Exactly. And with Steph Curry pioneering an entire generation of 'speed and shooting' players... being big is no longer a requirement. On offense, one intangible trait of Kawamura is his gravity. Not because he's a prolific slasher/scorer like Kyrie or Ja, but because he's using his (short) height to really temp defenders to chase and block him.
Dunno if it’s the best use of preseason to adjust an offense to attack a 5’ 8” guy that won’t be playing. It’s kinda defendable although there will be other undersized guards they will play.
The nba is all about read and react, not set plays. Not saying the bulls have to activately hunt him but they should at least attack him if the opportunity presents. Not take horrible 3s
Short guys with quick feet are not an easy matchup if you play facing them. It's actually easier to put the ball on the floor against taller players. Trying to drive against a short guy forces you to dribble even lower, which if you're not used to it, will make you feel uncomfortable. Posting up is a different story. If Yuki didn't get help from the big man in the post, it would be an easy basket every time for the mismatch. But yes, he reads the game really well; that's why he has a contract.
2:35 -- "can't seal Kawamura" is kind of the operative phrase. His body doesn't exist at a height that makes the legal contact easy. Or more plainly spoken: it's harder to seal out a mouse than it is a giraffe.
Fast feet, strongly built, and high IQ. Great for perimeter guarding, but his main weakness will be shot contests on jumpers and switching mismatches in the paint where buckets will be more free for Small Forwards, whereas for the normal NBA height only PF or Centers get those easy free buckets near the paint because of their height advantage. You have to use him strategically and he has to have high defensive IQ, but he can definitely make an impact on the floor.
