It's lines like those that makes me wish I was still working! Well, not really but I can remember situations from when I was working that I could have used Miranda stingers.
I shadowed a senior doctor who is just like Miranda and the first few months was very stressful but then I realized mistakes can be deadly in our field so I learned from them. Me and my co-interns just had to reach his almost perfect standards and it was honestly the best thing I've experienced.
Did the doctor also request from you to find yet unpublished Harry Potter book for his/her children or order you to get his/her steak in 15 minutes from a restaurant that has not been opened yet? These have nothing to do with the magazine's ongoing work. Trying to reach for perfection and expecting this from assistants in fields of the "job" is understandable, but beyond this is clearly mobbing and abuse. We should not be modern slaves for anybody. Miranda regards her assistants as her personal slaves and abuses them for her personal life.
I love the fact that the author of the book tried to write Andy as the hero and Miranda as the villain, but we collectively as a society decided Andy’s friends were the villains, Andy sucked and Miranda IS the main character.
When I was younger and the film was just released I hated Miranda and Andy for neglecting her friends. But I watched the film again and I realised the villain was not Miranda, she was the one teaching Andy the ins and outs of the industry. Andy's friends said she changed, what they didn't realise is that Andy was actually 'growing, learning and adapting' to a new atmosphere. Her friends and BF instead of supporting her were actually holding her growth, which put Andy into crossroads of a potential career path. People say Andy working atmosphere was toxic, I disagree, if you're working with the very best they have a set of standards that each must be expected, Andy was no exception. Miranda knew Andy had great potential thus she tested her out and proved she had what it takes. I realised her Friends and BF were the real Toxic ones. They never really wanted her to grow.
I don't necessarily think Andy sucked. She was just young and in an industry she didn't understand. What I like about her was the moment she decided to stop playing the victim and decided to learn about the fashion world for the sake of her job. She made mistakes, but I also like that at the end she decided she had sold her soul to the industry and enough was enough. Her biggest flaw is going back to her toxic ex-boyfriend. Miranda was absurd, but I seriously love her.
@@jaydave1246 I think both sides are no villains. The film depicted Andy's friend as shallow. But I think there's more than that. Andy started as serious journalist in college. Of course her friends knew her and might expect Andy to stay the same path, but surprised that Andy took a job in fashion magazine. At first, they accepted it, but they also saw Andy drowning in her job and losing her old self and they didn't like to see her losing herself. Sure, Andy was become better at her job, but it didn't mean it's the career she wanted. So, at the end, Andy quit, find a new job that suit herself but still grateful of the experience with Miranda. It's the middle way. But yeah, tbh, her friends were overreacting in the movie.
Andy's friends said she “changed” but in actuality Andy was growing, learning and adapting to a new atmosphere. Instead of supporting her, her friends and BF were actually holding her back, which put Andy in a more tough spot than she was already in. People say Andy’s working atmosphere was toxic maybe but if you're working with the very best everyone has a set of standards that they must uphold, Andy was no exception. Miranda knew Andy had great potential thus she tested her out and proved she had what it takes. Her friends and BF were the real Toxic ones, they never really wanted her to grow and leave her shell.
So true. I felt really bad for her when she was struggling to adapt and keep up in her workplace and her BF and "friends" provided so little support and respect and ultimately making her life unnecessarily even more difficult. And she reconciled with her BF at the end I was like defuck?
Well, I don't think the friends and the boyfriend managed the situation in the best way, but there is also the fact that Andy didn't make herself clear. She would constantly say that she will make it to their parties, that she will make it up when she couldn't make it, then failing to do so again. Be it friendship or a romantic, every relationship has boundaries, some customs and things that are important. Andy broke too many boundaries. That circle of friends and Andy grew apart the moment she prioritized her work over her private life. She is free to do that, but her friends and boyfriend are free to like or dislike the changes too.
So sick of people making moral and mental gymnastics to turn the friends and boyfriend into the villains: Andy wanted to be a journalist, a writer. They knew that and were surprised when she went full servant of an ABUSIVE boss figure. Don't know if you watched the full movie, but in the end she actually ended up being happy out of that job her friends and boyfriend hated and spoke against.
@@jorgeserna8411 and if it weren't for Miranda's cold referral on the job Andrea applied for at the ending, she wouldn't have been accepted either. Miranda helped Emily develop a good work ethic considering she used to only do the bare minimum from the start. Jobs are hard. What makes it even harder is when your supposed support system openly bullies, ridicules, and go against you for growing in a different phase than before. Unsupportive systems are what hinders a potential. Her bf and friends couldve approached her in the least toxic way possible when they knew from the start that she was struggling to get a job before she became Miranda's assistant. I don't romanticize toxic work culture but it is inevitable in reality. Fake it til you make and stand against your ground until you are able to adapt. The world will not cater to you just because you are falling vehibd. The least they couldve done was support Andrea and confront to her about it but instead they were the ones being inconsiderate and insensituve when she was struggling to adapt which by the way is a normal part of performance progress.

I find it interesting that Miranda often used the word “disappointment” when she talks to her employees. Instead of threatening them that they’ll be fired, she says “you disappoint me”. Imo this is more powerful cause that makes the person feel like they failed someone, that their boss thought they could do better and they will work harder in the future. However, when you threaten someone that they’ll be fired, that only makes the person scared or angry, but does not push your employee to perform better.
The best mothers who are experts at guilt tripping also use the same line. "You have disappointed me" or the even more cutting " you disappoint me." It really makes teenagers, especially, feel very bad about themselves and, more importantly, want to improve the next time.
Imagine miranda and cruella meet in some fashion events and both of them would have been a feud or tried to kill each other cuz they wanted to be on top.
I don't think miranda would try to kill cruella but she would give her murderous reviews. 🤔 Cruella on the other hand would try to kill miranda after reading what she has to say about cruella's new collection. 😂
For me, the best moment is in the end when Andy and Miranda suddenly meet on the street. Miranda sitting in the car, a microscopic smile in the corner of her mouth and eyes. A moment later she turns her icy look to the next imperfect creature - too slow driver: ...? Go!
Ah finally somebody saying it. All these Miranda fans "iconic, iconic" and they would write a thread of 45 messages on Twitter if their boss had one time said to them : "I don't like this skirt"
@@randomuser0483 your comment is pathetic. The beauty of movies is to relate the characters to real life. It’s interesting dialogue. You sound like a sad, sour person.

What's great about this is that despite Miranda's strictness, the audience understands her. Meryl gave this character that extra depth. We know why she is the way she is and in a way we want her to be this way.
I actually loved the idea and the contrast of the delicate and colorful flowers against a gritty industrial background with a lot of concrete and wrought iron.
I NEVER noticed how Anne played Andy as a bit more louder until the end when she shifts more into a Miranda type and starts talking softer like Meryls Miranda voice. EXCELLENCE🙌
The thing about this was back in the day I hated Miranda... Then I grew up and realized she had a point. Everything she's done is to make sure she succeeds if she succeeds everyone in the company succeeds and if one other person is wasting away that opportunity they actually dont deserve a pat on the back. Yes she's cold and heartless but she has to be there is a lot of weight on her shoulders and she really just demands that people perform 110% cause its not just their lives but everyone acquainted with the company is affected you wanna make it big you have to work hard. You have to toughen up and not be a crybaby over the most mediocre setbacks.
I think that’s best highlighted when she chastised Andy over the belts. And at the end of the day she really just wanted everyone to do their best and to take their work seriously, the product she ends up putting out either uplifts or ruins everyone in the company and the investors of the company.

I shadowed a senior doctor who is just like Miranda and the first few months was very stressful but then I realized mistakes can be deadly in our field so I learned from them. Me and my co-interns just had to reach his almost perfect standards and it was honestly the best thing I've experienced.
Medical profession is full of Miranda Priestleys! I m an Indian.
@@tnytny153there are assistants for a reason my sister
Plus the scene where she checks out "new Andy" twice because her outfit was that good
I love the fact that the author of the book tried to write Andy as the hero and Miranda as the villain, but we collectively as a society decided Andy’s friends were the villains, Andy sucked and Miranda IS the main character.
Not necessarily
More like Andy is the protagonist of the story while Miranda was of course the antagonist..ish?
@@jorgeserna8411 be fr Nate is toxic for a boyfriend throwing a tantrum just because your girlfriend can't celebrate ur birthday with u, as an adult u need to adjust they can simply move the day to celebrate it 🤷
And her friends taking the phone away from her while Miranda was calling isn't fun at all they know how harsh Miranda is and they know the consequences of actions they did to Andy yet they still did it
Miranda may be toxic and harsh but she helped Andy grow and it wasn't for Miranda, Andy wouldn't be a journalist
She scares me but somehow I understand her. It must have been hard for her as a woman to succeed and be taken seriously in her job. She probably learned it the hard way. Maybe she had a tough boss when she was young too.

Literally
I feel like my favorite line is “why is no one Rehh-deeee?”
It is the best lol
Imagine miranda and cruella meet in some fashion events and both of them would have been a feud or tried to kill each other cuz they wanted to be on top.
I always imagine Miranda doing the Barona role
The thing is cruella is more of a designer/fashionista where miranda is creative director of a fashion magazine but both have killer style
Miranda priestly:spots? For spring??
*GROUNDBREAKING*
You can watch death becomes her for something like that
I don't think miranda would try to kill cruella but she would give her murderous reviews. 🤔 Cruella on the other hand would try to kill miranda after reading what she has to say about cruella's new collection. 😂
they could not have picked a more perfect actress to play miranda, meryl streep is owning every damn second shes on screen in that movie
She owned almost every character she played. I love her character in Julie and Julia, Death Becomes Her
The “sweater slam” will always be the greatest! The delivery and choice of words were superb.
My entire body tenses at "you can do anything...RIGHT?!" God what an amazing Actress!!!
For me, the best moment is in the end when Andy and Miranda suddenly meet on the street. Miranda sitting in the car, a microscopic smile in the corner of her mouth and eyes. A moment later she turns her icy look to the next imperfect creature - too slow driver: ...? Go!
She moves quietly...She whispers and heavens fall..She is creatively critical. She smiles but with a certain purpose...
"Floral? For Spring? Groundbreaking."
Why do I feel insulted even though it's not even directed at me? 🤣
I said to myself go ahead, take a chance, hire the smart, fat girl. - love it.

My favorite - “Why is no one reeeeady….”
Our generation is hypocritical for admiring Miranda priestly while constantly complaining about toxic work culture.
Ah finally somebody saying it. All these Miranda fans "iconic, iconic" and they would write a thread of 45 messages on Twitter if their boss had one time said to them : "I don't like this skirt"

I agree with everything. However one CAN be successful while NOT being a total asshole to hardworking staff. This persona that to be financially successful you have be a complete bitch to your employees is just not true.

tip for you, work hard and be a professional like her, but don't act like her, no one deserves to work with someone having that attitude, put yourself on the others shoes, that's what a boss is, I'm a fashion designer and back in the past I used to have an attitude, I was a Diva, don't accepting anyone ideas and I was very insisive on my directions, but that does'nt work and everyone gonna get you as the bitch you are, and that's not cool, be humble, be pro active and determinated, get other people involved emotionally in the projects, and you'll get success in whatever you're doing, work as a team
