One of the best videos in ur series.
Since this is a bit of a niche hobby and most channels don't have more than a few thousand views per video, I still appreciate your effort of creating the content for such a small group. It's very useful to those of us that do watch.

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate you watching. Honestly, I knew I wasn't going to get tons of views fixing mopeds, but I figured the people that did watch would be kindred spirits :-)

These video's have taught me so much about my Mobylette. I've watched every video 2 or more times and I keep laughing at your jokes. Thanks for teaching me David!

Hey great videos! I bought my first Motobecane last fall. It's a 40v 20mph all stock, but looked like it was abused.
I was able to get it started. All it took was a carb cleaning and I was starting it with a single kick. I found out on my first tank of fuel though there was a leak in my fuel tank. It's along the seem in the Center at the bottom. At this time I found a 50v that seemed like a good deal, the guy sold it on the impression that it was complete, and fully functional once all the parts were put back on. It was a mess he must have put a spark plug which was to long into the motor because it had parts of porcelain embedded in the cylinder/head/piston amazing the pisto didn't break. Along with many other missing necessities.
So instead of having two functional mopeds I ended up with two non functional.
I decided to switch the engines which was a success.
I still need a few parts to complete the 50v but I got it to a point I could take it for a rip, and I got it up to 43.7km/h (27.2mph).
I'm thinking about the cylinder/piston you used in this build is there any thing I should also get while doing this? How much did you have to cut away for the cylinder to fit?
Thanks again for the great tutorials, entertaining and informative!

Heya Mike -- If you upgrade your cylinder, then you most certainly should do away with the Gurtner and get a better carb. But other than that, I think everything else could run stock. When I installed my cylinder, my cases had a little ledge that I had to grind off so that it would slide all the way in. I'm not sure that all cases have that, since I hadn't read that anybody else has ever had to do that before installation. As long as it slides all the way down, then you are good to go. Good luck with your bikes.. and thanks for watching!

Hi David, Thank you very much for your very informative and entraining videos :-) I've watched a lot of them at this stage as I'm in the process of rebuilding an old Raleigh RM8 moped, quite a similar setup to the Motobecane. I'm trying to fit a new engine which also has a variator, some modifications necessary and still to be worked out! I'm thinking of trying to fit an adjustable spring or gas strut to give me some flexibility with the engine adjustment.

keep up the great videos! just got my 78 moby running tonight, needed a new clutch, new delorto 15.15, and condenser. Hits 30 easy!

30 is strong like bull! Especially if the SHA is the only mod. Your bike must be healthy.

Sorry David, no advice from me on CDI problems. I have zero experience with CDI ignition system. I wish you the best of luck though.

Also for the ignition I'm going to experiment with inner rotor, a Chinese one for £35 from eBay it's bound to last at least 24 seconds but it has advance and no points, or I may use minimoto/ chainsaw magneto.
I'm going to use BMX handlebars.
What is the difference regarding the spring if you use a variator although if the gearing is similar to top gear with variator then acceleration is only gain.
Need a Doppler variator, no sliders, balles etc, just weights on a lever that moves the pulley!
Should be able to extend hearing/ variating by 50%!
    60mph at 13000rpm!

This is a really useful video - especially the gearing explanation. Thanks. So to retro fit a variator on a non-variated Moby, the only mounting modification required is extending the notch in the hook?
I thought it was going to be feindishly complicated - you make it look simple.

    • @DavidFixesHisShit
      @DavidFixesHisShit  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey John. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Basically... yes. I think changing the hook is the only thing I had to modify. If I hadn’t of done all the other mods, I could’ve thrown a variator on there and grind the hook and it would work.

Hello, I am asking for your advice. I can't get the seat tube out on a 1966 Bianchi Mobylette. I've been hitting it with a wooden stick and spraying WD oil for a month and it won't budge...
    thank you very much

+LeWuut -- mine popped right out. 11mm to get the nut off and then a hammer. I had problems getting them off of a puch I have, so I put some PB Blaster on them and let it sit overnight, then I came in the next day and they slid right out. Didn't even have to use a hammer :-). Maybe give that a try? Good luck!

You express gear RATIOS as 0.25 or 0.4 etc but that's incorrect.
A ratio requires two figures eh 3:1 3 turns to one turn.
    It's also simpler to understand.
A ratio is always a comparative thing, it compares one gears speed to another.
I mean same with mixing two stroke oil in petrol it can be a ratio or a fraction or a percentage eg 50:1 or one fiftieth of oil or 2%oil.

David, can I send you a new creeper seat? Seriously we’re worried you’re gonna fall, hit your head then no more videos. And I just bought a Moby so that’s not gonna work. PM me and I’ll get one to you.

Ha! Jason I appreciate it. I actually have two other stools in the shop, but I’ve fallen (pun intended) in love with this one. She has supported my ass for years now and I couldn’t part with her. I have a problem falling in love with inanimate objects 😍
