    i have always wondered, myself, why Ubisoft called this game Monaco Grand Prix, having been familiar with the Sega games of the (almost) same name. just as i've always wondered why it was all fictional except for the tracks of the F1 season - i mean, i understand it's not licensed (even though getting a FIA license didn't look too hard to get if the amount of licensed F1 games in the 90s is any indication), but being unable to customize anything but name is kind of a waste.

  • @Ducksauce33
    @Ducksauce33 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was this on the demo disc. with just one track? I played that allot.

  • @ShadowsBehindU
    @ShadowsBehindU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Isn't that just the DC port of racing simulation 2? Back in the day I used textures of the 97 season for the cars and renamed the teams and drivers.
    Btw. - if anyone is in search of a decent f1 game for pc and can handle some older graphics, check out f1 challenge 99-02. With season mods it's still pretty fun and it has a lot of options to finetune the car ... needs some tinkering for windows 7+ systems (specially x64) though.

    • @CitroenC407
      @CitroenC407 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep it's the DC port of Monaco GP Racing Simulation 2 on the PC. It's actually not a bad port. Not as nice as the PC game, naturally, but it's still fairly solid overall. A game that's "good" but not "great".

      They got it confused between the two countries it seems. Should be Red Bull Ring (then A1-Ring), but the track itself was there, but wrong map in the menus.

    F1 World Grand Prix was very good on Dreamcast, some little frame issues. Dreamcast was great for racers..., Fighters... Arcade Games, shmups, and online games. Oh and wacky games :) Metropolis Street racer was good too a game Mark Didn't mention and looney tunes. But, overall racers never age good unless they are arcade and more fun and less sim. Cuz the new sim racers are always better.

    Man, I would love to see a racing game with Pre-1950s race cars with today's "next gen" graphics.

  • @OwtDaftUK

    The controls in this game sucks. And it has the typical issue for DC games of having little to no visual effect. Speed Devils is a racing game I personally really liked on DC.

  • @Monacomaverick
    @Monacomaverick 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think Mark has ever played Formula1 '99 on the Playstation, because that game looks incredible considering the hardware its running on. My only gripe is that the commentary, which was so good in earlier titles, fell completely flat.

  • @julianobitsgen
    @julianobitsgen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Even when this game came out, it didn't make much of an impression. I remember reading in game magazines about it, back then. Except for the high-end PC graphics (for the time), it didn't have personality enough to stand from the crowd.
    And I was so disappointed when I played Formula 1 World Grand Prix 2, from Video System (the same company that did F1 GP on N64, a masterpiece), for the game was far less enjoyable than the older installment. It had severe frame rate issues, and it suffered from the same blandeness of this one.
    Oh, and I like Suzuki Alstare Racing. It reminds me of Manx TT Superbike for the Saturn.

  • @Yuuretsu
    @Yuuretsu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the review Mark. I could never quite put my finger on why I don't like racing sims , or any simulation game for that matter, but I do now. They don't leave much room for creativity. I like the sem-realistic ones like Daytona USA and SEGA Rally because of the colourful graphics and an amazingly catchy soundtrack, whilst I love F-zero for its overall creative design and ridiculous speeds. For some people the lack of realism might be what kills these games, but I lob=ve racing games as over the top as I can get them.

  • @deviant0001

    The graphics look pretty good for the time. And the retro mode looks cool.
    If you liked Hydro Thunder then you'll probably like 4 Wheel Thunder which is pretty much the same game except it's using 4 wheel drive trucks instead of boats. You also should try Gran Turismo 2 using the Bleem disk(if you can find one). GT2 looks amazing on the Dreamcast.

      it was released a year before the ps2. It was a direct competitor they just released it to early and people held off for the ps2. Lack of dual analog controls was a a downer also.

      ***** Not only that, after the previews hardware fiascos the company had (Genesis failed peripherals, Saturn abruptly taken off the market, people and other companies stopped trusting the company.
      Sega entered the 128bit era with companies like EA refusing to releasing their games for the DC, and of course after so many failures people were right to wait to see what Nintendo and Sony had to offer. Plus the stupid controller (no 2nd analog? only 6 buttons?).
