I bought a TT, now well into my 40’s. After a life on superbikes, you just have to appreciate the sense of safety an Audi has. They are so planted and handle like a dream. Stops on demand and that Quattro will go around corners like you wouldn’t expect it. Some of the safest cars around, if you’re my age coming home late from work, they’ll take care of you. Audi’s really are amazing cars.

Had a coupe version for 3 months now and I love its Jekyll and Hyde nature....put it in comfort mode and it’s quiet and soft, just like a normal TT......flick it into dynamic mode and it becomes a snarling beast that few cars can keep pace with
I run a mapped TT RS Cab in blue as a weekend car and it is just so much fun. Forget speed and it is the acceleration. Just as you said, a quick look at the speedo reminds you how expensive points on your license can be!
Congratulations on the half-century, James - richly deserved. Biggest problem I have with the R8 is that they made it look the same as the TT (mk 1 R8 was much better in that regard). Nothing to do with the various tired cliches about TTs, just the disappoinment if you owned an R8 at how similar they look.

@G A and yes, everything was inside the car (no roof rack). The R8 barely has space for a holdall in the frunk, so it could only have been a second car for me. Fuel economy would also have dictated that.

I'd pick a Gen1 R8 V10 manual over one of these every day of the week. Feel, noise, agility, aesthetics, engagement and balance are far superior, even in the first generation. The only plus in TT is the interior, and if you're too focused on that then you've missed the point.
Is it worth having a FWD sports car / drivers car? Is it exciting or just a nice fast cruiser? The interior seems identical to a normal TT but with the diamond seats.
Excellent car, would love to get my hands on one of these, or the more practical RS3 Saloon. I prefer the styling of the RS3 saloon but I can imagine the racket this thing makes with the top down is epic in the flesh. Great two car garage this owner has.
If my recent acquisition of a turbocharged car has taught me anything, it's that there's no replacement for displacement. The spikey, uneven, power delivery of forced induction genuinely makes me feel ill. Peak power and/or toque means very little to how a car feels to drive. An old R8 V10 manual spyder is on my bucket list for sure, and you could get one for £50k, pretty sure they'll appreciate too.
Franco Banzini I need to drive a larger engined turbo engine to see how it feels. It’s a Giulietta 1.35l turbo I’ve been driving recently, it develops a lot of torque in one big lump around 3k after turbo spool, but it’s so short lived and just spins the front wheels. Yet it doesn’t make enough low down power to set off in 2nd gear, and becomes breathless at about 5k. I hate it so much, I’ve driven NA cars with a worse power to weight ratio that feel much faster because of the broader power band and response. I’m looking at old BMWs to replace it and fancy an N52 NA 3.0, I wonder if the twin turbo N54 is still smooth to drive unlike my Giulietta, if it still has a big progressive power band I’d consider that. The 1st gear pull in the Giulietta is honestly stupid, it’s so unbelievably badly setup.
£50k. Good luck with the maintenance bills that’ll add at least half on top of that again. You’ve clearly never driven a modern turbocharged car either. I don’t miss my naturally aspirated V8 in the slightest.
Good review 👍car sounds glorious. my friend has the r8 v8 and I find it amazing that new sports cars and even sport saloons r the same speed as a 10/15 year old super car still think the r8 looks better than the TTRS but the tt is probably a load cheaper to run 😄

I'd say any similarities start to erode when we're talking about the RWS R8.
