I have a mint Sansui 4000 from 1969 that I have used daily for 10 years. It is all original, even the lamps, and all I did was detail it and clean the switches. Runs like a champ and sounds better than both my CA1010 and HK 930 that both fully serviced. Full and very rich sounding receiver.

You keep things down to earth for us newbs while a couple of other Great restorers talk way over our heads. Another great vid Trevor! I almost peed myself when you were pulling that fuse checking the bias, it reminded me of that old operation game we used to play as kids bzzzzz.
You got me thinking about that zener. While recapping my sansui 661 (same amp board) I found that Zener diode ZD02 had been moved. It's now located on the underside of the power board across a capacitor (C04). Sansui must have realized the circuit board was made wrong, and rather than change it they patched in ZD2. The previous tec really botched this one. I also added a heat sink to TR05 regulator, since they do run hot. These are good sounding receivers, and most are undervalued in the vintage world.
I enjoyed your video. I have a 771 , which I recapped and replaced the regulator for the FM . You did make me nervous when you were setting the bias though. Normally you turn off the receiver and pull the fuse to install the meter probes. Glad you didn’t get bit or worse ,short something .
I have a Sansui 5500 that I just repaired, it had a bad transistors in the left driver board and a cold solder on a capacitor. It's sounding good now 😊
Another great job Trevor! I only wish i knew someone with your expertise nearby...but it will never happen...i have a marantz pm-94, and a sansui sx 1200 . Bought them both non-working, hoping to find a good tech ...none existing in miami.

Nice to see you back and agreed take a little time to educate yourself on LED Lighting, cheap when you buy them separately, as I learned with 24 analog FM Tuners. Tarnish on a brand new Relay, would never suspect, I do like that green LED on new relay. Strange new fuse type LEDS, like a piece of velum inside. 1 sensitive Multi meter. What an odd place to do the BIAS, surprised it still runs when you remove fuse. Diode is nothing but a check valve, why would you bridge that ?
I’m trying to back out the board with switches and Pots across the front to DeOx them but didn’t see how you removed the buttons off the switches. I’m worried about breaking the switch shafts. Any advice? Thanks
Thankyou for your experimentation on ChongX capacitors. I really don't have an ESR meter to test but found a way to test. Setting the multimeter to 2000M ohm range. Tested 0.22, 0.47, 1, 2.2, 4.7, 10 microfarad capacitors. Much quick they charge the ESR should be normal. If they take more charging time then the ESR should be high. For 100 microfarad and more i set the DMM multimeter in diode checking position and for each discharge the buzzer should be heard. If no buzzer sound it is assumed that the capacitor is faulty. Please suggest me which brand electrolytic capacitor will last long. Many people goes with Rubycon, Nichicon, and United Chemicon. Your opinion sir please.

Older sansui are great tuners i have two TU 719s arguably one of the best they made. Great video saving that recever..termiteaudio 👍
