Josh Binder Not Today is about not giving up no matter what, about the power of unity, about not loosing when facing our fears. The backup dancers are ARMY which have a direct influence on BTS for better and for worse(when involved in fan wars and whatnot). There are a lot, and I mean A LOT of small messages in the MV but due to it being so intense, it becomes easy to miss them. Anyway, thanks for your reaction. It was, as always, very enjoyable. I get the feeling that the backup dancers (ninjas lol) represent a lot of groups of people (ARMYs, the oppressed, minorities, etc.), and they're not chasing BTS--they're following them. This song seems to be about empowering these groups and giving them the strength to fight back against whatever is holding them down. In this MV, BTS became the physical embodiment of protection against oppressors, as shown most clearly in their ending pose when they form a wall in front of the backup dancers and take the final shot for them. Before, each BTS member fell when they were shot (in the live performance, each row of backup dancers fell as they were shot down), but once they banded together for the final shot, no one fell. (TTuTT) I love the symbolism behind that SO much. Someone in Bangtan mentioned this at one point (might've been Jin, but I really can't remember oops) "United we stand, divided we fall." What I especially love about this song is the fact that a group like BTS created it. Against all odds, they built a name for themselves out of nothing, slowly gathered an international family of supporters, and ceaselessly proved haters wrong by coming back each time with better songs, dances, and results (Billboard 100, here we come!). They actually have the credibility to tell people facing prejudice/oppression to continue their fight for success, because they are one *damn* fine example of this struggle (at the very least in the K-Pop industry). These are just a fraction of the reasons why I will never regret enlisting in the ARMY
I feel like we shouldn't connect these two newest MVs with past ones, because they both tell stories on their own. "Not Today" I feel like is more about Bangtan and ARMYs fighting against hate and stand for what we believe in and love. We are bulletproof after all, and no matter how much others will shoot us, will stand up and not lose. In the end, there will be an ending to everything, but it is not today (not soon in other words :D). Doesn't matter how much haters are going to try and pull us down, we will be standing strong and fly higher. Yoongi said in Seoul concert that we are the left wing and Bangtan is the right wing. We can't fly, when we don't have both wings, meaning that BTS without ARMYs are helpless, and other way around. If you recall, there was a scene, where you could see a reflection of a sky and Bangtan with back-up dancers on the ice stage. The formation they stood in reminded me of a formation when birds are flying in groups. I feel like back-up dancers represent ARMYs in a way. Before the break-down dance, back-up dancers were shot and fallen on the ground, but in the end boys are standing in the front, while holding their hands together, as if protecting them. We, as ARMYs, are always fighting and working hard for Bangtan, but in this MV, it's as if Bangtan is saying: "Hey, we will be protecting our ARMYs and all people we love and cherish, so you better not mess with us, because we are strong together." In the end, I feel like it's such a cool song, yet holds a very heart-warming message. They hinted themselves, when preparing for comeback, that they choreography will be somewhat soldier-like. While listening to this song, you can't help to think of standing behind our boys and proudly rising our Bangtan flag in honor and feeling strong bond with them. At least that is what I feel. ^^

Heya as usual loved your reaction hahaha okay so the theory: there are many out there as usual 😂 but mainly there's two, the first one is about the reflection in Kookie's, where he sees himself in his eyes, and how it links back to the previous few Mvs, where the BTS members seemed to be able to exist in two points in time, so what he's seeing is his past self, and the BTS members willingly took the bullets. (I'm not exactly sure of this one so pardon me if it's confusing😂😂) the second theory is that our own bulletproof Boy Scouts are trying to protect us from the bullets of hate as you can see by how the position of the BTS members and the backup dancers interchange. sometimes it seems as though the back up dancers are trying to block the bullets with their bodies but at the end the BTS members formed a circle linked their arms and defended the back up dancers which represent the ARMYs. Also it's a message for the haters that they will not fall today, not with the support that their fandom is providing them, and the support they're providing for the fandom👍🏼 this makes me emotional damn

Though the scene after RapMon and Jhope when the backups make a figure looks like they create a weapon (bazooka? Missile? Etc) and shoot it toward BTS. In the comeback choreo you can see them dodging the "bullets". In any case, I prescribe to the ARMYs defending BTS and vice versa theory.

I keep it as short as possible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We actually start with a *fast forward*. The first few frames of the mv are set in the present/close past, while after that it follows a chronological order. *What we see:* The picture in itself is simple. It looks like a quarry. We can see a barren mountain with a - what it seems like - neverending road going up that mountain. *My interpretation:* This shows two stories in one. 1.) In a later frame we can see BTS running on this road. It's their path to success. They want to reach the top, even if it's seem fruitless and there's only barren land around them. They get chased, but the people behind them (Army) shield their backs. Why are they not defined people, but a black collective? Because BTS doesn't know every single one of us, but they still now we are there. 2.) It's a critique on the industry in general. The mountain/quarry symbolizes KPop. It's a barren land, where all the riches like creativity have been mined out to make money, until nothing was left than a giant lifeless manmade construct, which looks impressive (shown by the panorama shot), but can't sustain anything. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Flashback! *What we see:* An old building, who has seen better days and a underground garage. Namjoon alone walking. People in black. *My interpretation:* The building is BigHit (Not very nice, but they were on their last leg). It tells the story of BTS. They started quite literally underground, with Namjoon being one of those people. We also know that Bang Pd nim wanted to make a group for our leader, which is the reason, we are seeing him all alone in the beginning and the group just forms around him later on (he's in the center and surrounded by the rest of BTS). We've been told the story how BTS first formed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Time-jump to Kookies story! *What we see:* We can see our Jungkook dancing all alone in what looks like to me old concrete with buildings in the background. After he danced alone for a while the other members join him. *My interpretation:* It's obviously JKs story how he came into the big city with his dreams - concrete, he's dancing all alone - big panorama shot, that makes him look even more lonely. I found it especially interesting, who comes first into frame, when the rest of BTS joins him. Jimin is the first seen and we all know how much our ChimChim was dotting on Kookie in the beginning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *What we see:* The group again somewhere underground. There are now more people in black cloth. Followed by another shot of them running. *My interpretation:* We are moving forwards in time. In the first frame BTS is still underground in case of success, but Army (black clothed people) has gotten larger. The second frame takes us back to the beginning and present (or close past). BTS is finally above ground and can see the road to success, but also now gets chased by an unknown force, which (because they get shot at) are all the haters, who hide themselves in the anonymity of the internet. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *What we see:* They are dancing on a giant disk, which looks like ice together, surrounded by quite tall mountains, with their black clothed companions. *My interpretation:* The disk looks to me like a vinyl or cd, which could represent the music industry again. This is even further shown as it reflects the sky. They love music and performing, it is heaven to them. But they are standing on ice and it could break or they could fall any moment. So even if they are, where they want to be (together with Army), it's still dangerous ground. There can even strong wind with snow been seen, which could be the cold they faced (or stupid weather 😆). The mountains might be the giants of the industry. They look quite menacing in the background. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *What we see:* Literally everybody gets shot, but rises again. *My interpretation:* I think this picture is pretty clear. Army and BTS take bullets for each other, but even if they go down, they'll rise again and keep fighting. There is a tricky bit. The reflection in JKs eye of himself shooting. Does that mean, he sees himself as his worst enemy? Or does he think he is dragging BTS and Army down. Or does he feel quilty being unharmed, while everyone around him gets hurt? I have no idea. 😆 Oh a quick note. The birdseye shot with the sky reflecting and the bird formation: Wings - and how BTS said Army + BTS = a pair of wings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Moving to actual today! *What we see:* They continue dancing, but it's night now, the mountains are less dominant and they are surrounded by sparks. Transition: A firestorm! *My interpretation:* We see the BTS and Army of today (today today). The giants are still there, but they lost a lot of their overwhelming appearance, because time has changed. They/we are sparking the world now. And the last frame is a window into the future, when we set everything aflame in a fiery storm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Conclusion:* You could think it's just a simple dance video, but I believe it shows us, where we came from, what we had to endure and where the future will lead us. Or somebody missed their mark, it was an interesting location and the weather temporary bad. 😄 Another sidenote: If the black clothed people are indeed Army, then it goes back to even Fire. They were never background dancer, but always Army dancing with BTS. Which also would mean we set the Stage at MAMA and Melon aflame and the huge crowd of background dancers actually symbolize something. They wanted to show that Army is vast and we can also see their korean Army close to them, but a much larger crowd of international Army further away, but still a part of the unit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's what I gathered. Others might have different opinions, but was too busy with streaming to check them out 😊 Edit/PS: This mv/song is sadly quite topical again with all the hacking and slander going on. 😕
It's not a party song. It's our anthem! Those backup dancers represent ARMY ^_^ There is a story behind the video but I'm too lazy to wright it right now... Maybe later on edit or you can read someone. The right one is about ARMY and BTS standing for each other. It does not connect to Fire or any other previous MVs.
I think that the backup dancers were the army (us, ARMYs), and BTS were the shield (which is the real meaning of their name "bulletproof").They were running toward their dream/goal together. Armys were suporting them as their backup, and the boys took gun shots for armys...idk, I just has this kind of feeling...

the best theory I have seen and has stuck with me since I read it is that the people in black represent ARMY, I think the lyrics for me make me agree with that theory. In the M/V too where they are getting shot it seems that the people in black go in front to take the bullets for BTS trying to protect them from the haters and at the end BTS lock arms and stand in front as to protect their fans

I see the dancers in black as the underdogs who are running with BTS. Because when BTS members started getting shot, the backup dancers ran to the front to protect them. Then BTS were like 'Don't worry guys we got this' and then got to the front, interlocked their arms together and shield the ones behind them. (Sometimes I see the ones in black as representing the fans).

well the backup dancers are not haters they're more like controlled by rapmon and the guys . the triangle formation look closely it looks like the fly of birds black birds tho maybe craws. in jungkook blue eye he sees himself holding a gun means he's the one who shooted them . part of the lyrics says "bulletproof" means they can't die by bullet right . and finaly the guys that were runing at the end we counted them lol they're 180 persons yes bighit became rich kkkkkkkk happy you enjoyed it
I've read a theory that said that "the black people" are ARMY because you can see them protecting BTS when they are being shot at and at the end of the video the guys are linking arms and forming kind of like a shield in front of them. Also , when all the members were on the ground , so were the hooded figures. I really like that theory :)
Here's the best theory I've heard so far regarding this MV...it's towards the end: Basically, when you hear the gun shots & each member going down, it somewhat symbolizes BTS being "shot" down by negativity, the pressure of society, criticism, haters, antis, etc...pretty much everything negative thrown at them. Then you see the "black ninjas" or backup dancers coming forward, in front of BTS...almost like guarding or protecting them like a wall...shielding them from these stray "bullets". At first it looks like BTS is being chased by these "black ninjas", but they're actually running "with" BTS, NOT chasing them. It's them running with BTS, almost like a squad because when the video pans out you can see more "black ninjas" running behind BTS. These "black ninjas" represent us Armys!! We'll always be behind BTS supporting them in everything they do. That's why when you see them come forward & in front of BTS, it's like us Army's are protecting/shielding our boys from all the negativity, haters, criticism, etc. BTS is like. ..no NOT TODAY...they come forward. Flashback!
*What we see:*
An old building, who has seen better days and a underground garage. Namjoon alone walking. People in black.
*My interpretation:*
The building is BigHit (Not very nice, but they were on their last leg). It tells the story of BTS. They started quite literally underground, with Namjoon being one of those people. We also know that Bang Pd nim wanted to make a group for our leader, which is the reason, we are seeing him all alone in the beginning and the group just forms around him later on (he's in the center and surrounded by the rest of BTS). We've been told the story how BTS first formed.

Time-jump to Kookies story!
*What we see:*
We can see our Jungkook dancing all alone in what looks like to me old concrete with buildings in the background. After he danced alone for a while the other members join him.
*My interpretation:*
It's obviously JKs story how he came into the big city with his dreams - concrete, he's dancing all alone - big panorama shot, that makes him look even more lonely. I found it especially interesting, who comes first into frame, when the rest of BTS joins him. Jimin is the first seen and we all know how much our ChimChim was dotting on Kookie in the beginning.

*What we see:*
The group again somewhere underground. There are now more people in black cloth. Followed by another shot of them running.
*My interpretation:*
We are moving forwards in time. In the first frame BTS is still underground in case of success, but Army (black clothed people) has gotten larger.
The second frame takes us back to the beginning and present (or close past). BTS is finally above ground and can see the road to success, but also now gets chased by an unknown force, which (because they get shot at) are all the haters, who hide themselves in the anonymity of the internet.

*What we see:*
They are dancing on a giant disk, which looks like ice together, surrounded by quite tall mountains, with their black clothed companions.
*My interpretation:*
The disk looks to me like a vinyl or cd, which could represent the music industry again. This is even further shown as it reflects the sky. They love music and performing, it is heaven to them. But they are standing on ice and it could break or they could fall any moment. So even if they are, where they want to be (together with Army), it's still dangerous ground. There can even strong wind with snow been seen, which could be the cold they faced (or stupid weather 😆). The mountains might be the giants of the industry. They look quite menacing in the background.

*What we see:*
Literally everybody gets shot, but rises again.
*My interpretation:*
I think this picture is pretty clear. Army and BTS take bullets for each other, but even if they go down, they'll rise again and keep fighting.
There is a tricky bit. The reflection in JKs eye of himself shooting. Does that mean, he sees himself as his worst enemy? Or does he think he is dragging BTS and Army down. Or does he feel quilty being unharmed, while everyone around him gets hurt? I have no idea. 😆
Oh a quick note. The birdseye shot with the sky reflecting and the bird formation: Wings - and how BTS said Army + BTS = a pair of wings.

Moving to actual today!
*What we see:*
They continue dancing, but it's night now, the mountains are less dominant and they are surrounded by sparks. Transition: A firestorm!
*My interpretation:*
We see the BTS and Army of today (today today). The giants are still there, but they lost a lot of their overwhelming appearance, because time has changed. They/we are sparking the world now. And the last frame is a window into the future, when we set everything aflame in a fiery storm.

*Conclusion:*
You could think it's just a simple dance video, but I believe it shows us, where we came from, what we had to endure and where the future will lead us. Or somebody missed their mark, it was an interesting location and the weather temporary bad. 😄
Another sidenote:
If the black clothed people are indeed Army, then it goes back to even Fire. They were never background dancer, but always Army dancing with BTS. Which also would mean we set the Stage at MAMA and Melon aflame and the huge crowd of background dancers actually symbolize something. They wanted to show that Army is vast and we can also see their korean Army close to them, but a much larger crowd of international Army further away, but still a part of the unit.

I think that the backup dancers were the army (us, ARMYs), and BTS were the shield (which is the real meaning of their name "bulletproof").They were running toward their dream/goal together. Armys were suporting them as their backup, and the boys took gun shots for armys...idk, I just has this kind of feeling...

the best theory I have seen and has stuck with me since I read it is that the people in black represent ARMY, I think the lyrics for me make me agree with that theory. I see the dancers in black as the underdogs who are running with BTS. Because when BTS members started getting shot, the backup dancers ran to the front to protect them. Then BTS were like 'Don't worry guys we got this' and then got to the front, interlocked their arms together and shield the ones behind them. (Sometimes I see the ones in black as representing the fans).

I've read a theory that said that "the black people" are ARMY because you can see them protecting BTS when they are being shot at and at the end of the video the guys are linking arms and forming kind of like a shield in front of them. Also , when all the members were on the ground , so were the hooded figures. I really like that theory :)
Here's the best theory I've heard so far regarding this MV...it's towards the end: Basically, when you hear the gun shots & each member going down, it somewhat symbolizes BTS being "shot" down by negativity, the pressure of society, criticism, haters, antis, etc...pretty much everything negative thrown at them. Then you see the "black ninjas" or backup dancers coming forward, in front of BTS...almost like guarding or protecting them like a wall...shielding them from these stray "bullets". At first it looks like BTS is being chased by these "black ninjas", but they're actually running "with" BTS, NOT chasing them. It's them running with BTS, almost like a squad because when the video pans out you can see more "black ninjas" running behind BTS. These "black ninjas" represent us Armys!! We'll always be behind BTS supporting them in everything they do. That's why when you see them come forward & in front of BTS, it's like us Army's are protecting/shielding our boys from all the negativity, haters, criticism, etc. BTS is like. ..no NOT TODAY...they come forward. Towards the end of the video, when you see BTS stepping forward, you can see them building a wall in front of the "black ninjas" ( us Armys!!) and interlocking their arms together creating or representing a "bullet proof vest"...hence their name "bullet proof boyscouts" = Bangtan Soyeondan = BTS. Our boys were forming a wall or bullet proof vest in turn to protect us Armys!!! Yep, best theory ever & I'm sticking with it because it seems to make the most sense. The black ninjas running behind BTS is like us Armys are always behind & supporting our boys in everything they do. Screw all the haters, criticism, pressure from society, etc...no NOT TODAY..our boys are here to fight against all that. Overall, Armys are here for BTS & BTS is here for Armys. We Armys around the world show so much love & support for BTS that's why our boys always say THANK YOU to Armys around the world in all their speeches/awards etc...BTS always appreciate, acknowledge & show their love towards Armys, that's why they deserve all the wins!! #BTSarmy ^_^ #LoveTheseDorks
