    A warning letter. That footage should be enough for due care! Guaranteed the stern letter went in the bin within seconds.

    Why is sitting in traffic on your phone instant 6 points and £200 but repeated, reckless idiocy like this just "driver retraining" and "warning letter"?

    This is where I live. I don't cycle that route, but routinely along Tottenham Court road I get over taken by buses who then swing violently into bus stops right in front of me (often as I'm entering the bus stop) leaving me nowhere to go, when if they'd waited a split second for me to clear, there'd be no problem. The irony is, that if buses stop in front of me on narrow roads, I wait patiently behind them. I also don't over take buses if they are signalling to move, I pull behind and follow, rather than put myself in a dangerous position, but many bus drivers seem to either not care or even deliberately put cyclists at risk with dangerous moves. That said, a lot of other cyclists ride like morons too, and pedestrians...well less said the better sometimes. 2 eyes, neither of which seem to work...especially when they're on the phone....

    These silly warning letters are often sent to the registered keeper, not the driver. They just make it clear that drivers can get away with endangering others even in the quite unlikely event they are caught on video and reported.

    Surely you know as a cyclist you are meant to disappear into a puff of smoke in such situations . We can't expect such motorists to wait an extra 3 seconds before turning the steering wheel .

    That was a hard No! to your question... The training courses clearly not enough, and seems they don't keep records to work out a driver has already been given the soft option.

      @Cycling God Retraining course first go, warning letter 2nd, how I understood from vid.

    • @CycleGaz
      @CycleGaz  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s in reverse order. First they got a warning, second they got sent on a retraining course.

    Hopefully the next time they do something like this, and they will, you are there to report it and they get more than a slight telling off.

      Or the cracker injures or kills someone.
      Quite clearly there's not severe enough punishment for repeat offenders, a course should come first not a warning letter, which don't make the slightest difference to crap drivers.
      Maybe a course plus points are the way to go.

  • @goodyeoman4534

    People like that never learn. The only way you can change their behaviour is by force or threat of force. The level of force required is debatable. Personally I'd ban them from driving.

    I recognise that 2022 section - I go from King’s Cross to Paddington occasionally on a Boris bike and get cut up by impatient taxi drivers all the way - surprised the police actually even did anything 😮 A better punishment would be to suspend their licence for a week and progressively more if they get reported again - clearly they haven’t learnt 🙄

    From 0:14 to 0:22 you were in the driver’s blind spot. At best, you were a distant spec in the taxi’s left mirror for no more than 4 seconds (around 0:09 - 0:13). Not making excuses for the driver as they should have checked their blind spot, but it’s easy to see how these situations can arise.

    • @CycleGaz
      @CycleGaz  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      They arise because people do not drive in the way they are meant to. When changing lanes, especially when two roads merge into one, you must check your blind spots.

    At least in the *first* incident you were probably in his "blind spot" Your position in relation to his left door mirror, his door pillars and closing speed didn't help so I don' t think it was a case of him just being inconsiderate BUT the second WAS certainly inconsiderate driving.

    • @k-rj740
      @k-rj740 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Let's see what the word "antagonist" means: "a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary." Ok, considering what we see in this video and many other videos from Gaz, if he is a so-called "antagonist" it must mean he is an antagonist toward bad drivers and all their antics. I think that should cover it ;)
