You know, 1. The first hidden blade was indeed made by Darius and the mechanism was by pulling a string tied to his palm. And after that, hidden blade was not used for a long time. 2. Bayek later on modified the blade by tying a string to his ring finger so that it can only work by twitching the ring finger and this mechanism was used till Altair changed it. 3. Eivor's method of using hidden blade is very similar to how Darius used his hidden blade. 4. Altair's modifications were exclusive to him during his time and later on passed down to other assassins after his death. But some assassns like the Spanish brotherhood still sacrificed the ring finger even Altair modified the blade. 5. One of Ezio's recruits uses an early prototype of phantom blade which was made by Leonardo because Ezio didn't allow him the hidden gun as he was just an apprentice. 6. Edward's modification of hidden blades was risky as these hidden blade can be activated by small muscle movement, and can even take the owner's life if he/she is not careful. 7. Connor's pivot blade is actually exclusive to him. The one Aveline uses is an error because AC liberation uses the same engine as AC3.
The hookblade in Revelations was amazing to use. Aside from the parkour advantage, the hook and run, hook counter and the hook and throw were very satisfying.
I think it's cool how the Hidden Blades got shorter as time went on. Altair's and especially Ezio's extend VERY far, and I noticed that around AC4 onwards they got much shorter.
@@valitiuga1947 Plus to add as history was progressed, the need for a blade wasn’t as necessary as the development of guns and rifles were getting bigger. People didn’t carry swords anymore.
@@unknownzebraz9799 true but problems could still lie with whether or not the blade is long enough to kill the targets like Ezio's was long as hell and could likely go through your skull and out the other side but like Evie and Jacob's there's a risk with it not hitting exactly where needed. Not to mention bullets dont seem to be as much as a concern for the assassins after all if you dont know it's there how'd you know to shoot at it?
AC3's hidden blade with Connor was so satisfying to use. Brutal and deadly with it. Honestly felt fun enough to use that all the missing features that Ezio had don't seem bad at all imo.
Man, AC3 was really a gem. Introduced rope darts, ship battles, hunting, and the great homestead storyline. Connor gets shit on a lot for not being as fun as Ezio, but in terms of combat I do enjoy him over the rest.
@@Baronnax All of Connor's really good moments and lines were hidden in the side content, in the main story Ubisoft wrote him like a complete idiot and so everyone hated him.
@@andrewcapra7153 While there are times when Connor seems like a moron or solely focused on CHARLES LEE, the game does well to paint him as someone completely outside of their element. He's a naive native and how he acts in the game does reflect that. It's hard to be humorous or find the nuance in life when all you know is that colonizers are enslaving, murdering, or doing even worse to your people. I do agree with what you said about his evolution in the side missions though. He DOES grow out of his old shell and OH MY GOD Ubisoft should not have deleted that ending speech he has reflecting on his time with Haytham and the settlers. It actually shows his growth as a native, an assassin, and a man.
AC3 honestly feels like its version makes the most sense. No hook or grapple gimmicks, just allowing the hidden blade to be wielded like a dagger. A lot of hidden blade gimmicks are centered around the environment or time period which is fine, but the pivot blade feels like it should have become more permanent.
Also the mechanism system of all those gimmicky blades, guns or crossbows feels pretty impossible to work in real settings. Connor blades made more sense and probably the only one you can keep hidden even with a closed up sleeve.
Yea, the other ones with their unique features always seem too fantastical even if it fits the aesthetic. For example, there's no way the phantom blade without the poison can be as effective as it is nor be durable enough for long term use. The range would also be quite bad and no way would it build up enough speed to kill a man instantly. The grappling hook from AC Syndicate is... well, I don't think I need to explain how unrealistic and unreliable it is. Edward's blade being activated by flicking of the wrist actually sounds like a very useful alternative to a string. But activating it by twitching a specific muscle not only sounds impossible, but also so impractical and dangerous. Hook blade actually sounds quite doable and also has many uses as shown in Revelation, but I can't help but question how the mechanism can reliably retract and extend a rather big hook that likely has quite a bit of weight considering it has to be as durable as possible. The hidden gun, despite being one of the coolest would probably explode on your wrist after like maybe 2 shots if you're lucky and would also not be very good for your palm.
Respect to this guy taking the time playing through all the games again to get this footage nice to see a player invested in the series much like the rest of us, enjoyed the evolution of parkour video 👍 Phantom blade has to be my favourite
I personally prefer the Phantom Blades, and despise the choice to ditch them for Syndicate in favor of the Throwing Knives, but the Pivot blade is also pretty cool.
I think the reason why all those cool features from Ezio's AC Trilogy were removed was that it gave introduction to new tools like the Poison darts, berserk darts, rope darts, etc. If the hidden blade had everything, the player wouldn't have the entire challenge of saving resources like ammos. I haven't played any AC earlier than Connor's yet, and one might still require to save ammos and buy ammunition or loot them in Altair's and Ezio's. But, still, my point being the reduced Hidden Blade features was for the introduction of other tools, which are obtainable through the storylines of Connor's through etc... Like - both Connor and Edward became assassins without the assassin initiation ritual, so their Hidden blade was much simpler and they still had to obtain tools through progressing further in their lives. As of Shay - the game had no excuse and he should have better Hidden blades than Edward's, but, it was just Black Flag re-skin so it was understandable. Then, later, the cool hidden blade features returned with Arno - because then he formally met the Assassins and was initiated formally right into it. So, to sum up, I think the cool HB features were removed for plot purposes. Just what I think - might got it wrong, tho
I'd love if that's truly the case here. But knowing Ubisoft, my best bet is that they're just lazy. My second bet is that they want to make sth new each time -> it's not working the way a portion of the fans want -> instead of trying to improve the existing mechanics, they scrap the whole thing and move on to the next idea (it's kinda similar to how they dumb down the parkour mechanics instead of trying to improve it)
Well idk man, ezio's poison blade hidden gun and all that stuff are using ammos too. And we have to collect enough money to buy the feature from Da vinci in revelation.
Well looting in ac2 is easy. The drop rate is different from specific enemies and extremely high. Don't need to loot all of em. Just captain, brutes and agile. It's gave more than enough that the rate for drop are significantly are lower in revelation onwards. In this game u can discipline to loot less, since passive income is very easy in this game u don't need lot of resources. Infact looting is just an addiction in ac2 since it's so tempting with rewards lol But in ac 3 if u somehow enjoy the accounting side missions, and gets a horse satchel, u can replenish easily by calling ur horse and loot the bags the horse carry.
Altair had throwing blades as consumables that you could also steal from brutes and can't remember if bolts too, Ezio had smoke bombs, health potions, and flint pistol bullets as consumables.
With all of these abilities, it would be pretty cool to see a feature that allows you to create your own hidden blade that could match your play style using some if not all of these certain traits.
That would be pretty cool. -Regular: Purely for assassination, but gets a good damage multiplier when performing assassinations. -Pivot: More offensive. Less damage for assassination but more when attacking regularly. -Crossbow: More damage the farther away the target is, and has the advantage that it's harder for enemies to pinpoint your location. (they will look around but won't necessarily go to where you were when making the kill.) -Dual: A hybrid between regular and pivot. Less damage bonus on either, but still a damage bonus for both. -Poison dart: Barely does damage, but allows you to put one of several different poisons on it. (Berserk, sleep, damage over time, etc) -Hook blade: Less damage for assassonation, but makes parkour faster and allows for such things as ziplines to be used. Would allow people to pick whatever play style they like the most. Or switch to the one they want to use for a particular mission.
@@Sanquinity YES then add a multiplayer deathmatch where 10 assassins have to assasinate each other in a maze like parkour map with tons of creative walls and debris
@@-Nightingale Yeah thats how modern games do now, cod, etc but multiplayer assassin's creed (not rpg) requires actual skill and intelligence, no clicking and combo's you actually need to memorize the maps and how to enliminate your target by baiting him etc
Something i think deserves note, the more modern you got with the games (Unity, Syndicate) the less weapons you had on hand. Which makes sense given guns were growing in prominence and accessibility, but kind of limits what you could do as an assassin.
though it likely also because of those games are bigger yet only have around 3-4 years development time so they may just cut down on weapon to focus on other thing.
@@zkiron7932 sort of. You're right that there were a number of weapons, but it's still less compared to AC2 to AC3. 5 or 6 compared to in Brotherhood you had 9 to 10.
This shows how greatly Ezio trilogy was made compared to all other assassin creed game playing it even now doesn't let you feel playing an old dated game It was a huge level of jump from ac 1 to 2 ..........I bought it from steam and is worth it Edit:-I'm famous
They were the best in the series in my opinion. But they really dropped the ball with the combat in AC 3 and 4 it was really messy and you couldn't even lock on to targets without aiming your gun at them which made assassination missions a pain in the ass but other than that I really liked 3 because of the story and the free running
@@undeadcowboy1266 bro what are you smoking. I never said it was bad, I just says it feels outdated. That’s a literal fact. Maybe lay off the crack or take off your rosé tinted nostalgia glasses.
Out of all the hidden blades, Altair's still hold the most iconic one, because of how he have to sacrifice the ring finger in order to use the hidden blade. That way it feels more sacred to be an assassin, like you have to sacrifice something in order to use the ultimate weapon
The hookblade is still my favorite upgrade to the hidden blades’ evolution. Was able to climb up faster, neat dodging/countering animations, new ways to create hazards for enemies. I had the most fun with those. The Phantom blade is probably my second favorite upgrade, with the Pivot Blade coming in at third, oh so appropriatelyz
Hook blade was so much fun. Too bad its game is one of the weakest in the franchise. It was ingenious how adding a hook at the end of the blade lead to so many new abilities.
One thing worth mentioning is that while the protagonist of AC Odyssey doesn't wield a Hidden Blade, a Hidden Blade does still appear in the game, specifically in the "Legacy of the first Blade" dlc story line, additionally it is revealed in AC Valhalla that Kassandra would eventually pick up and use a Hidden blade.
it's also interesting to note that Kassandra uses it normally, on the inside of her arm, with her ring finger intact despite Valhalla clearly taking place before Altair discovered a way to make the blade work without cutting off that finger, which implies that she discovered either a Hidden Blade that was more advanced than the ones used by the Hidden Ones/AC1 Assassins or the same knowledge Altair used to make the safer Hidden Blades
@@keeganlafferty1395 all this bs about safer hidden blade would be solved if people just put it on the outside of their arm. y'know, like it was intended by Darius.
@@amazo88 yeah but then its not exactly Hidden I feel like a Hidden blade on the outside of the wrist would be more for an Assassin who doesn't really care much for subtlety and plans on using the hidden blade during open combat, someone like Eivor for example, Fortunately the cloaks that Eivor wears does help with actually hiding there hidden blade, Darius's Hidden blade also isn't vary hidden as is actually rather large if my memory serves me correctly and while he does use it to assassinate Xerxes, Darius's also keeps his blade extended during his initial fight with Kassandra/Alexios.
@@kylevanderwolf4446 no, because the Assassins and Templars are still the Hidden Ones and Order of The Ancients respectively, in fact it was King Alfred who founded the Templars after he left breadcrumbs for Eivor and Hytham to follow to assassinate his Order of The Ancients subordinates as he hated that he inherited the leadership of the order from his father
I understand wanting to try new things for the series but for the Hidden Blade to be used almost nonexistently in the newer next gen games and only in stealth just looses that Assassin's Creed charm that the older games had. Being able to counter with the Hidden blades was always my favorite thing to do in those games
@@DraganKKWCZ and that's what altair's modifications were for. altair himself wanted the blade to be usable for fighting. so assassins can have more use case scenarios for the weapon and in case they need to defend themselves and don't have more conventional weapons at hand.
Remember the periods that these games took place. AC1 took place in the 12th century or 1191. AC Odyssey and Valhalla, for example, took place around 400 BC and 800 AD, respectively. My point is that the newer games took place before the Hidden Blade was fully developed or used to its fullest potential.
Its not trying new things really tho because the older games were set way further in the future to the games to current date they didnt have the knowledge to make it a battle weapon that why you dont have one in ac odyssey its because thats the start of the ac story line if you play all the new games youll notice that theres no talk of the assassins or the templars and thats because they werent an actual thing in these times it was kassandra or alexios and the cult of kosmos only in mirage do they give themselves the name “the hidden ones” when you get to altair then the assassins become the assassins brotherhood
Indeed the hookblade really give the sense of being original and not just a different animation. It truly felt like an arm extetion andI think syndicat should have brought it back instead of the grapling hook
The hidden blades in AC3 and Syndicate are the most amazing ones. The possibilitly to use it as a knife in your hand is amazing. And the blade in Syndicate is a multifunctional tool because of the gauntlet.
Don't forget the original pistol for the blade was still a prototype of sorts. It would take a good 2-3 seconds to fully lock onto a target, making it impossible to eliminate multiple enemies. Whereas in brotherhood, it got perfected to shoot just as fast as the crossbow and reload as fast too
I really think, even after removing all the cool features that Ezio had on his blade, they should've at least keep the hookblade. It was a simple and unique concept and could've been used up to Syndicate
Yes but visually, the hook blade seems too visible to the naked eye and also seems like it took a lot of arm area when sheathed. Also the lack of spacing between buildings in later games may have deemed hook blade useless. Also due to the large number of tall buildings,it would've made sense that protagonists must easily be able to climb tall buildings in a matter of seconds. Another reason I believe was due to Ubisoft trying not to reuse the same blade exclusive to that specific brotherhood to avoid any possible plotholes
I think it's gone because the assassins became much more discreet notice how the farther in the timeline the blade becomes smaller and the assassins either don't carry as much weapons or have some weapons hidden on them
@@rtr.harshalpatil4999 in Syndicate, the hidden blade is not... what we can call hidden. It's an armed gauntlet with a giant grappin system and a big metal tube for the orthers tools. If we expected Altaïr's and Shay's one, the hidden blade is not really sneaky.
Sucks we can't rectract the hidden blades at will in Ac Unity onwards. I used to activate the hell out of them cause it looked cool And let's not forget the times we accidentally get desynchronized when we unintentionally kill civilians when playing with the hidden blades🤣🤣 Good times.
I think the reason why is because in ac rogue and before there are times where you press the assassinare button but the assassin would flick their blades instead of assasinating. I think in u it’s they got rid of it to make assasinations more fluid and easy which is why u can’t flick ur blades. Or maybe I’m wrong and the older games were just janky but if the thing I mentioned is the case then im glad they made the change
In Origins you can use the hidden blade in open combat, you just unequip any other weapons you have and leave only the fist. In this way Bayek use his hidden blade to fight.
@@jeph7434 He’s talking about unarmed combat where you use your fists instead of your weapons. It does not use the hidden blade at all and instead changes his assassinations to knock outs and well, knocks out any enemy that you fight.
No wait forgetting something, in AC Syndicate there is also a kind of dart shoot similar to that of AC Brotherhood, but better, it shoots farther, more shots in succession, it has the same poison of the "Fury", and in addition if you shoot it on a heat source like a lit fire, it turns into a cloud and simultaneously poisons everyone in the air, allowing the poisoning of several persagli at once. Also forget the AC Chronicles Trilogy (China, India and Russia), in China, the protagonist Shao Jun has a simple blade classic of the time of Ezio, but in the boot / shoe, which uses assassins makes them combining this particular combination blade-martial arts, the game does not allow you to know anything else. The blade hidden on Shao Jun's foot was also used in France by a Templar in 1700. In India, the protagonist has a particular blade, from the game we can not know much besides the fact that he uses it in the style of the Indian brotherhood, but what we know we know from the menu, where in the voice of the blade we know that the protagonist has a particular "trident blade", which once in use can be divided into 3 separate blades in a similar way to a trident. The hidden blade of the assassin Arbaaz Mir (Chronicles India) was built on the model of a katara: the blade was able to separate into three thinner ones, becoming precisely as I explained before in the shape of a trident. In Russia, the protagonist does not have particular new blades, but a classic hidden blade with the improved mechanism, the peculiarity, however, is that he does not use it much, he prefers to assassinate enemies using his rifle. And then, there are other peculiarities to know: The phantom blade of Unity was designed by the French brotherhood, through Leonardo's old projects on a phantom "Crossbow Blade", which was commissioned by Ezio to replace the hidden Pistol, so that the less experienced adepts had something that acted as a surrogate, in fact the hidden Crossbow, being less strong than the pistol, it was good for novices, where the concealed pistol requires more skill to be used. The idea of the Crossbow Blade was exploited for the first time for the assassin, Francesco Vecellio. Later Ezio provided the concealed guns to the sufficiently trained adepts, however, this version was less strong requiring more bullets to kill a guard, Also Ezio during the stay in Rome, manages to use the gun without having to manually pull the trigger. Obviously The Ghost Blade, refers to Leonardo's projects on the Crossbow, but makes significant improvements, resulting superior. The mechanism of the Hidden crossbow is very similar to that of poisoned darts, except that the hidden crossbows had a longer range. The Egyptian assassin Numa Al'Khamsin of the 14th century uses a golden blade instead of steel. Although there had already been technical improvements to the blade, the Spanish brotherhood in the Renaissance, prefers to remain anchored to tradition and use the old obsolete models thus having to amputate the ring finger. During the Reconquista, the Spanish assassin María used a variant of the Hidden Blade which consisted of two thinner blades placed next to each other. In addition to this modification, the weapon functioned similarly to the traditional Hidden Blade. Its model, as a two-pointed hidden blade, was later adopted in the 21st century as the basis for the electric blade. Over the centuries, many Templars tried to replicate the hidden blade of the Assassins. The first time it happened was at the beginning of the sixteenth century, in Rome: the Templars Fiora Cavazza and Baltasar de Silva tried to create an agent, The Wolf similar to the Assassins, and equipped him with a blade similar to the hidden blade: divided into two parts, the blade met to allow The Wolf to strike. Lia de Russo also had a kind of hidden blade: unlike that of the Wolf, the mechanism seemed similar to that of the Assassins, but it was worn above the arm, not below, a similar thing was also done by Eivor. Even the first blade invented by the proto-assassin Darius was carried by himself above the forearm and not below as would happen in the following centuries. In the modern age, these variants of hidden blades were used: -Electric blade. The electric blade is a type of hidden blade used during the 21st century, replacing the traditional steel blade with two parallel blades. At the moment of penetration into the meat of the target, it generates an electric arc, electrocuting the target and internally cauterizing the wound. In 2015, some Assassins were equipped with this new type of weapon. Shaun Hastings used one in particular to ambush and assassinate high Templar Isabelle Ardant in London in 2015. -Composite blade. In order to infiltrate high-security areas, the composite blade was designed to be disassembled and reassembled easily, with most of the separate components resembling everyday objects, such as a belt buckle, a mobile phone case, a pen and the blade itself. Callum Lynch and a small group of Assassins infiltrated the meeting of the Council of Templar Elders at Holborn Hall in London, assembling the blade in a secluded area of the building;Callum used the Composite Blade to cut the throat of Grandmaster Alan Rikkin before claiming Aguilar's Apple of Eden. -Razor-Wire Blade. In 2017; Saeko Mochizuki, the Mentor of the Japanese Brotherhood, sent a new gauntlet to Kiyoshi Takakura while he was on a mission abroad, the Razor-Wire Blade. Kiyoshi used his new gauntlet in Spain, against two Instruments who were holding him, severing their limbs. Several variations of the blade have also been created, both from enemies and not, both in the past and in the present. Curiosity: -One of Ezio's first concept art shows him holding three Hidden Blades: one on the right, and two on the left. -In Assassin's Creed: Renaissance (the game's official book), Ezio's second Hidden Blade is described as a weapon with two blades, according to the initial concept. -The second Hidden Blade is slightly longer than the primary one in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, perhaps designed to be a more effective combat weapon. -Concept art of Martin Deschambault's Hidden Blade for Assassin's Creed II features three updates not implemented in the Hidden Blade: a retractable blade-shaped arrow, a trident-tipped blade to parry blows and disarm enemies, and a variation with the feather-shaped Hidden Blade. -In early concept art for Assassin's Creed III; rope darts were integrated onto the Hidden Blade's bracer, envisioned as the "Chain Blade". This concept was later modified to be closer to reality, resulting in the "Chain Blade" being scrapped for a more reasonable alternative. This ultimately developed into a grappling hook for the Hidden Blade in Assassin's Creed: Syndicate used by the twins Evie and Jacob Frye. However, in Assassin's Creed Templars Volume 1: Black Cross, a similar weapon is used by the Black Cross Albert Bolden. -The hooked blade hook, from AC Revelation is an extra support for the right blade similar to the supports of the left one such as the poisoned blade and the hidden gun, so the hooked blade is not a new blade, but two individual pieces that act separately. -In the E3 teaser trailer for Assassin's Creed; as in some concept art, Altaïr can be seen pressing a button to operate his Hidden Blade. In the game, however, there was no button or other activation mechanism. -In the Assassin's Creed: Renaissance and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood novel, unleashing the Hidden Blade required the use of a button, via a certain muscle on the forearm being flexed. The same mechanism also triggered the Hidden Gun when Ezio's thumb is pushed to the left. -In Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade(official book of the first game), the trigger mechanism is depicted as a ring worn around a pinky finger. Movement of that finger causes the blade to extend or retract. -The closest novel adaptation of the Hidden Blade to the in-game version appears in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, wherein Edward Kenway stated he had activated the blade by the tensing of a muscle that comes from the upper arm as well as the forearm, and a simultaneous flick of the wrist. This is much unlike the ring-triggered or button mechanisms as mentioned in previous novels, thus more like the in-game Hidden Blade. However; this mechanism comes with the dangerous risk of accidentally activating the Hidden Blade while flicking the wrist unintentionally, which can result in the death of a person or the wielder themselves. This is acknowledged in Assassin's Creed: Underworld(official book of AC Syindacate and Chronicles India of which he makes an interlude), where, at one point, Ethan Frye rests his chin on his left hand while wearing a Hidden Blade, with the blade itself less than an inch from his throat. -Bayek's Hidden Blade may be different as his amputated ring finger has a leather cover which is connected to the Hidden Blade itself via a string (and the bracer via leather patching), which when pulled, extends or retracts the blade, matching the description as mentioned in The Secret Crusade. The string is also significantly long enough so as to not be pulled by accident. For this Extra information, in addition to what I remember from the games I played, I also consulted the page on the Hidden Blade of the AC Wiki, in English, the Italian version is obsolete and not updated. My knowledge of English is not very good, I used mostly the Google translator to translate, I apologize in advance to those who read this comment, in case you find difficulties due to a wrong translation, I know that many have complained from this point of view.
Personal comment for AC Odyssey: I personally didn't mind that there wasn't a Hidden Blade, of course it's coherent with the plot, but above all you use, grip and power up one of the most powerful Fruit of Eden or Isu Artifacts, it's really cool, in previous titles the use of these artifacts is really limited, here you indulge as much as you can, so I really liked it. Personal comment for AC Valhalla: In this AC instead the return of the Hidden Blade made me disgusting, very useless, in reality the title was one of the few AC chapters that I hated the most, it has some positive aspects, but a lot negative in comparison, plus it's pretty boring.
@@FiglioDegliDei idk how you prefer Odyssey to Valhalla. Not that Valhalla is a good AC game, but seriously, does Odyssey even have a plot? Nothing in that game makes sense (as Assassins Creed). It's just about running for hours and hours, doing nothing but stupid generic quests. And in the end it gives you nothing.
@@sam1_2_1 Well for starters: he argues that "in AC nothing makes sense", that thrown there so it seems like bullshit and that's it, bullshit and that's it. According to people's tastes, one cannot quibble too much. Third, oh no! In Odyssey there are so many activities to do (even if they can be repetitive to some, but it's a common problem of RPGs), you just need to know how to find them. Fourth to answer your question, well of Odyssey actually the non-existent plot in the middle left that bad taste in my mouth, but otherwise I loved everything, the exploration, the ancient greek context, the skills, the upgrades, in short the free play I enjoyed it a lot, on the other hand Valhalla bored me a lot, excessively long story that could have been concluded with a quarter of the total hours for the most salient points, the rest is thrown in the middle just to annoy and get bored, I didn't like the setting, I love Vikings but I would have preferred more northern lands to England, finally the free play bored me a lot, overly long, repetitive and boring, 3 kinds of side activities and that's it repeated endlessly, power up poor character and with several limits, silly skills, in short, the sooner I finished it the better, luckily they didn't add the NG+ otherwise I wouldn't do it. I have very high expectations for Mirage, as it should return to its former glory.
Not gonna lie, I kind of miss using the H.B. as a weapon like in AC2/AC3/AC4 era. I dunno why, but I've always loved using my blades in combat. Something about those kills felt so satisfying..
Easily one of the best "changes throughout a game" videos I've ever seen. Well done! Only thing I would add is that in Odyssey the blade does make an appearance (and I'm not 100% sure if it should be added, as it is DLC, "Legacy of the First Blade", and this video is about the vanilla games).
Altair had the best one (Ignoring the finger requirement) .Not only stylish but also had the length that made you believe it could kill almost instantly when going through the Chest .
Imagine a hidden blade with Altair's glock, the Fried twin's batman grappling hook and hook blade, and Connor's knife. Also its slightly longer than Altair's, so you're basically hiding a short sword in your wrist.
All I know, is that Altairs hidden blade was broken. Once you've mastered the counter kill there was nothing the enemy could do. It even allowed you to fully skip the Al-Mualim end boss fight, where you usually have to fight him for a prolonged time, because of his apple of eden powers, with healing and clones and such. If you use the counter kill, you just kill him, lol.
I recently played through AC3 for the first time, and wow! Lemme just say, having the HB be viable as a main weapon was an absolute blast. Part of me wishes there was an AC game where the Assassin goes purely hidden blade, and no other weapons at all.
My personal favorite is the Phantom Blade. The thought of having a blade that shoots like a crossbow is awesome, Imagine a Hidden Dagger mixed with a Phantom Blade. That would be awesome.
I don't think that works bro. I mean, it is a crossbow, so the blade is technically something like a crossbow bolt. You don't see the bolt or arrow being able to turn 90 degrees or rotated after it is being nocked onto the bow or crossbow, do you? What they essentially did was combine the Throwing Knives with the Crossbow and Hidden Blade.
@@xorngoh7303Well theoretically, you could make the blades mechanism to pivot merge with the Phantom Blades so that the blades can detach and be fired.
Thank you very much for all the research and effort you put into this video! I really appreciate you explaining the modifications made and stuff like that. Damn the vibration and recoil that shocks the wrist must be tough on Ezio when he parries full-on swords with his HB!
Something that irks me about the hidden blade is the fact that it’s hidden as an act of concealment so you can be inconspicuous but in every assassins creed you’re pretty much armed to the teeth. It’d be cool if you had the option to lose all the gear and just have a hidden blade and other tools. It’d appeal to that assassin fantasy a little more
I'll always think the phantom blade is the best modification because a silent ranged option that was concealed was really useful, since guns wouldn't be quiet or as concealable for another 200 years. Not to mention stylish as hell, as befitting the French.
I remember the first time I learned we could counter with the hidden blade in the first assassin’s creed and insta kill everyone. I practiced it so much I never used any other weapon when I got it down.
Sinceramente me agrada el gancho que agregaron en revelations por alguna razon me sentia mucho mas agil en este juego que en los demas y con los combos y demas cosas que le agregaron se sentia genial y satisfactorio
This is proof my phone is listening to me. I just started getting back into the series just because I was bored, and all of the sudden, I get videos like these
I wish the hidden blade kept being an actual weapon. Like in the Ezio games. I think you could actually only play with the hidden blades. The parry time window was much shorter but it was so cool to not use swords or axes and only use the hidden blade
I really miss being able to use the hidden blade in combat. The weapon swapping in 1 and 2 from the sword to hidden blade to short sword was amazing, honestly wish they’d bring this and disarms back
For the pivot blade to be such a new concept for the hidden blade, youd think theyd even mention it once in the story. Indont recall ever hearing it talked about or introduced aside from Achilles gifting Connor the blades
I wish they didn’t downgrade the combat starting from Syndicate. Would’ve been cool to see the fighting styles of each era. Boxing for Syndicate, Pankration for Odyssey, for Origins and Valhalla, it would’ve been cool to have genuine animations with the weapons and such like previous games
It's cool how you can see as the games get closer to the modern age that other than traversal development for one it is mainly become a symbol for rank as an assassin.
@@assassin8636 the farther in the timeline you go less Assassins have hidden blades. Canonically this is because hidden blades became harder to make as the Assassins became less and less powerful so hidden blades started becoming more for Assassins of high ranks like grandmaster or master and lower level Assassins started using other forms of the hidden blade (like the taser blade)
It's interesting to see how the blade evolved. I liked the 90-degree one. The smaller version of industrial evolution is great as well. If these two features make an appearance in a more modern setup, then I'll love seeing it. Hook blade and rope guns are both cool inventions, but they're not useful in a modern setup.
I really like that in Valhalla you wear the blade on the outside of your wrist. It makes more sense to me considering you’re a Viking and stealth wasn’t exactly a strategy they’d use. Also the assassinations being you basically punching them with the blade works well for the same reason, Vikings were brutal fighters so a Viking assassin not being particularly graceful with their assassinations makes sense.
Nothing feels better and more powefull than using two hidden blades as weapons as Ezio during an instant kill combo. You could even play with them (extend/retract them at will).
One thing I wish we have in AC is the feature to clean up the hidden blade. Because this is the main assassination tool, there will be lots and lots of blood inside the mechanism. I wish there's some kind of durability meter or usage limit for the hidden blade so that there will be more challenge to the game. And if the players ignore this limit, the blade will either break or the mechanism got clogged due to the blood inside of it.
I always liked that Bayek's tradition of losing the finger started by accident. Darius didn't need to lose a finger to use the Hidden Blade and Bayek only lost his because he was being choked by Eudoros and had to activate the blade through his ring finger in order to stab him. Had the killing gone off without a hitch, the finger may have never needed to have been removed.
Love how in Valhalla when Hytham is explaining the uses of the blade to Eivor he tells him the blade should be hidden and he just goes "Yeah I'm not doing that"
Kassandra's Hidden Blade is the best Hidden blade ever. Kassandra is so good at stealth that she doesn't need a hidden blade. She just needs a sharp thing on a stick.
If you think about it, it makes sense that Bayek would have used the hidden blade sparingly, since he was 36 at the time of the game's story and had been a fully trained warrior most of his life and while he could use a wide variety of weapon types, the hidden blade is just not like any other weapon, therefore not making him really use it outside of trying to kill quietly.
I would definitely love to see the return of longer Hidden Blades. They still fill the same role, but they can also be viable in combat. God, imagine the Assassin's Gauntlet, with an Altair-length blade, and a Phantom Blade. Good lord, that would be amazing
As somebody who played the OG Assassins creed 1 with altair, i still think its one of the best, because it focuses more on the brotherhood and stealth, rather than cheap RPG Mechanics.
It’s a shame how the hidden blade costs a bit of money to restock. It’s around 800 florentines to fully restock with each hidden blade being priced at around 200 florentines and the berserk ones being priced at around 250 florentines.
I still cannot understand why having spear instead of hidden blade is such a huge problem for people. Odyssey has a spear and no hidden blade ... and? At the end, stealth system, stealth assassinations, and entire combat system are much better in Odyssey than in e.g. Origins or Valhalla.
Basim's Hidden Blade was simple, but Effective, but it was shaped into a thinner blade as to not cut the rest of his fingers, that and it fits nicely when he needed to make a fist.
You know,

I think it's cool how the Hidden Blades got shorter as time went on. Altair's and especially Ezio's extend VERY far, and I noticed that around AC4 onwards they got much shorter.
Most probably for concealing the blade better, it is probably why it cannot be used in combat as well

@@andrewcapra7153 That's true. Connor seems really dry, especially when compared to Haytham in the initial missions.
AC is my all time favorite in the franchise. So is Connor, and man after I heard his speech I loved him even more
AC3 honestly feels like its version makes the most sense.
Loved it
Ac1 Hidden blade was great though. It did remove Altair's ring finger to work
The pivot blade is returning in assassin's Creed Shadows :D

Infact looting is just an addiction in ac2 since it's so tempting with rewards lol
But in ac 3 if u somehow enjoy the accounting side missions, and gets a horse satchel, u can replenish easily by calling ur horse and loot the bags the horse carry.
Altair had throwing blades as consumables that you could also steal from brutes and can't remember if bolts too, Ezio had smoke bombs, health potions, and flint pistol bullets as consumables.
Highly recommend you at least give AC2 + Brotherhood a go
With all of these abilities, it would be pretty cool to see a feature that allows you to create your own hidden blade that could match your play style using some if not all of these certain traits.
(they will look around but won't necessarily go to where you were when making the kill.)
-Dual: A hybrid between regular and pivot. Less damage bonus on either, but still a damage bonus for both.
-Poison dart: Barely does damage, but allows you to put one of several different poisons on it. (Berserk, sleep, damage over time, etc)
-Hook blade: Less damage for assassonation, but makes parkour faster and allows for such things as ziplines to be used.
Would allow people to pick whatever play style they like the most. Or switch to the one they want to use for a particular mission.

I suspect Leonardo created an early version of cased bullets so ezio could load them fast
I really think, even after removing all the cool features that Ezio had on his blade, they should've at least keep the hookblade. It was a simple and unique concept and could've been used up to Syndicate
Don't they have that in Syndicate

In the modern age, these variants of hidden blades were used:
-Electric blade.
Curiosity:
-One of Ezio's first concept art shows him holding three Hidden Blades: one on the right, and two on the left.
Named: Assassin's Creed wiki Fandom.
My favourite renditions of the hidden blades are done by Ezio and the Kenway trio, purely because having the double blades looks so awesome.
Lmao
I like Bayek’s with the twin blades like a fork. And I think Eivor’s is cool too with how it’s worn on the top of the arm. Fits a Viking well.
Syndicate was the most advanced. It had multiple gadgets on the bracers and all. And the fact it is in the 1860’s.
Thank you very much for all the research and effort you put into this video! I really appreciate you explaining the modifications made and stuff like that. Damn the vibration and recoil that shocks the wrist must be tough on Ezio when he parries full-on swords with his HB!
Editing has improved!
Thankyou😍
I like the new design of the video, a great one!
Thankyou😍
Something that irks me about the hidden blade is the fact that it’s hidden as an act of concealment so you can be inconspicuous but in every assassins creed you’re pretty much armed to the teeth. It’d be cool if you had the option to lose all the gear and just have a hidden blade and other tools. It’d appeal to that assassin fantasy a little more
I'll always think the phantom blade is the best modification because a silent ranged option that was concealed was really useful, since guns wouldn't be quiet or as concealable for another 200 years. Not to mention stylish as hell, as befitting the French.
I never realised that the hookblade could be used to steal from enemies or pull scaffolds. Time to replay Revelations!
I remember the first time I learned we could counter with the hidden blade in the first assassin’s creed and insta kill everyone. I practiced it so much I never used any other weapon when I got it down.
0:47 man got raptured 😳
Sinceramente me agrada el gancho que agregaron en revelations por alguna razon me sentia mucho mas agil en este juego que en los demas y con los combos y demas cosas que le agregaron se sentia genial y satisfactorio
Altair stabbed him so deep at 0:47 that he flew away.😂
Hearing ACIII's theme while watching Connor/Ratonhnhahké:ton 's fluid, efficient deadly way of handling the hidden blade is just amazing.
8 months later: Assassin's Creed Nexus VR
I just finished my first play through and that game is amazing
This is proof my phone is listening to me. I just started getting back into the series just because I was bored, and all of the sudden, I get videos like these
Honestly they looked better when they were longer
Thanks for making a video on my request ❤️
It's my second account btw
Not a SIGMA 🗿🗿
No problem 😊
I wish the hidden blade kept being an actual weapon. Like in the Ezio games. I think you could actually only play with the hidden blades. The parry time window was much shorter but it was so cool to not use swords or axes and only use the hidden blade
I really miss being able to use the hidden blade in combat. The weapon swapping in 1 and 2 from the sword to hidden blade to short sword was amazing, honestly wish they’d bring this and disarms back
The Standard Ottoman hookblade has two parts you see. The Hook.......And the blade.
One more reason to say that Ezio's saga was the best, he had the best HB features ,good video, greetings from Cuba
So what are you saying
@@assassin8636 the farther in the timeline you go less Assassins have hidden blades. Canonically this is because hidden blades became harder to make as the Assassins became less and less powerful so hidden blades started becoming more for Assassins of high ranks like grandmaster or master and lower level Assassins started using other forms of the hidden blade (like the taser blade)
@skeletor443 that makes sense right?
This is like a mini documentary, good work dude 👍
Glad you liked it!
In ac oddessey, there is a character called Darius who uses a hidden blade.
When they use hidden blade but getting shorter
Enemy's heart : " are you tickling me ?"
tbh, assasin's creed odyssey is more focused on greek mythology and shits n giggles rather than any seriousness in hidden blades
Nothing feels better and more powefull than using two hidden blades as weapons as Ezio during an instant kill combo. You could even play with them (extend/retract them at will).
I’d love to see someone make a combination of the AC Revelations hook blade and the AC III pivot blade
That was an awesome video never really realised just how much the hidden blade changed over the years
One thing I wish we have in AC is the feature to clean up the hidden blade. Because this is the main assassination tool, there will be lots and lots of blood inside the mechanism. I wish there's some kind of durability meter or usage limit for the hidden blade so that there will be more challenge to the game. And if the players ignore this limit, the blade will either break or the mechanism got clogged due to the blood inside of it.
people get pissed off due to low ammo lol .. and cleaning blade , man its ubisoft not rockstar lol
@@rougenutzz5502 Rockstar aren't anything special anymore too dude
Don't nobody want that shit, its a video game not a fucking chore
red dead 2 was pretty special @@trabant3060
I had no idea the hook blade could look enemies, counter so nicely, and throw enemies too. Gunna have to revisit the game now
0:01Because there is no one with a cowboy theme
I always liked that Bayek's tradition of losing the finger started by accident. Darius didn't need to lose a finger to use the Hidden Blade and Bayek only lost his because he was being choked by Eudoros and had to activate the blade through his ring finger in order to stab him. Had the killing gone off without a hitch, the finger may have never needed to have been removed.
Yes I like
Love how in Valhalla when Hytham is explaining the uses of the blade to Eivor he tells him the blade should be hidden and he just goes "Yeah I'm not doing that"
Kassandra's Hidden Blade is the best Hidden blade ever. Kassandra is so good at stealth that she doesn't need a hidden blade. She just needs a sharp thing on a stick.
i call that a knife
Everything about unity was so original, I loved it
AC Odyssey's "hidden blade" isn't actually so... hidden
Same with Bayek and Eivor
@@lightikariofficial1756 I guess someone didn't played Origins and Valhalla until get the hidden blade 🤣
@@lightikariofficial1756wrong because in origin it’s hidden
AC odyssey takes place years before the start of the creed. in the DLC you see the first ever Hidden blade.
The spear of Leonidas is actually a cool weapon to wield.
Hear me out: pivoting hook blade + phantom blade + grabler
We had no idea how good we had it with Unity.
I would definitely love to see the return of longer Hidden Blades. They still fill the same role, but they can also be viable in combat.
God, imagine the Assassin's Gauntlet, with an Altair-length blade, and a Phantom Blade. Good lord, that would be amazing
Love from india
As somebody who played the OG Assassins creed 1 with altair, i still think its one of the best, because it focuses more on the brotherhood and stealth, rather than cheap RPG Mechanics.
It’s a shame how the hidden blade costs a bit of money to restock. It’s around 800 florentines to fully restock with each hidden blade being priced at around 200 florentines and the berserk ones being priced at around 250 florentines.
5:11 ac 3 connor combos😂
Now this is a pretty cool video to watch!
This feels more like 'Devolution of hidden blades' :(
Other Assassins: "You got to wear it below your hand" 🤓
Chad Eivor: *"Why so I can have the same mistake yall did"* 🗿
those transitions 🤔🤔 you use powerdirector dont you (👉゚ヮ゚)👉
I edit on Adobe premiere pro...and got that transition from Mixkit.com...i don't know anything about powerdirector
Great video but you didn't mention that in syndicate it also has a dart launcher built into it.
I still cannot understand why having spear instead of hidden blade is such a huge problem for people. Odyssey has a spear and no hidden blade ... and? At the end, stealth system, stealth assassinations, and entire combat system are much better in Odyssey than in e.g. Origins or Valhalla.
Cool video, forgot poison darts on Syndicate tho ;)
I loved the broken spear and the mix and matching of weapons and armor in Odyssey
Basim's Hidden Blade was simple, but Effective, but it was shaped into a thinner blade as to not cut the rest of his fingers, that and it fits nicely when he needed to make a fist.
