    I think it is safer if you plug it in AFTER you clip on the positive and negative clips onto the battery. Thank you for your review.

    Thanks Paul. Good review and info. Just wondering...do you know if the ‘recondition mode’ (or any other mode) on that B&D charger is the equivalent of what a ‘battery tender’ would presumably do for automobile batteries that are exposed to very cold weather for long periods during winter while simultaneously not being used to start & get recharged via alternator? I think battery tenders just release a trickle charge to maintain cold crank amps but they have to be connected full time to achieve that goal & wondering if the B&D model can serve that additional purpose as well.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're welcome! The 'recondition mode' sends short reoccurring "shocks": to the battery that helps release the sulfate/electrolyte build-up on the battery plates. If a battery sits too long this build-up will occur (think corrosion on the plates) making the plate less effective at acid to metal reactions that are necessary to create electricity.
      If you put the charger into charge mode, when it senses the battery at full charge, it will go into "float" mode which is the 'battery tender' mode you are referring to. So yes the B&D does the trickle charge function to keep the battery filled at full capacity during times of non-use. They call it "float mode" (see 9:13)

    Very helpful and thank you! Love your personality! Will a 15 Amp charger damage my 12 volt mower battery? I've heard to only use a 10 Amp charger or less because anything above 10 may damage the battery.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  ปีที่แล้ว

      What kind of battery is it? Always read the battery instructions. Depending on the battery, the more Amps the faster the charge. It's not the Amps that damage, it's the overcharging. If you are using a battery charger designed for your type of battery, it shouldn't overcharge. Most batteries like a charge 20% from full and don't like much lower depletion than 20% empty.

    I bought a different charger and a separate battery jump starter. Is it fair to say that I could have just connected the charger i bought (while plugged in) to use as a battery jumpstarter? Or am I misunderstanding what you are using and doing in this video?

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This device here does 3 things. Deep cycles a battery (drain then re-charge) float charge (keeps the battery topped off when not in use for long periods of time) and emergency (dead battery with no other battery to start a car, or in this case lawn mower). The device has a capacitor that delivers enough charge to start a motor. THe battery here was complete shot, so no assist was coming from the battery and the charger was trying to float charge as well as deliver enough amps to start the mower.

    Paul you are to crazy. I have a portable battery charger and it had been charging for an hour. It acts like it wants to start but doesn't I didnt know the seat had to be down in order for the mower to start. I unpluged the battery cable to put the seat down and its completely dead. How long do I need to charge the battery.

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on how depleted the battery became. It could be beyond recharging. If the battery is still able to take a charge it could take a few hours in “charging” mode. Are using the charger depicted in the video? If so there is a start mode which provides the energy like a good battery to get it started then the motors regulator will charge the battery as you run the motor. Even so, if the health of the battery is poor, then even that wont get it charged.

  • @craigwagner327
    @craigwagner327 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What is the point of boost charging to start it if your going to charge the battery for 24 hours anyhow? Couldnt you just charge the battery for 24 hours and not use the boost start? When charging what is the proper amp you should use when charging a lawn mower battery?

    • @TSGEnt
      @TSGEnt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the battery is not in optimum health, it may not have enough amperage to actually start the motor. The Boost gives it that extra help.
