As a german native, I am still blown away by Meryl Streeps performance in Sophie's Choice. She is an american and speaks absolutely PERFECT german with (!) an polish accent - that alone makes her the master of phonetic language. I would have never believed that this could be possible, if I hadn't heard it with my own ears. I would have also named Silkwood as her second best performance, because of her astonishing range of emotions.
Yeah, I don't know how she did that. An astonishing accomplishment, really. I feel like if I were to tackle that role, I would just learn German in a German accent and hope that the audience didn't notice lol.

Quite right - an actor's voice is their most important tool - even more important than looks. You can tell a good actor mainly by the way they are in command of that tool. You would never have Meryl Streep with a "wandering accent" in any of her movies - unlike two Robin Hood actors I would not mention by name right now. I can't wait to see her version of Aunt March in Little Women....
@@christianealshut1123 Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was the best he wanted to do an accent the director asked him not too and Robin Hood is nt real anyway so who cares if he is real nobody will ever know what he sounded like Russell did ok but I prefer the 91 version I love the Bryan Adams song
I always feel like Meryl Streep disappears every time she plays one character- She becomes the character she plays totally that I forget it's Meryl Streep. The best actress ever! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
in Sophie's Choice, she speaks German like a German, pleading for the life of her kid with a heartless Nazi camp guard. Streep actually doesnt know the language! She memorized and animiated the language and the emotions to an unnatural perfection. If that is not talent, nothing is
@@christinemusselman5499 Only Irene Papas did that too, but of course she was the Godess Athena herself, not a lowly human like us. view her film, "Erindira" here on TH-cam. her Andalucian Spanish is phenomenal. And like Streep, she memorizes the whole thing without knowing Spanish! Streep and Papas were geniuses
She is untouchable in every role. But, she seems so approachable and funny and friendly personally. No DIVA here...yet a SUPERSTAR nonetheless. I adore her. She makes my heart soar with her craft.
There will never be such a thing as Meryl Streep Top Ten Performances, since her crafting and artistry is endless. She's the actual epiphany of the thespian abilities & aptitudes. ¡What a glorious performer!
Sophie in Sophie's choice is recognized as the best female acting of all-time... and one of the top 3 best acting for male and female, of course it deserved an Oscar, and she deserves more!
I loved it when she won the Emmy for "Angels in America." "I have days where I myself think I'm overrated," she said, "but not today!" It was such a great moment...the audience just howled. I did too! She's a magnificent force of nature and she goes out of her way to make the other actors feel "at ease" on the set. She's all heart...and a great inspiration to me.
She was legend.....until her unfortunate behavior wherein she turned an awards ceremony into a platform to spew forth her political views (with tears...good grief) on an unsuspecting audience. Now, she's just another high-paid Hollywierd pretender. Doesn't matter which side she voted for, it was wrong place wrong time for that shit. You'd think they would learn from Wanda Stanks (sorry, I mean 'Sykes') faux pas, but no, they continue to spout off and send forth their ear pollution. Hollyweirds have a long history of using their "status" and "stardom" as a vehicle to regurgitate their political views on everybody because everybody should believe exactly as they do, or there's something wrong with you.
You can tell she's one of the few thespians who's NOT in show business for fame or money. She truly loves her career. Meryl Streep is such a phenomenal actress that Hollywood would lose its shape and appeal without her. It just wouldn't be Hollywood.
Though she loves her career and she is a phenomenal actress saying she doesn't do it for the money is a little bogus. We all do our jobs for money. That's why we do them. Just because she loves what she does doesn't mean she doesn't do it for a paycheck. I also don't think an actor/actress doing their job for the money is in any way a bad thing. It's a job. Now if she refused paychecks maybe I would agree, but as far as I know she hasn't done that. Nor would I ever expect her to.
Nathan Huff But she's the kind of person that would never do anything just for money. That's the point. Do you ever see her in commercials or ad campaigns? Didn't think so.
I agree that "Sophie's choice" was her very best performance. The image of her looking through the window narrating her story is haunting me, seriously. I also believe that "The bridges of Madison Country" should be higher on your list. In the end, I will just cry my eyes out, it's so emotional. Generally it's very difficult to choose, she is great in every role, she can play anything or anyone. And she has that amazing capability to make the people who watch her feel whatever she wants. That's so rare, and that's why Meryl Streep is one and to me the greatest living actress at least of her time, if not more.
I have always felt that “Bridges...” was one of her greatest performances and yet it is so often overlooked...when she is in the truck, in town, with her husband...it is definitely one of the most gut wrenching moments on film as far as I’m concerned.
True.. Have watched 'Bridges of Madison County' atleast twice and cried both times, about the last scene when she is herself on the crossroads, both literally and emotionally...
Brilliant! Just amazing in every role. I had the great pleasure of seeing her perform Puck in MidSummer Night's Dream on our English high school class field trip, I'm going to say 1977, while she was attending Yale Repertory. Our whole class was mesmerized and knew THIS was the way you performed Puck. How lucky we were to see her perform before she was even known or had done one single movie.
Meryl Streep has, and is STILL building a body of work that is unrivaled by any other actor. No argument with the ten performances noted here, but what about her performances in Ironweed, Music of the Heart, Death Becomes Her, One True Thing, The River Wild, The Manchurian Candidate, August: Osage County, Angels in America, and everything else? Her work is so vast and so rich in yield that the list could have been easily doubled. Streep lives in her own galaxy.
+Larry Mitchell The River Wild is one of my favorites and I was sad not to see it on the list. . I really liked Kevin Bacon in it too. He plays a good creep in this film.
+Larry Mitchell Yup! The above list alone is incredible but when one then considers what's been left out, all of those you mention, especially 'August:Osage County, a knockout performance, the extent of Meryl Streep's acting talent and range of skills is staggering! There's no one like her.
I was glad to see someone else mention August: Osage County. That's one I was hoping to see on the list, especially that one, actually. It was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that "Top 10 Meryl Streep Performances" was the next video coming up. I think it's an excellent film, and an underappreciated one as well! It shows how messed up family life can be and how quickly things can change. Meryl Streep was fantastic as always, as well as the supporting cast. Not too many unknowns or newcomers in this project at all. Mostly well established actors who likely read this script and signed on because they recognized what an outstanding film could be made, and they wanted to be a part of it! (If I were guessing anyway, lol) More people should check out this one and be happy they did! It's moving in several different ways, and I love it for it's rawness and honesty about subjects that aren't easy to address. Not the average, easily predictable plot or outcome, and that's a main quality I look for now, especially since I've gotten older and have seen the same old thing done, re-peat-ed-ly, and in the same old way. That's too easy...and boring, to boot! Life is messy! Situations in life are messy...and uncomfortable, unforeseeable, embarrassing, etc. Not to mention, completely uncontrollable, and that's the case more often than you'd like to think! There's not always a perfect, happy ending to every story! Tell me THOSE KINDS of stories! The unvarnished truth of relationships and families...with believable dialogue and reactions. Some people only like the lighter side of things in a movie, and say they want a diversion from the stress in their own lives. Sometimes I think the same effect can be achieved by watching and being thankful that your life is in better shape, by comparison at least, than the characters' lives are in the film you're watching. A change in perspective can be more powerful and more memorable than you might think. I'll stop raving about it now, lol, even though I was obviously highly impressed. I'm not sure what I was expecting, since I knew no background info prior to watching...but, it was definitely well worth the time spent!
As an Australian, her role as Lindy in "A cry in the dark/Evil Angels" was beyond anything I have ever seen, Her Aussie accent was better then mine. The way she portrayed Lindy was Incredible and I walked away from that movie feeling like I knew Lindy for the very first time
She is extraordinary. I think her greatest performance was in Sophie's Choice. Not because she has been a lesser actor afterward, but because this role was so difficult and emotionally charged. I had read the novel before I saw the film. Contrary to what we usually think, the movie was better than the book because of Meryl Streep. She gave the Sophie character personality and depth that were not int he novel. She created Sophie. What a magnificent actress!!
Daniel Day-Lewis. I love Meryl as well, but damn , Daniel is fantastic , he delivered the best acting performances of all time, just watch My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood , Gangs of New York, Lincoln and In The Name Of The Father. Impecabile!
She’s one of the greatest but many other great actresses compete with her ( Katharine Hepburn - Ingrid Bergman - Bette Davis - Elizabeth Taylor - Jodie Foster - Judi Dench - Susan Sarandon - Helen Mirren - Kate Winslet - Kathy Bates - Julianne Moore - Emma Thompson - Cate Blanchett ... etc. )
Impossible to choose her best performance. Every single performance is Oscar worthy! She is my favorite actress and is, in my opinion, the very best actress who ever appeared on film.
She's so amazing. Her performances are mind blowing. She;s such a transcendental actress. Watching her best performances gives me the chills. I can't believe she didn't win the Oscar for Julie & Julia. That is mind blowing. I saw The Blind Side and I don't believe Sandra's performance was nearly as Oscar worthy. I'd like to believe that Meryl gets more fulfillment from the work itself and from the amazing experiences that she gives to all her fans with her performances than any accolades she's won.
I'm probably overstating, but few of the female winners over the last 15 years won the Academy Award fair and square. C'mon... Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, Sandra Bullock (the latter I can't believe 'till this very day).
Meryl Streep‘s performances are always staggeringly spot on and I am amazed with each of them. Her portrayal of Sophie in Sophie‘s Choice is hypnotizing and numbing. A role of a millennium, exquisitely brought to life buy a master of her craft. I think it’s time for me to watch Sophie‘s Choice yet again.
She is exemplary! Married to the same man for years, accomplished mother, accomplished actress, with great humility! what more can I say except that she is the best of the best! Bravo Meryl for the pleasure you have given us all on screen by interpreting all these roles to perfection! Thank you from France ! WE LOVE YOU !!!
I don't think anyone can truly point down any one role she has played that is one better than the other. Meryl Streep is the most talented and most greatest actress of ALL TIME. This woman goes beyond all the other Hollywood Legends before her.
@@cece8095It's called having an opinion. It's all right for a person to express their opinion, even if it differs from yours. A lot of people don't seem to understand that these days.
There is one word that completely describes Meryl Streep's acting abilities---Flawless. People will continue to tease and make jokes about it, but the evidence of her brilliance is on the screen for all to see.
Meryl Streep is definitely an amazing and film-defining actress. The only alteration I'd put out upon this Top 10 List of her best performances is to put her frightening and above-adequate portrayal of widow and pill-addict Violet in "August: Osage County" in at LEAST the Honorable Mentions category. Her performance in that film always gives me chills and makes my jaw drop every time. Meryl will always be an actress that I look to while attempting to be diverse in the acting arts, myself. She will forever be one of the most amazing artists in the industry.
It's not just Meryl Streep's performances that I love and adore, it's also the woman, she is a human being of the highest caliber. She is one person I would love to meet in my lifetime. Not just to gush over her talent, but to also have a wonderful conversation with her. She is the kind of person that anyone would want to meet. And btw, another one of her amazing roles that was missed on the countdown was of her performance as Kate in "One True Thing" in which she was also nominated.
bridges of Madison county... you gotta watch it at least once before you die. Meryl is the epitome of acting. in this particular role, she'll make any wife have a visceral reaction. a film you can't afford not to see
lisa Fisher I agree. I lost count as to how many times I have seen it. Every time I see the ending when she is at the red light with her husband and Richard is still sitting there waiting for her, and Francesca has her hand on the door handle I start screaming at the TV, go go go, even though I know damn right well that she's not going anywhere. That is my favorite scene in the whole movie. I cry every time that scene comes on. Excellent movie
thesingngchubbs97 oapqueen88 I cry everytime too! This movie is wonderful. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood interpret one of their best roles in my opinion! This film makes me cry every time. An amazing movie !!!!
She is truly a beautiful classy lady and I've never been disappointed in any of her movies. Always enjoyed all her movies truly an amazing amazing actress and I hope she keeps winning more and more Oscars too 👍👍👍👍

My favourite alive actress! I love you, Meryl Streep!
Ms. Streep has been my favorite since i first saw her in "Holocaust", that 1978 tv mini-series. Back in those days, I knew this lady would make it big, told all my friends about her.... time has proven that I was so right. Gosh, it is one big assignment rounding up a top ten of her greatest performances... I mean, there is no "half baked" acting here, everything she does is outstanding. Totally agree, by now she should have more than three Oscars. God bless you, Meryl! This is from your biggest fan in Panama, Latin America.
The most nominated actress or actor in Oscar history was cheated out of a best actress award when Sandra Bullock won for her ridiculous role in The Blindside. It was jealousy of Streep and that fact that academy voters just couldn't stand for her to win again and again despite it was one of the best performances of the decade. A bad southern accent and wig was all that Sandra had going for her, and overlooking Streep's Julia Child tour De force for that is about as bad as it gets.
Way back in 1981, when I saw her in "the French Lieutenant's Woman" I was hooked on Meryl. Even then, it was clear the caliber of her acting ability. She Is The Master! Throughout my life people have always told me I resemble her...the utmost compliment!
Mathias Garay well yes... even if I dont remember that film. Miranda though was super Iconic. It was Meryl’s best ever. Because it was Art, but also very Commericial. I play that movie in the lobby of a language school in Asia, if I want to make sure nobody lives the building. All the White Teachers freeze in the Lobby. If I want to know if a new teacher is gay, I play that movie by the time they are about to leave. They stick around until the movie is over. The straight guys watch it for a few minutes laughs too much and decides its gay. But would ask, what’s the tittle of this movie.
+sashaqueenie Deanna Dungan (the woman from Broadway) shamed Meryl Streep. I saw the play. Dungan was phenomenal. Streep was a little over-the-top in my opinion. I think Dungan interpreted the character better. Much more likable and vulnerable. The play was outstanding. The movie was a little meh...
Sophie´s choice, the best one. The scene of her "choice" is the most dramatical and cruel scene in the international cinema. Excellent performance of this excellent actress.
Sophie's Choice is the best example of her brilliance. Watch when she speaks of her father. You can see the pain of her lies as she tells them. The layers of her acting are remarkable. She is unique and the very best actor around. All glory is deserved. Awesome in Adaptation and many others. We will not see such brilliance again. Savor it. That she seems like a great person, dazzles us more. The best ever.
Has DDL done 10 movies yet? Either way, it's hard to range them all since he don't have Alot like DeNiro, Nicholson, and etc. and we all know There Will Be Blood would be number 1
jokesterr119 He made exactly 20 movies. My personal top 10 would be: 10 - Room with a View 9 - The Age of Innocence 8 - The Fighter 7 - The Last of the Mohicans 6 - The Unbearable Lightness of Being 5 - In The Name of the Father 4 - My Left Foot 3 - Gangs of New York 2 - Lincoln 1 - There Will be Blood
Yea but a good amount of those 20 movies is where he played a very small part. And again, since his work isn't as extensive and huge like DeNiro, Brando, Nicholson, and Pacino, you can't do much. It's like doing a Top 10 James Dean performance, you can't do it. And since its all personal preference anyway, the list wouldn't be as interesting since we know There Will Be Blood, My Left Foot, and Gangs will be in the top 3 anyway with Plainview being number 1
In my life, I have watched countless movies with great actors in them, including the knighted actors of Britain; Meryl Streep is right at the top. I consider her to be a genius. Thanks for an excellent upload.
With awards definitely with fane tho definitely not, she stars in drama most people watch action thrillers kinda stuff, also is she really great like it seems like she is but then again I don't feel like she is so plz recommend me one of h doesn't matter I can see this video
Out of Africa..you can wake me up in the middle of the night...to watch this movie..again and again and again..the music, the settings.the delivery.. Everything! Love it!
A movie with her in it is bound to be a great one ! I have seen very few movies with her but have been moved each time with her outstanding performances !
it never ceases to amaze me that a lady such as Meryl Streep can take such roles as She-Devil and The Post and still be so good. a class act in every way
She is utterly brilliant. I mean she can speak 5 languages fluently, and 3 others passibly. That says a ton about an actor. And Sophie’s Choice is truly her best and always will be.
rockah12 you dont watch the movie for the plot, you watch it because of the songs.. if you dont like Abba, you got no reason to watch it ;) but i love abba, so mamma mia is my summer movie \o/
Yes, her haunting role in "The French lieutenant's Woman" as both Anna and Sarah was at the top of her game and I was totally mesmerized by it. When I first saw this movie, I was not at all familiar with Meryl Streep, but when I first saw her in this particular role, I don't think that I had ever seen acting of this calibur ever before ( and I mean ever ! ) and after that I never looked back. Although Meryl has commented that she wasn't entirely happy with her portrayal in this film, I completely disagree. I found her acting in this movie to be at the top of her game and just astounding ( when you think about how she was able to pull off portraying two different women at once, and all in the same movie, and pulling it off spectacularly ) and it is when I first saw her in this movie, that I subsequently fell in love with her acting and I became a lifelong fan of hers, and I have been ever since. I don't think that there is a role that Meryl Streep hasn't been in that I haven't loved her in, but her role in the "French Lieutenant's Woman" is something quite special that I will never forget. It really touched me like no other and still haunts me to this day. Her role in this movie was, and still is in my opinion, one of the best of her career and just simply spectacular . The entire movie and storyline is also one of my all time favourites. Meryl Streep is quite simply the best of the best.......an amazing actress that I don't think that we will ever see the likes of again.
Streep is by far the most generous actor in the business. In DOUBT (2008), as great as she is, she allows Amy Adams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and most especially Viola Davis, to upstage her when she deems it necessary, and the result is sheer artistry.
I saw "Julia and Julia" (sic) with my late mother -in -law. She loved it but died before I could get her the DVD for Christmas. Wonderful woman, Meryl Streep, she is of the few who have conquered Hollywood and remained intact with zero gossips and Scandal. I loved it when she laughed at all of her Haters for "yet another Oscar, that I do not deserve." Madame, you EARNED all of you Oscars and nominations and I worship you as a GODDESS. Truck on Lady and keep conquering until 100 years of age and counting.
What can one really say? She proves herself over and over as a genial chameleon. She captures you, she moves you, she renders you awestruck. I could go on indefinitely here...so I will give my opinion of which performance I believe to be her finest - or ONE of her finest: The Iron Lady. As I sat watching the first moments of the film, I was struck not by Meryl Streep, but by Margaret Thacher. She WAS Margaret Thacher - complete, mesmerizing, achingly human and unnervingly powerful. I was witness to all her facets. I rose in her triumphs, marveled at her brazen courage and I grieved in the despair of her decline. It was - in my life's experiences of film watching - THE finest performance I have seen, to date. (I felt nearly the same for Daniel Day-Lewis's "Lincoln")...and we grew up not far from one another :-)
I justa can't stand watching "Sophie's choice". I don't see Meryl Streep , i see one mother in front of a choice beyond every human being. That's the perfection of an actor !
Watching the clip of Streep's performance in Sophie's Choice brought tears to my eyes once again. I remember to this day how I felt sitting in the theater watching her on screen... my heart breaking for her. This is by far one of the finest performances on film EVER.

There are only two times I ever cried: at my son's birth and watching Sophie's Choice.
Jason Luong #fucktrump
Kids make one cry in a good way.Happy and proud.
NonyaBusiness! Lolol... Lol 😂😀😀😀😀😀
He's just jealous of her.
@@osubucknut100 GFYourself, you heathen.
The truth is nobody can do what Meryl Streep does. She is BRILLIANT
I love the Prada reference lol
nailed it!
Sophie in Sophie's choice is recognized as the best female acting of all-time... and one of the top 3 best acting for male and female, of course it deserved an Oscar, and she deserves more!
I think it's the best acting ever recorded on screen
whats number 1?
@@thesunwillcomeout2morrowI know this is a year old comment, but the best performance ever has to be Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot
She is the greatest. Her range of emotion is amazing.
Most amazing actress ever. These young starlets should take note
They don't have her gift. They can take notes but they will never measure up.
she is a living legend for film in our time.
Not only our time.
Moron
I couldn't agree with you more. She's a phenomenal actress.
No, you.
Sophie's choice was just amazing.... So much emotion ... Meryl Streep is just divine
You can tell she's one of the few thespians who's NOT in show business for fame or money. She truly loves her career. Meryl Streep is such a phenomenal actress that Hollywood would lose its shape and appeal without her. It just wouldn't be Hollywood.
*not in show business for fame or money
Yes, that's what I meant lol - thank you! =D
CaterinaEvClub She is the best of all times
I have always felt that “Bridges...” was one of her greatest performances and yet it is so often overlooked...when she is in the truck, in town, with her husband...it is definitely one of the most gut wrenching moments on film as far as I’m concerned.
Me too, but I was sad to see Donna as only an honorable mention
Cynthia B lo
True.. Have watched 'Bridges of Madison County' atleast twice and cried both times, about the last scene when she is herself on the crossroads, both literally and emotionally...
Best actor forever. She embodies every character she portrays; dramatic through comedic.
+Breeda Kennedy - So true! She was endowed with a gift that is beyond belief.
The way she portrayed Lindy was Incredible and I walked away from that movie feeling like I knew Lindy for the very first time
Darryn Wilson Agreed! I found this movie exceptional.
Lindy Chamberlain was originally from New Zealand. Agreed, her acting was superb.
Agree.
What has she been nominated for like 500 academy awards? If she's not the greatest actor of either gender of all time, I don't know who is.
Daniel Day-Lewis. I love Meryl as well, but damn , Daniel is fantastic , he delivered the best acting performances of all time, just watch My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood , Gangs of New York, Lincoln and In The Name Of The Father. Impecabile!
@@dragos2555 he is great but no one can match Meryl Streep
Dragoș Gheorghe Daniel Day Lewis is not a great actor because he’s not versatile and is only marvelous in certain roles!
She’s one of the greatest but many other great actresses compete with her ( Katharine Hepburn - Ingrid Bergman - Bette Davis - Elizabeth Taylor - Jodie Foster - Judi Dench - Susan Sarandon - Helen Mirren - Kate Winslet - Kathy Bates - Julianne Moore - Emma Thompson - Cate Blanchett ... etc. )
@@muhanadmuhanad7019 No.
Impossible to choose her best performance. Every single performance is Oscar worthy! She is my favorite actress and is, in my opinion, the very best actress who ever appeared on film.
Meryl Streep has to win an oscar for more oscar nominations, and the best performances in every single movie... I can't choose a movie
me, too.
August osage County
Hands down one of the greatest actresses of all time.
I agree, she should've won the Oscar Best Actress in Julie & Julia
Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actresses of all time, ALL TIME.
I loved her in the Devil Wears Prada. Her performance there gives me reason to be ruthless in the work force while looking good.
Stanley Tucci Slays me in that movie his dialogue is always gold
My favourite Meryl Streep movie
Not to mention, if you watch the bloopers, the woman is STILL in character! Amazing.
***** most people probably just read the first sentence
I don't think anyone can truly point down any one role she has played that is one better than the other. Meryl Streep is the most talented and most greatest actress of ALL TIME. This woman goes beyond all the other Hollywood Legends before her.
I highly disagree with that, there are others. But she is great don’t mistake that. But she’s not the only one. To say that is absurd.
@@cece8095It's called having an opinion. It's all right for a person to express their opinion, even if it differs from yours. A lot of people don't seem to understand that these days.
There is one word that completely describes Meryl Streep's acting abilities---Flawless. People will continue to tease and make jokes about it, but the evidence of her brilliance is on the screen for all to see.
she truly is the best of the best of this generation of stars.
Well, I can't argue that since they're not exactly memorable.
This was published before that movie came out. However, I utterly agree with you on that. She is an extraordinary talent.
Her role in August: Osage County was the most difficult and challenging of the year, no Oscar win though.
Yeah it was surprising that she didn't win anything for Osage County.
@@thesingngchubbs97oapqueen85 That scene is just everything. It just touches deep into my soul.
Yes, her hand on the car door handle was intense.
Hello @@terribrooks9041
She is truly a beautiful classy lady and I've never been disappointed in any of her movies. Always enjoyed all her movies truly an amazing amazing actress and I hope she keeps winning more and more Oscars too 👍👍👍👍
My favourite alive actress! I love you, Meryl Streep!
Matheus G. S. I love her too so much. She’s the best ever!
Honestly ever role she plays is Oscar worthy. I can't think of I single thing she's done where her acting hasn't been spot on!
All needed to be said about Meryl Streep - LEGEND
The most versatile actress. Iconic actress with iconic roles.
One of the most versatile actress in Hollywood ever. Give her any role she'll never dissapoint.
She is what I want to be when I grow up. :)
A blond Jewish woman?
Meryl Streep isn't even Jewish...
***** An accomplished, respected, loved, versatile, Oscar winning, well-rounded, and AMAZING actor. And, she not Jewish...
Aren't you all grown up yet?
TheOWLCITYADDICT And you sir, are the reason I keep on going. :)
A terrific, talented actress dripping with class!
She's pretty much the greatest actor, dead or living, ever!
Yeah, I still cant Believe that Bullock won the Oscar over Meryl Streep or Gabourey in that dumb movie The Blind Side.
Sandra Bollock (sp?) never deserved that Oscar. She was,
at best, mediocre. She is charming but not that great of an actress.
Sandra Bullock doesn’t give standing ovations to child rapists
Way back in 1981, when I saw her in "the French Lieutenant's Woman" I was hooked on Meryl. Even then, it was clear the caliber of her acting ability. She Is The Master! Throughout my life people have always told me I resemble her...the utmost compliment!
Madeline Ashton - Death Becomes Her
Frank Paul Lomas such a good movie!!! I’ve seen is so many times and laugh just as hard!
My fav movie of hers 💕
Miranda Priestley was the best and deserved an OSCAR.
Mad Dawn what class she has in this movie. She is sublime
Helen Mirren In the Queen deserved to win too
Mathias Garay well yes... even if I dont remember that film.
I agree
Too bad August: Osage County was not mentioned.
I love that performance a lot.
***** Pray tell, where was it mentioned in this video?
sashaqueenie #2 right below Sophia's Choice
+sashaqueenie Deanna Dungan (the woman from Broadway) shamed Meryl Streep. I saw the play. Dungan was phenomenal. Streep was a little over-the-top in my opinion. I think Dungan interpreted the character better. Much more likable and vulnerable. The play was outstanding. The movie was a little meh...
+sashaqueenie I will forever remember Julia Roberts roaring "I RUN THINGS NOAW!!!!"
Yes!!! She did such a good job as Violet
Sophie´s choice, the best one. The scene of her "choice" is the most dramatical and cruel scene in the international cinema. Excellent performance of this excellent actress.
She was so good as the nun. Superb actress indeed.
I love Meryl Streep. Thanks for this list!
The best ever.
do a list of Daniel-Day Lewis, Jack Nicholson and Amy Adams best perforances
DeaditeWheatley didnt know that thanks for telling me
DeaditeWheatley yeah i was just looking for daniel day leiws top 10 couldnt find it lol
Has DDL done 10 movies yet? Either way, it's hard to range them all since he don't have Alot like DeNiro, Nicholson, and etc. and we all know There Will Be Blood would be number 1
jokesterr119 He made exactly 20 movies. My personal top 10 would be:
10 - Room with a View
9 - The Age of Innocence
8 - The Fighter
7 - The Last of the Mohicans
6 - The Unbearable Lightness of Being
5 - In The Name of the Father
4 - My Left Foot
3 - Gangs of New York
2 - Lincoln
1 - There Will be Blood
Thanks for an excellent upload.
there was an amazing performance playing Rene Zellwegers mom and dying of cancer....cried for days...
Thank you Meryl for an inspiring speech last night at the GGA
Can't believe I'm this early haha, but Meryl Streep has to be one of my favorite actresses ever.
She is truly something very special
Her uncanny ability to nail every accent is mesmerizing and unrivalled. Each and every one of her performances is a masterclass.
Not overrated Mr.Trump
A non-politician who suddenly gets elected president is allowed to call others overrated?
Trump is overrated...😅
He is just lealous.
With awards definitely with fane tho definitely not, she stars in drama most people watch action thrillers kinda stuff, also is she really great like it seems like she is but then again I don't feel like she is so plz recommend me one of h doesn't matter I can see this video
He's overrated - as a human.
she's the iconic and legendary Meryl streep!
"She's always been more than just a pretty face." Well yes...but her face IS very pretty
she is as ugly as a shithouse rat.
James Langley to each his own

My god, this woman has such a classic, lovely face! The fact that she is actually a talented actress makes her awesome.
Out of Africa..you can wake me up in the middle of the night...to watch this movie..again and again and again..the music, the settings.the delivery.. Everything! Love it!
I love "the French Lieutenant's Woman". The roles were demanding and different and she was perfection.
She's my favorite actress.
Larissa de Abreu mine too ❤️ she’s excellent!
Sophie's Choice....not sure another movie ever touched me that way....only saw it once....still lingers...
Watch La Vie En Rose then.
Marion Coutillard is phenomenal there.
A movie with her in it is bound to be a great one ! I have seen very few movies with her but have been moved each time with her outstanding performances !
Meryl Streep is supreme. Her portrayals are outstanding.
She was amazing in Mamma Mia! She performed the songs amazingly and her acting was as usual second to none
I adore her; every role she takes is perfect
Best actress ever
it never ceases to amaze me that a lady such as Meryl Streep can take such roles as She-Devil and The Post and still be so good. a class act in every way
nobody has made me cry more than this godess
She is utterly brilliant. I mean she can speak 5 languages fluently, and 3 others passibly. That says a ton about an actor. And Sophie’s Choice is truly her best and always will be.
You should've just started the video with "DISCLAIMER: All the performances on this countdown got Streep Oscar nominations."
Even Mama Mia?
I mean, don't get me wrong, she's damn good in it, but the movie is just otherwise kinda blah
rockah12 you dont watch the movie for the plot, you watch it because of the songs.. if you dont like Abba, you got no reason to watch it ;) but i love abba, so mamma mia is my summer movie \o/
rockah12 Meryl Streep did NOT receive an Oscar nomination for Mamma Mia.
How could they have left off "The French Lieutenant's Woman"? Not even a mention?
+Michael Kagan And what about"Plenty" -- probably one of my favorite Merle Streep movies.
+Michael Kagan and 'Ironweeds? One of my all time favorites, with unforgettable "He's me pal" !
+Cassia Schwager Anyway, it's kind of strange that they have "MAMA MIA" in the honorable mentions .. but not "The French Lieutenants Woman" ..
I love that movie.
She was terrific in "the Iron Lady". And her performance in "Julie and Julia" brightens my day every time I watch it. I just adore her.
I used to watch Julie and Julia all the time when it came out. That movie brightened my day too.
Streep is around 5'5" and Julia was over 6' tall, but she manages to convey Julia's stature
She’s magnificent in whatever role she’s in. I was utterly overwhelmed by her acting in Sophie’s Choice.
Sophie's Choice gives me shivers it so amazing.
The greatest actress to ever walk the planet!
Finest actress that ever lived. She can play anything. She is mesmerizing in any part she plays.
she is so incredibly, unceasingly amazing.
Watching the clip of Streep's performance in Sophie's Choice brought tears to my eyes once again. I remember to this day how I felt sitting in the theater watching her on screen... my heart breaking for her. This is by far one of the finest performances on film EVER.
How did she get perfectly the accents / nuances of each characters she had ever played! Thats too great and awesome
She made history with her acting in Sohie's choice! Number one female performance!
