    Man, I sooooo happy to see that I`m not the only one struggeling hard in a single. ;) I had been rowing previously (5 years ago) in a 4x but stopped and went back into rowing three weeks ago and my coach threw me in a Coastal single the first few sessions and today into an actual single pretty much like yours. But in contrast to you, I was scared to death and almost peed my pants for the first 10min before it got slightly better. So funny that I came across your video today. Brighten my mood tremendously and I hope you are sticking with rowing. The fun in your voice at least made it look like you are having a lot of fun.

    This was ugly, but fun to watch. A really nice save there near the middle. I’ve flipped just once because my oar lock was undone. But I’ve had plenty of skid mark moments. They make you feel alive.

      Thank you!! I was so glad I got to row it, and with my coaches helping me, in only two weeks I got the technique *somewhat* down and placed 5th in the Florida state race at Nathan Benderson Park!! Such an incredible sport!

      Apologies for sounding rude, but that does not seem like teaching. I taught sculling g for 10-12 years, never had one person do anywhere near this terribly. I would have been beyond embarrassed.

    • @thecrew2846

      A backwing, is when the rest rigger (if thats the correct English word) in this case the rigger is a wing, which means that the rigger is a single piece. So the wing is placed behind of the tower.
      There are also front wing, and three/two point riggers

    Oh dear - we have all been for a bath or two over the years. I remember finding out how quick release my quick release riggers were when they were not not locked on properly - SPLASH! Dude I think is trying to run before he can walk - shorter stroke particularly at the start, crisp even exits from the water, hands, hands , hands. And never ever let go of the blades - they are your stabilisers and supports. Needs to work on the technique and building up on the strokes over time.

    So I have not done a single, as I am currently in a college that does all sweep rowing. I sculled a Quad over the summer, because local rec team was cheap to join and got me my water time I needed, and man that compared to a 4 is heaven! But I've basically done 4, quad, and 8... I'm on my last year of eligibility, so i'll be done after this year. Maybe this summer I'll get in a single. Only problem is our rec team isn't in a nice lake. We're in a river that's an active shipping channel (albeit, a part that's under used and sheltered by an island). But It'd be cool to learn and take a single up stream on the same river and put it in further up. It's a nice long stretch where people tube and kayak.

    • @nicolaspokusa
      @nicolaspokusa  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds amazing! I've definitely gotten better with rowing the single since my first time... Thankfully!! And it is probably my top boat. The feeling of being completely in control once you learn the technique and balance is like nothing else, and I'm sure that would be great rowing up stream!

    Why do noobies in a single insist on full power, full stroke? I taught sculling, and the rowers coming from sweep boats would insist on full power, full stroke from the second they pushed off the dock. I’m sure one can modulate the stroke, so do it! Half slide, half power! Keep the feathered blades on top of the water in recovery, do a flip catch. Those are not the end of the world until you figure out the sequencing, and path of travel for the hands. Sheesh.
