    Thank you very much for this great comparison. I bought Topas Photo AI about 6 months ago and it has always been a backup for DxO PureRAW and DxO PhotoLab6/7 when I don't have a RAW file. Thank you Dave . I am a long time user of Topaz products .
    I reckon they have updated Gigapixel Ai firmly aimed at those who generate images using Ai and need an upscaler .
    I got the update for free because the Annual License covers all the products you own .
    I would like to see Topaz remodel their pricing . My license covers things I no longer need or use . I would like to pay less for my annual license fee and it be just for Topaz Photo Ai which I use all the time .

    Thank you Dave for this in-depth comparison video. As per my comment in your Gigapixel review, I have been purchasing upgrades for the various individual functionality offered by Topaz AI in the past..- Sharpen AI, DeNoise AI, Gigapixel, Mask AI, Studio AI, etc and the Video Enhance AI. I always wondered why they are offered as separate and disjoint products vs an integrated photo solution. Then came Photo AI which rendered my previous products obsolete. So, I purchased Photo AI. Gigapixel was always left out. I have decided not to upgrade because I strongly feel that the Gigapixel functionality should be integrated into Photo AI vs offered as a separate product..even if it means to introduce any additional AI models within Photo AI.

      i don't use any of their products for a reason, it's just too overpriced and gimmicky for what it can actually offer, you can do a better job of upscaling, noise removal, and editing using other tools if you're a bit savvy, their market is just people that don't know better and can easily fall for the comparison images they show, i'll give them one thing, topaz remask 5 was actually useful when they had a non AI version.

    With Topaz Photo AI version 2.4.0 and Gigapixel AI version 7.0.3 I got almost identical results. However I noticed that they both benefitted from using the GPU (Apple M1 Pro) for processing compared to using the CPU. It was about 20 times faster with the GPU.

      I compared Photo Ai and Gigapixel to see if there were any differences between the results. In the video, I mentioned that if you need a product that can denoise, sharpen, and upscale, then Photo Ai would be the better choice. However, if your goal is only to upscale, then you don’t need Photo Ai. Personally, I need the ability to denoise, sharpen, fix focus issues, and upscale, so I would choose Photo Ai.”

    I actually like the older version before GigaPixel 7 better. I liked the results from the HQ setting, which they got rid of in 7. I have both GigaPixel and PhotoAI and I've had mixed results with PhotoAI. For some reason when upscaling HQ photos in PhotoAI it leaves weird blothes on the skin. It's like it tries smoothing out the overall appearance of skin but then for some reason leaves spots alone so you get a nice smooth even area with a blotchy noisy circle in it.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Upscaling is inherently tied to enhancement. When an image is processed through Photoshop and sent to Photo Ai or Gigapixel Ai, it undergoes both upscaling and enhancement before being returned to the top layer. The bottom layer, while not the original file, is an upscaled version. The exact changes to the bottom layer are unclear, but it’s upscaled without enhancement.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      During the video, I relied on my visual judgment instead of using the difference mode. However, I recently conducted a test on a different image using the same settings for both Gigapixel Ai and Photo Ai across four ai models (Standard V2, High Fidelity V2, Low Resolution and Graphics-Art/CG). I layered the images in Photoshop and applied the Difference Blend mode for comparison. The result proved: all AI models produced identical outcomes. This was true even when comparing the Graphics model from Photo Ai to the Art/CG model from Gigapixel Ai.
      Thanks for mentioning the difference mode. I didn't think to try the difference mode when I was making the video...

    So, my clients constantly send me screenshots (and sometimes a screenshot of a screenshot!) because they do not have the originals and I always tell them these are really not good for printing but they do it anyway. I have spent a lot of time in PS/LR to regain clarity and do enlargements. I design funeral programs, thus my turnaround time is very quick. I recently purchased both Photo AI & Gigapixel, I'm within my 30-days to return. I have finally had time to do a comparison and they look the same. This video was very helpful because I have been teetering on which to return, I think I'll keep Photo AI.

    Why doesn't PHOTO IA let me choose the various settings for upscaling if I use it as a plugin in Photoshop? It only lets me do it if I use it as a separate program outside of Photoshop.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It appears that you're using the Filter menu in Photoshop, which only allows for enhancement, not upscaling. To upscale, you'll need to navigate through the Photoshop Menu using the following path: File > Automate > Topaz Photo Ai. This process was demonstrated in the video, so you may find it helpful to revisit that section for a clearer understanding.

      @@rolfmeier8469 Photo AI can‘t deal with the grain structures to my opinion. Maybe it is trained for digital noise? I‘m not a technical expert for the algorithms used, but the outcome for film negatives is far worse than standard solutions, e.g. Neat Image.

      @JMSteger 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ytuberization Personally I have had good luck using Photo AI with slide film scans made by a Nikon 5000 ED scanner and VueScan software. My slide scans are at 4000 dpi and about 115 mb. Unfortunately, you cannot use the Lightroom Enhanced Noise Reduction feature on the DNGs created by VueScan, so Photo AI is especially helpful with noise reduction, face enhancement and sharpening, I really have not had a need to upscale my slide scans at this point.

    I am very surprised at the times for 4 time's increase. I have a 3080 ti and 13 th gen l7 and with the previous version of gigapixal it takes circa 5 secs to process and return processed image back to LR. This is in plugin with LR 6.14. The annoying issue is gigapixal closes evertime its completes it work. Gigapixal prog has to relaunch when it is used again from LR. Takes 4 secs to launch again which is time wasted. Luminair Neo stays live as a plug in. So its instantaneous when going from LR to Neo as a plug in. 30 plus secs is far too long to be a usable piece of software / hardware .

    I use gigapixel AI but when I was enlarged a 600x800 px photo to 4500 px in height the image became blurry with every mode I tried. The image I used was good quality but it had low resolution. I think the photo you used with the girl it was very large and you made it small to show us how good gigapixel AI enlarged it. It has better results than photoshop but a small
    size image can't become so sharp with so much enlargement. It does a good job and it removes noise very well but it can't do miracles.

    Unfortunately, the installer for Gigapixel 7 doesn't work in Windows 10. In Photo AI, it does not seem to be possible to scale an image to an exact size (eg 464mm x 580mm at 360dpi) - only 2x, 4x, 6x. At least that has been my experience with these products so far. I'm disappointed, and there doesn't seem to be any way to obtain a refund.

    As someone who has just downloaded Gigapixel 7 I wish I had seen this video before making the purchase. It seems that there is no difference between the two. As you so ably demonstrate, both has the requisite enhancements and produce the same end product.. So, a wasted purchase as Photo Ai is quicker to both render and save. I feel slightly cheated and that Topaz are just out to make a few extra bucks by making gullible people like me think they are getting a better product to do the job when in fact, they are not. Both products must be using the same software coding. It wouldn’t make sense for a software company to use different versions of their software . The choice volis down to cost of each product.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree about the software coding.
      Both Gigapixel AI and Photo AI are great products, but you don't need to own both of them. It depends on your needs. Gigapixel AI can upscale and enhance your images, and it can also do some minor sharpening and deblurring. However, if you want to fix more severe focus issues, sharpen, or remove noise, Photo AI can do that better, plus upscale and enhance your images. So, if you want a comprehensive solution, Photo AI is the best option for you.
