission and axles. First off I took the axles and transmission apart to find no grease at all. So greased everything up and retested. Soke of the sloppy noise has gone but still alot of slop. And it really hasn't got many options for drag brake etc. But as a whole not had at all

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for that.
      Cool that you've bought a Tracker; I'm sure you're going to have a great time together!
      There's certainly plenty of wheel rub on those arches. I'd recommend trimming them unless you're planning on fitting considerably smaller tyres. I'd recommend Proline Krawlers as the perfect all-round tyre for this truck. If you're going to fit any brass or scale nonsense (as we like to do) then I'd also recommend some firm foams of some description or things get a bit topply!
      I wouldn't worry about the slop. It's fairly typical and not a bad thing really, plus it gives a little less pressure on the lockers and the two-speed. I greased up all my transmission straight away and it's a good idea to check it on all RTRs. Sometimes you get lucky as I have with a few cars recently.
      I found the drag brake quite strong as stock but you'll probably change the ESC at some point and then be able to set it to whatever you want. For now, I'd say just get to know the car and how it drives, then when you do get a better ESC, it'll be like you've done a major upgrade with everything feeling silky smooth!
      Enjoy!

      @rcpie  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks, Duncan.
      I found the stock electronics to be waterproof. Regarding boxes to waterproof, they never work.. They'll always leak somewhere and then they hold the water in. I generally bin them, use conformal coating on the electronics and then mount them with Velcro.

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If I could only have one Crawler it would be my Tracker / Rescuer. A fantastic all-rounder. But of you've already got a good trail rig, then maybe consider a Gladius. Ugly but very very capable!
      The tyres are glued onto plastic, one-piece wheels. Neither wheel or tyre is very good. Probably it's weakest point.

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not entirely sure what you mean about little/full throttle.
      If forwards works but reverse doesn't, then you know that all the drive train is OK. That would make me think that the problem is the ESC. Have you checked the position of the jumper for reverse? It should be on the FBR or FR setting.
      Have a look at the manual for the esc on the hobbywing website.
