Visite de la famille du 1st Lt Marv Rosvold en Normandie 14/15 juillet 2017

Le 17 août 1944, de retour de mission sur le secteur de Putanges, Marvin J. Rosvold du 397th Fighter Squadron, du 368th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, est abattu, le moteur de son P-47 touché par la FLAK. Il saute en parachute du côté de Falaise et tombe dans les lignes alliées. Il rejoint son unité le lendemain. En 1992, Michel Rainfroy, passionné d'Histoire et d'Aviation, trouve le site de crash au sud de Falaise et déterre le moteur et les 8 mitrailleuses, avec l'aide de Michel Leloup, le propriétaire du Musée de Falaise. A cette époque ils ne savent pas qui était le pilote de ce P-47. En 2011, Stéphane Duchemin, le Président du French Wing de la Commemorative Air Force découvre et restaure le parachute du 1st Lieutenant Rosvold et trouve toute son histoire excepté où son avion est tombé. La rencontre de Michel Rainfroy et Stéphane Duchemin en 2016, avec la mise en commun de leurs recherches, permettra de déterminer que le P-47 trouvé par Michel Rainfroy est bien celui de Marv Rosvold.
On August 17th, 1944, Marvin J. Rosvold of the the 397th Fighter Squadron, 368th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, was shot down while returning from a mission in the Putanges sector when the engine of his of his P-47 was hit by Flak. He bailed out near Falaise and fell behind Allied lines. He returned to his unit the following day. In 1992, Historian and Aviation enthusiast Michel Rainfroy discovered the crash location south of Falaise and dug out the engine and 8 machine guns with the help of Michel Leloup, owner of the Falaise museum. At the time, they did not know who the pilot of the P-47 was. In 2011, Stéphane Duchemin, Unit Leader of the French Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, discovered and restored Marv's parachute, piecing together its complete history except for the crash location. In 2016, Michel Rainfroy and Stéphane Duchemin pooled their research and determined that the P-47 found by Michel Rainfroy was indeed the one flown by Marv Rosvold.
