It's a freestlye but it ain't off the dome. Originally, freestyle meant that it was written but free of style, literally just rhyming shit with no deeper structure intended. The meaning just got confused over time and grouped in with the term "off the dome".

Freestyle sadly doesn't mean off the top anymore. Years ago. US people who has lived hip hop for years and years thunk of freestyle as off the top of the head but it has changed. It means. Now the artist is free to drop any verse he or she wants. Written,not written, etc... most people are still confused.
Alana Wrisley Freestyle never started as off the top. In the early 80s when Hip Hop officially solidified its culture, freestyle was meant anything “free” of “style” which could be written. And off the dome was it’s own separate meaning, basically saying you can go off top if you want to. Big Daddy Kane even said it himself that freestyle is in fact written, and I’d say that his word definitely matters in Hip Hop. But along the way, the two terms got intertwined and is now misinterpreted of it’s true meaning. So this is definitely a freestyle.
Dylan Maharaj there was a clip where a few of the vets like LL were asked what freestyle meant. All 3 had a different definition but 2 of 3 were off the dome. I miss that. Prewritten is what it is that they do now. It’s a gift to go off the dome. Makes the rapper even better. Prewritten isn’t as good to me. Being quick in thought is soooooo much better
