It's all about the mids. I might have to get one myself

I might have to get a second one for stereo 🤔

@@homestudiotoday Imagine a stereo pair for recording acoustic guitar. Very tempting indeed.

Thanks for the review. Have you tried Aston Stealth? I'm split between these two. Want to mainly record vocals with limited bleed if I'm playing guitar at the same time. The price difference is minimal in the UK.

I've never personally used the Stealth so I can't say which one of the two I would prefer, but the Stealth is a dynamic mic so better on louder sources like powerful vocals, drums, amps, etc. The Element is probably a better choice for quieter sources or as an all-around condenser stand-in.

It has a pretty flat response, with no treble boost at all and doesn't roll-off the bass like just about every other mic does. That means there's way more bass compared to other mics, both relative to the other frequencies and also in how far down they go, as most mics give you very little below 100Hz. I can see why this mic has gotten a mixed reception, as it doesn't create the sound people are used to hearing. I don't think it sounded good on the guitar at all, as the highs were drowned out. I didn't mind it on vocals though. In any environment where there is low frequency ambient noise this mic will do poorly, I think. I could see it being used on drums, and also paired with a brighter mic on amps, to drive the low end.

only problem with aston element is that there is too much bass, other than that it has a pleasant, warm tone

There is a rumor that atr2100x is not dynamic is that true?

I've never used one and this is the first I've heard of the mic let alone the rumor. Looks like a USB/XLR combo mic, which when used via USB is going to probably have a different sound than when used via XLR due to utilizing the onboard DAC, which could possibly make it sound more like a condenser. When used via XLR connection I would imagine it has a similar sound to other traditional dynamics. Again, I've never used one. Hope this helps. :)

I must have gotten a dud. I like Aston microphones but the Element is easily the worst sounding microphone I have ever come across EVER. I can only compare it to an sm7b that has been wrapped up in a blanket. It's sounds so bad that we are using it on our training courses as an example of a bad microphone.
