    I'm an audio guy.... That has designed "many" audio amplifiers... Your system is just fine! What so many audio guys can not wrap their heads around is: Audio is a personal thing, and if you're happy, that's all that matters! Great Job Armando!

      With people who look at themselves as extra knowledge on a subject, they will get a type of "against the sheep", type of understanding, because they are "special", and they think they can say damn outrageous things and get away with it, sound is not personal, sound is scientific, and has an objectivity to it. Speaker placement has a scientifically verifiable effect, and that is a fact, there is no personal interpretation of that PHYSICAL fact.

    I see the "Audiophiles" have arrived. It seems some are missing the point, this was a project that had a bunch of compromises. I am 100% aware of speaker placement, heck I even said it in the video (some seem to have missed that). There's only so much I can do with the current layout and design of the house without ripping walls and redesigning things.
    This house already has a dedicated movie theater that was wired and is perfect in size to have everything done correctly. However, I chose to make that room my studio because the size of the room is really big and having my own studio is more important to me than having a fancy theater in my home.
    With that being said, I love movies and appreciate a good surround sound system. So knowing the limitations of the room and challenges we did the best that we could to make it work and also keeping it minimal. Yes, the TV is on the smaller side and the most I can fit is 70" which I haven't bought because I'm waiting for the right TV.
    Bottom line, it sounds perfect in the given conditions and everyone that has experienced it has been blown away by how immersive the sound experience is. In fact, I wish I would have recorded this but the first time I fired it up, my kids were looking around the room because they thought a bird was flying around when I played an Atmos demo. It was pretty awesome to see.
    So although I appreciate the comments, you're preaching to the choir because I already know this lol. We are 100% satisfied with everything and love watching movies and entertaining our guests which is better than not having anything at all and listening to the sound coming from the TV or a soundbar.

      Really nice man! I also got hooked on SVS! I got a Subwoofer from them years ago (It's really a beast, and that's what they are known for), but then i started looking in their speakers and man, i was in love with the Ultra towers so, yeah, i bought those :P I still need to get the center speaker and the rear speaker though. Your video convinced me to order that center right away :-) Great setup you have there man :-D

      Yes, my system is the same. I made a lot of compromises. I know exactly what should be, and what shouldnt be. But Im not building a strict theater, Im building a media room. If I wanted a theater, I would have built an underground basement. So yes I respect your choices. The one thing I would recommend is packing your front speaker spaces with 6 lb rock wool insulation around the actual speakers. Thats what I did here.. th-cam.com/video/_xD_eszip0E/w-d-xo.html

    • @jamielofts
      @jamielofts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm jealous and I will admit it. I won't start making an ass of myself by making comments about what you should and shouldn't be doing. Can you pay less? Yes. Can you pay more? Yes. But the main question is..... Do you enjoy it? Majority of people making a comment probably don't have a setup. I'm happy with my cheap pionner dts-hd setup and if I had the space and money, I would do the exact same thing you have. Ignore the haters and enjoy what you have.

  • @David-dj5kb

    I noticed that you have your SVS bookshelf speakers inside of a cabinet which very negatively affects sound quality such as resonance. I would suggest to stick acoustic foam in the entire inside of those cabinets so that you don’t get resonating sound reflections.

      Yeah, had to work with the layout of the home. I mean in all fairness it had a dedicated theater room. I just decided to make it my studio because it's really big and I'd rather have a studio than a dedicated theater room

But he could always get a screen and projector to drop in front of all that when he wants to do a "proper" movie night. :) He may have to spend as much on a gift for his wife as he does for the projector & screen...

      Armando Ferreira you can always in the future have a projector screen that you can pull down in front of the TV when watching a movie and back up for casual tv watching. They make acoustically transparent projector screens so you're speakers can stay where they are.

    If that is a 9.2 receiver I would get another pair of the in ceiling speakers to add front heights, especially since your left and right fronts are so close together, it will really help expand the stereo image of the room beyond just overhead effects etc.. I live in a small apartment and it is great added effect

  • @jboi9309
    @jboi9309 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Nice home audio setup... Nice pad too... I don't get the negative comments regarding the TV?? "Each to their own".. A 65" TV is not a small TV by any stretch of the imagination.. it fits in nicely to its surroundings too.. There's not many people can afford to buy a 65" TV and put it in a place they can call home.. People can't even afford to buy a home with a living room big enough to fit in.. So good on yah!!

  • @frankvee
    @frankvee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, swiveling the rear speakers a bit toward the listener is a good idea. You should also move your couch up about 6-8 feet closer to the TV. This will solve a few of your problems. It will make the TV appear larger, it will triangulate your distance to the left and right speakers closer to an isosceles triangle which will improve imaging and stereo sound (currently you're way too far away from the fronts and center), it will also place the ceiling mounted speaker closer to the listener, and it will improve your surround sound overall. I would also experiment placing the sub in the rear left corner of the room but if it sounds better where you have it now just leave it. You can place a magazine shelf behind the sofa so the new placement of the sofa doesn't look unusual, and it you'll now have full access to the windows in the back of the room which is always nice.

    1) You should position the speakers inside the cabinet/prison forward, as close to the grille cloth as you can, so most of the sound waves escape the prison.
    2) This kind of funky setup really benefits from good room correction which the Pioneer lacks. I suggest upgrading to a receiver that has Dirac Live (NAD, Arcam).
    3) One SB16 is great but dual subwoofers are always better.

    • @KylePolansky
      @KylePolansky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jedi3511 I'm actually pretty old school. My theater is set up to copy the old SkyWalker studios. So it's 'just' set up in THX with Tannoy studio monitors and a custom microperf Stewart Filmscreen. I enjoy watching the Star Wars I podrace scene despite my DVD copy only being 480p video, but hearing the pods fly around you in surround and feeling explosions from dual 18" subwoofers is pretty incredible. I would love to give Atmos a try, but there's not enough content out there yet to justify re-doing the theater.

    Beautiful set up!
    I have a couple of questions though:
    1) with such a big space in between your couch and the tv, what were the
    Reasons for not putting the couch farther away from the back wall so you have more breathing space between the surrounds and the main listening position?
    2) why did you choose a 5.1.2 instead of a 5.1.4? Again, with such a big space, if the couch was more in the middle of the room, a 5.1.4 which is more immersive would be achievable.
    I am planning to set up my HT in the living room as well but the room is only 3m x 3m with one side of the room opening up to the dining/kitchen, not unlike yours. so I am forced to have my couch against the wall. However I am racking my brains to find the best way to set up a 5.1.4 system. Heck, if I can I would do a 7.1.4. :)
    I think it’s a great setup and you have my envy.

One should never sit so close to the rear wall.It negatively effects bass response.Try the rule of thirds. break your room up into third's. MLP should be a third of the way back from the rear wall. And front speakers a third of then way from the front wall. It looks like you got great gear. So your off to a great start.
