    Great tutorial. Played this song decades ago in a band... wrongly! You are a great teacher, and that is wonderful to find.

    Excellent tutorial for us keyboard players who want to play this song right!
    Thank you!
    Now, if we could just get the guitar players to come down a bit so the organ can be heard. lol

    Excellent! I have half-assed this song many times - the A major A minor part is very cool and very important. Thanks for the tutorial!

      Kenny! Glad you enjoyed:) Agreed, that major/minor thing--that was so creative of those guys. The minor and major overlapping is one of my favorite flavors that Blues has to offer us! We regularly get the idea fed to us as a sharp 9 chord... you may already know it, but if not, try these notes in this order from left to right as a chord:
      A C# E G C
      Technically, we should think of the last C as a B#, which would make it a 9th
      The Beatles did this really well on the song "The Word" on Rubber Soul.
      Kenny, I don't know if you are interested, but I am going to be creating a boat load of videos sharing some secrets I've discovered along the way! If interested...consider subscribing to my channel.
      Thanks again:)

      I just learned I've been playing the wrong root chord for nearly 30 years as well as the 11/4 walk downs. LOL
      But one thing I *still* swear I'm hearing them hit in the recordings is an E7 sharp 9 (instead of just the standard E7th chord) as the last chord in the verses. (The 2nd time he sings "Sometimes I feel" each verse) Which begins as just a regular E chord (E, G#, B) but then adds a flat 7th (D) and a sharp 9 (G).
      I very possibly could be wrong again though. But I know the Allman Brothers really utilized a lot of those "7 sharp 9" chords in their music.
      Great tutorial!!!

  • @tropicalhunch2802

    Good instructional. But on the single note drop from A down to D you hold the D for three beats then rise to the E.

    It really is a crime as to why there is NO info out there on "How to play organ like Gregg Allman." Ridiculous. The guy was a legend and there are no transcriptions, tutorials (save this one which is on a piano) of this guys organ playing. All I can find is a few drawbar settings which may be incorrect. The other guy I would like to learn about was Bill Payne from Little Feat. Again, no tutorials. It would be so useful to hear isolated organ tracks from Allman Brothers songs.

      @andyletke  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Blue Eyed Soul Man, I totally agree, Gregg’s playing is a fine craft to be studied. This video was made for one particular in person student of mine and there was no B3 on hand. But you’ve inspired me to consider offering tips on B3 settings!

    • @blueeyedsoulman
      @blueeyedsoulman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyletke Great. I really don't understand the lack though. I mean, the fist Allman album was a masterpiece. All I find is guitar videos. The organ is integral.

      Thanks for this really clear and helpful tutorial. I would definitely agree it would be great to learn more about Gregg Allman's style and techniques, so if you find the time that would be awesome. This also actually sounds rather cool on the piano, a kind of unplugged version! Cheers again

      Hey Diamond Webb, glad it helps... love your name! I have a question for you...I have the desire to make a series of instructional content. I think I'd like to work on the topic of "hand independence" on the keyboard. Would that be a topic that would interest you? I'd love to hear your feedback and/or suggestions for topics you'd like to see covered. Thanks! Hope you have a great holiday season:)

    What should I be doing with my bottom hand tho?

    • @andyletke
      @andyletke  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zman33 Great question… The answer depends on if you are playing in a band or if you are playing by yourself. If you are playing in a band, your left hand should be toggling the Leslie rotary cabinet speaker on and off changing it from fast to slow kind of like a singer sometimes uses vibrato at the end of a line. If you are playing the song by yourself, then you may want to add some bass notes. But I would not recommend playing bass notes in a band setting as you will probably interfere with your bass player’s notes and cause unwanted dissonance. Which scenario applies to you? Also, are you playing on a piano or on an organ (B3 or B3 type synth)?

    • @andyletke
      @andyletke  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zman33 ... in response to your second inquiry... solo piano players are used to having to create all of the sound... just remember that during band playing you are part of a team and the beauty is sharing the responsibility. So in this case, I recommend not clogging up extra sound with the left hand and keep it simple:) So I suggest to not do anything with the LH. Hope that helps.
