Great Review! I've watched a few reviews of this mic, before this one, and I was specifically wondering how it would go as a drum mic, so thanks for showing me that. I think it would be good sitting right in front of a full kit with toms, at about the level of the bottom of the toms, paired with two slightly brighter overheads, one on each side (and a regular kick and snare mic). I'm not an expert though, I'm just starting out and I've never miked a drum kit before, so maybe that doesn't make sense. But I think it would pick up the toms really well and give a bit more to the kick sound. Every other review I've seen with acoustic guitar they got a really muddy, bass heavy sound, that drowned out all the highs. I realise now it's mic placement. This mic should be a bit further away than most. The specs given by Aston show a very flat response, with no bass roll-off at all (it starts at 30Hz?). I think this is why this mic is perceived very differently by different people, as it doesn't sound the way mics "should", with boosted treble and no deep lows. I thought the bass guitar sounded great in your mix, which answered another question for me (about using it on amps). Thanks, and subbed!
@@DiegoRRL , sadly the price has gone back up everywhere. $69 was an incredible bargain and I am glad I caught it. Maybe they had too many in stock or something and were temporarily pricing it to sell fast.
My only real issue with this mic is the holder / mount. It is so so close to the pop shield that it has 1mm clearance and sometimes you can hear it tap on the mic which is far from ideal
Very unfortunate, but true. I stuck some fuzzy side self stick velcro in a couple of spots, which prevents the noise, but the designer really should have done a better job. If they fix that, and add a high pass filter on an Element II, it will be a great day!
For a song and mix that was sort of whipped up on the fly, that was really quite beautiful. Kind of reminded me of Duncan Sheik (whatever happened to him?). The biggest downside to the Element is its wider-than-normal cardioid pattern, which can make it unsuitable for some applications.
My name is Sukhwinder Singh, I'm from India, Apart from being a civil engineer, I am also a writer and poet. I have written many poems, my youtube channel had 140000 subscribers, But due to music copyright I had to delete all the videos, now I want to upload my poetry on new channel. Can you Suggest me audio interface and microphone ? so that I don't have any problem after buying it.
So, it's a ribbon mic, basically. Sounds alright, but not amazing. The proximity effect is a bit much. Maybe mics shouldn't be designed by committee. This video obviously was a heck a lot of work, so thanks for the in-depth review.
Wow! No processing? The mic is amazing.
I'm sold.
Excellent info, great reviews! Thanks for taking the time to cover this mic! I think I'll own it soon!
Great video, and sweet tune. It actually sounds pretty great to my ears.

Great vid!
With the price reduced to $69 now at several places this is a must have bargain. I just discovered this microphone tonight and already ordered it!
I wasn't able to find those prices, would you share a link with me please?
Thanks.

ribbon mics usually doesnt need a 48v clearly is more than that
It's an interesting idea but it's way too sibilant.
