    Damn, this thing sure does bring back memories. Me and my brother found an old one tucked away in my grandfather's garage and eventually got it running. I never had much of a desire to ride a bicycle so never learned how to ride one, but when we found this it's what I learned on when I was 12. We used to ride this thing absolutely everywhere, though we eventually trashed it by it riding too hard on trails. I learned many things from that old Motobecane and it set in motion my love of cars and motorcycles at a very young age. Thanks for bringing those memories back and I hope it treats you well!

    Thank you so much a 1min and 40 seconds into the video you start describing how the bike turns on. I myself have a motobecane 1974 v50 i've been rebuilding, and your the first person to actually describe the process of the bike turning on and from that i realized my variator is broken. Which is a good thing since I'm at the stage of trying to figure out everything thats wrong with it. So thank you so much for the video

    If it's been sitting a while, it would be a good idea to clean the carburetor and the points. With my bike, the clutch pad springs were seized so it wouldn't turn the motor over when it was pedaled. You need a special tool called a clutch puller to get to the internals of the clutch. You can get it online.

    I have never heard of any motobecane manual calling for 50:1. There is a sticker on the bike itself that calls for 3oz of oil per .6 gallon of gasoline, which works out to about 26:1

  • @alexsbikesandmotors
    @alexsbikesandmotors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    yup, 22. It tops out at about 30 though.

    Thanks thats what I thought, I'm also having a problem when its cold it will start and run but after a ride or two and it gets hot she will stall and then it will not start until its cold again. Not sure where to start any suggestion.

    Use NGK B5HS or Bosch W8AC spark plug and a 25:1 gas/oil mix. Have fun with your Moby!

    Nice I'm thinking about buying one off Craigslist only thing I'm worried about is assholes in cars and trucks who have no patience who have to rush every where and would run me over. Isn't it legal to ride these on any rode except the interstate ?

    yeah, registering mopeds for the road in Florida is a joke. All you need is a bill of sale (which you can easily fabricate yourself). Dead cheap too- like $40 for registration and a plate.

    I wish Mine would do that..... run that is.... :( picked mine up for $200 complete and with ownership but does not run, first off I am going to try changing the gas cause the gas even smells like it went bad, and I also have the same issue with the clutch or something similar the guy says it needs new clutch pads, but it seems to be seized idk if it cause of the pads he mentioned but I got no extra parts and I wanna try to fix it with what I got, any advise on the matter? thanks

    I keep seeing different gas ratios here... Manual says 50:1 ratio... Why would you put 32:1 ratio in a stock moby? I have a 1977 Moby 50v. I run 87 octane with a 50:1 ratio... seems to pull pretty good. Got it going around 35mph.

  • @alexsbikesandmotors
    @alexsbikesandmotors  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    regular gasoline mixed 32:1 with 2 stroke oil

    I have the same moped except from 1978 and one problem I have is it just wont idle and yet it runs great I just have to pedal start it each time I stop, also when I switch the lights on it slowly starts to die until I switch them back off do you know what that might be? Ive already vleaned all the points and the carb so im at a loss

    • @owincarmody7865
      @owincarmody7865 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try a condenser swap and a new carb. Also a new coil and spark plug may fix your idle problem. I have a 1975 motobecane and I've had some of the same problems. Make sure also that all of your wires are proper and have the proper connections.
