I'll be honest... I skipped through the first half of this video.... but then i stopped to listen... to your story... and found myself going back to the beginning... officially a fan now.
Those nicks and scratches represent the unique characteristics that you have given it throughout its life, and that's not a bad thing! That makes it yours!
What a fantastic story. Thank you for sharing this. Family heirloom for sure. Love that your mom never said to be careful because it was expensive, but knew it was a well crafted pen that would serve you well as a young fountain pen user just entering the adult journey. It must have brought her so much joy to be able to gift it to you. ❤ She knew the real value, the memories and stories that would be made with it. Beautiful.
Thank for sharing a memorable story of how your 146 and how you established that special bonding. Your mom must be very special to have introduce you to the writing instrument that eventually get your respect and cherish. Cheers.
Thank you so much for opening your book... Aside from great production value, sound modulation, and all of that crap, this is one of the most enjoyable TH-cams I've had the pleasure of viewing. I'm in my mid 60's, first generation American (both parents from Germany) growing up my father wrote exclusively with Parker 51s or one of 3 Montblanc 149s. Mother wrote exclusively with a Pelikan. Whereas you "connection" with your 146 runs far deeper than anything I have experienced, I understand, admire and appreciate your relationship. I am partial, to all ....51's, Pelikans, 146's, that I have accumulated over the years. Thank you again....consider me "subscribed"
What a wonderful video, thanks. It embodies all that is good in this passion of ours. It informed me and made me smile, made me reminisce and marvel at that amazing drawing. Please do more ;)
Thank you so much for your story. I have scoured the internet... as I am anxiously expecting my first One Four Six. Anxious for its beginning of telling it priceless narrative of its life with me.
Tadashi, I have really enjoyed your videos - and this story most of all. I dare say, many a child has had a simillar experience. So often, we don't recognize the true value of something until later. Yet, I would venture that it is also later that the true value actually manifests. Your pen may not have held the same value today, had you known it's cash value when it was gifted to you. I suspect it's value might be different had it lived a guarded life in a desk drawer all these years. Not necessarily less value, yet quite different. Thru these videos, it seems you are quite a good-natured gentleman with an active sense of humor. Would much enjoy an exchange of letters, if you're ever so inclined.
beautiful story behind the pen and writing. thanks for sharing. I would let my kids own their fountain pens at young age as well. think of the generation passes on, it's beautiful.
These pens were built to be used. Such a great story and I love that you were a fountain pen user at such a young age when no doubt it wasn’t the coolest thing to do. I’ve just purchased a used 146 and am looking forward to carrying on my pen’s story.
Your story with the music provided great imagery and emotion. It was the tale of a pen. But, more of a young boy, who became a man, then a father and who will one day be just a memory. The pen has a story of it's own. A loyal companion that will hopefully provide years of use and the creation of new memories with your son. The lovely drawing was a nice bonus. Thank you for sharing. Subscribed.
Oh my goodness, your video brought tears to my eyes! What a beautiful tale, from start to end! That pen is cherished and I hope it continues to be so by your son. What a wonderful gift! I am almost 60 and hope to purchase the 146 soon. My life with it may be short but I still want to have that experience of owning and using a Meisterstück. Thank you
What an enjoyable video. I have a Mont Blanc fountain pen and had Marc BACUS the nibmeister in the USA do a terrific job with the nib. As a result it is my favourite pen and nib since Marc made it so much better. RS. Canada
Thank you, you talk and draw so well. I have inherited Montblanc fountain pens from my father and have a similar stories. I was not always using Montblanc inks and realised this perhaps caused some trouble, now will be more careful to use this fountain pen. Arigatou
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I’ve been contemplating buying a 149 for a little while now and after hearing you story I’ve decided it is well worth the money and I’ll be buying one in the next week
I am trying to get a Meisterstueck 146 on eBay right now. I have found your channel by chance, you have a really relaxing voice. It is nice listening to you, it is as if I am listening to an uncle or a father (neither of which I had in my life, unfortunately). Thank you for the great experience and enjoy your pens! :-)
Thanks for sharing your story. I had just ordered my Montblanc 146 UNICEF. I was looking into the 146 blk/gold and when I saw it in platinum with the design cap it instantly struck a chord with me and I knew this was the pen for me. I am so looking forward to using it and making it a part of my personal history too.
Fountain pen with converter and piston can erase the air bobble, sometime I take ink with half capacity of pen, nib to up, erase the remain air and refill the ink until the pen full. I also drop 4~6 ink and let the ink flow along the bottle, that I waste the min ink I'm newer to write English
Class act - the pen and the illustrator. Bought one in Harrods, London, about 40 years ago . Rarely used until now - I'm retired and want to take up the old art of letter writing. I have a problem with inkflow ie not enough I'm using ordinary Quink ink - will Mont Blanc ink make any difference?
My 146 is a dry writer and it prefers lubricated or wetter inks. As my pen has aged it flows better possibly due to multiple cleanings including flossing the nib which I believe has improved in flow over time as well. I find great pleasure in writing letters the old-fashioned way after years of email and text. Enjoy!
Thanks for the reply. I've tried out my pen on some expensive writing paper and it's made a big difference The paper is blue and has a lined texture to it. Whereas the cheap white paper I used before, would behave like a kind of blotting paper that allowed the ink to bleed through to the other side - the blue paper does not. Anyhow, here's to success in all your illustrations
I bought a 149 thinking bigger is better but I kept going back to the 146. I have more comfort with the smaller pens so it is purely a personal thing for my hands. I stopped using the 149 so I sold it about 5 years ago.
So sorry for such a late reply. I have used a number of different inks in my Mont Blanc pen. I find that it works really well with almost anything except pigmented ink. This pen does not like pigmented ink like Platinum Pigmented Blue or Platinum Carbon Black. It’s a good idea to stay away from these inks anyway in a pen that you cannot disassemble and clean yourself because they tend to leave residue in the pens so I also don’t like them for piston fillers or eyedropper‘s. I enjoy using the Mystery Black just because I like pairing the Mont Blanc ink to the pen and really for no other reason except that I do like the Mystery Black. thanks for asking
❤Great reminiscing. Your drawing skills are very good. Glad the Montblanc has been good to you. Only negative is your sloppy cursive penmanship. Not to late to improve. 😮
No, penmanship has never been my strong suit. Both of my sisters have beautiful cursive skills so I guess I am the odd duck in the group but I am practicing! Thank you for your comments.
I really haven’t tried that many inks ever as I tend to just stick with what I’ve got. I have only tried a couple of Mont Blanc inks most of which I think are a little pricey so I would have to say that this mystery black is not only a good price but a decent ink as well. So, I guess it would be Mystery Black.

That's such a wonderful story ❤ do you happen to remember which size nib this is? I'm debating nib sizes while dreaming of perhaps getting a montblanc
This pen is a medium fine. About the same line as my Sailor medium. Thank you for your nice comments about my video!
What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing.
Do you find the ink a bit gray in color?
yes, after the ink dries it does have a grey sheen to it from an angle.
Is it a fine nib?
Tarea 1
Curious if you have used MB ink all these years as MB insists you do? I have a new MB 146 and I wonder if I really need to use MB ink only.
