Great way to truly show the manufacturers stated capacity! Awesome video Mr. Funk! I can’t wait to try the Coosa X out in the water! 👍🏼👍🏼😀

Its nice to see a legit weight test and a manufacturer that posts a true capacity. I would also always prefer it to be on the conservative side too such is clearly the case with this one. My other jacksons were also on the conservative side. I've overloaded each of them without problems.
I have a Bonafide ss127 and it states that it has a capacity of 475lbs. I got it thinking this was the capacity. However if you arent looking at their site and the very small disclaimer, you think that cool it can carry 475. Nope thats not the case as their disclaimer says: "Note: Capacity is determined by taking kayak weight + paddler weight + gear weight. Bonafide determines capacity by where the performance of the kayak becomes very diminished.: So this is a marketing BS. Who the hell factors boat weight into the capacity. No, boat weight should NEVER be part of capacity. So in reality, the SS127 has an actual capacity of 375. This more closely matches what TG canoe and kayak stated as they felt it was about 300-350. Had I known this, I never would have purchased it and it enrages me that a manufacturer would do this.
I'm putting a deposit down on the X now.

    Beast mode!!!!
Did you put all the weight in the rear? Any in the front hatch?
Way to give it that extra “stress test”, Chris and Angie!! Coosa X is incredible!! You could sure load her up for a river camping float!

It was in front of my feet, in the rear tank well and on both sides of the seat ma'am! 2 50lbs, 2 30lb, 2 20 lb, 2 35lb and 2 15lb dumbell and kettlebells!

Sighs Chris I really hate you at times lol. I had decided no more boats. However the more I see this boat, the more impressed with it that I am. I LOVE the Playa, aka Blue color. It really pops. I like that you can trim the seat. Did you feel that the thumb screw got in the way of using the foot pegs?
I've got a Jackson tupelo, traverse, Big Rig HD and Bonafide SS127. However the more I see this boat, the more I am wanting one. My only concern is that its so similar to the BR HD. I dont want to have a duplicate boat in my quiver. I'm a bigger guy, 6'2 275lbs. I work with a non profit clearing trees from area waterways in ohio and the surrounding states. One of our members runs a big rig and Ive got a Big Rig HD and Bonafide SS127. The 127 is a decent boat, minus the seat being too narrow for my 46" waist. However you cant load it with much. The BR HD is a great boat, just heavy and large. I've loaded it beyond capacity too and was amazed by it. We are often putting in saws, winches ropes and other gear in them in addition to pulling sleds with gear. I've had the HD loaded to 600+ pounds and it just said ok lets go. TG canoe and kayak gave great feedback on the Big Rig HD saying that it paddled great even loaded to max weight. As they said while you might be able to float with a loaded kayak is that really its capacity? You need a boat that will turn and handle and still be stable. This is why they rated the SS127 effective capacity so low, and the Big Rig HD so much closer to its rated capacity. Its actually what sold me on getting the boat which I dont regret one bit.
Watching this video made me think about all the ways I could load or utilize the boat. It was awesome seeing an actual paddling test with it loaded. It was also impressive seeing it overloaded by 100lbs. Yes it was sitting low 100lbs over loaded. But still thats impressive. I really appreciate the video though you make me want to spend money LOL

good demo but hes actually way more over then he says unless I missed it...weight capacity for kayaks includes the kayak weight. So if the Kayak weight capacity is 500 but the kayak weighs 100lbs then you can only load it with 400lbs before you hit max. 100 (kayak) + 400lbs(you+gear+motor) = 500 capacity .... that kayak weighs 105 rigged . So if he puts 425 in the kayak he is already 105 over recommended gross weight capacity.

Jackson is way more conservative with their weight limits. The limit they use is when paddling efficiency is diminished. I am just pushing boats to the limit and over in my tests.

Agreed I think you did a great vid...jackson I think is very conservative...just saying instead of people thinking you were 100lbs over they should understand you are paddling 200lbs over which is impressive for that yak

    Great demo Chris, thanks.
Being a big, older angler who spent the last 5 years fishing from a Lure 11.5 (similar listed weight capacity though Lure is 2" narrower and shorter than the X; it seems like JK is conservative with their capacity ratings), it was interesting to see how the X handled 425 lbs plus being overweighted. Very impressive.
When in the Lure with gear I am running between 380 and 400 lbs and it gets squirelly when I raise the seat to full height (the only time I turtled it). It would also have water above the tops of the scuppers (I keep them plugged) but it looked like that's not the case with the X you have. Since I dumped the Lure this fall, I'm researching my next move for the spring, looks like the X might be a contender.
A couple of questions if I may ask:
Did you have the seat trimmed all the way forward during your test (it looked lie the attitude of the hull was back-weighted when you were sitting but leveled out when you stood)?
Do you know how high the chair seat is off the deck in the high vs low position?

it was about 2/3rs back Jim, not all the way because a couple of the dumbells were actually right behind my seat, i will get the measurement for you on the seat soon as i get home, i don't know why i didn't put a tape on it yet LOL i used a big swimbait package to show the difference in the Liska seat from the deck and the X and the X was 3" taller than the liska. but i will get you solid numbers as soon as i can get back to the house!

The seat is 7.75" off the deck in low, 11" off the deck in high position sir! I just got home to check.
