Guitar gear alert here! If you look real close you can see that both Dickey and Dan are using their neck pickups to solo. If you look really, really close, you can see that Dan has the bass side of his pickup lowered below the level of the plastic mounting ring, and the treble side of the pickup up closer to the strings. Dickey has the entire pickup level and slightly below the level of the mounting ring. I remember reading that both Dickey and Gary Richrath used to lower their pickups and raise the action, the idea being that they would get less magnetic pull on their strings, and more sustain as a result.
That's some real good observation there, now why don't you go and make up your own s*** instead of fantasizing about the past that isn't coming back and nobody doing anything to supplant or surpass it.
Dangerous Dan Toler is amazing with that solo. Love how Betts steps out and gives Toler center stage. Then later Betts does his usual thing - just kicks ass.
Toler sounds fantastic, but Betts is always doing what you won’t expect next - it’s why he’s up there with my absolute heroes on the guitar. Keep people guessing, it blows a more straightforward solo out of the water
As the day I first saw this in 82 on MTV and even now in 2021, I am still fixated on Dangerous Dan Toler's solo. Still in awe of how he remembered all that. Omg, the stamina.
Dan T. Was hella good. Saw the Brothers in Virginia Beach in about 1986 and he and Dickey had some raging guitar battles. I think the place was called The Boat Shed or something like that, and they were loud as hell on top of it all.
Gabriel Thx I too will keep coming back to the brilliance of Dan Tolers fretwork in this song and passion to honor all the Allman Brothers Tough gig to stand next to Dickey or even play with Gregg unless you really are a hands down sanctified Brother yourself
Gabe Sorry if you hate to be addressed suchly You seemed to be a Gabe It sounded good in my head You are spot on 100 percent, hands down thumbsup about dan toler I agree
Two things: Dangerous Dan is fucking awesome. And, Dickey was magnanimous, stepping back to let guitar and bass jam a bit. What a band. So many great guitarists played in it, cuz you have to be fucking awesome to be a Bro.
Good tempo for this song and really good playing. Alot of negative comments from Know nothing musicians and bogus music critics. The original whipping post on fillmore east had an ass kicking tempo that shook the house. Dan And David Toler were with GA with the Gregg Allman Band from 1984- to 1989. They added alot to greggs career and were excellent players . Warren Haynes really was responsible for bringing back the orignal sound of the ABB with his amazing slide guitar work and soulful vocals. Nashville Tennesses Alan Woody played great bassguitar that added greatly to the 1990 lineup . Then came Government Mule and the rest was history. Dicky Betts and Warren Haynes were great together, unfortunately Dickys temperment and substance abuse issues really hurt his guitar chopsin the end.He is one of the greatest guitar players of our time and his talent effected so many muscians its amazing. He kept the ABB together after the loss of DA and BO so he did become the unofficial leader for many years. When I look at a gold Top Gibson, I think of Dicky Forrest Betts as a great guitar legend and founding Father of Southern Rock. His guitar influence spaned 45 years like LesPaul, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. He will always be a one of a kind player in spite of his personal Demons. Peace to you Dicky Betts.
I just want to talk about how f****** shity TH-cam is, it decided at 7 minutes and 38 seconds that I needed to see a f****** add, instead of finishing this greatness, thanks a lot TH-cam did I mention you suck?
My god, what a good band. Was born a year after this recording, but I count myself lucky to have seen the more contemporary version of the band with Derek and Warren more times than I can remember. Miss Greg, Miss those shows. At least the former members are keeping it alive. TTB busted out Statesboro Blues at the end of the show last time I saw them in '19 and the place went ape shit.
I randomly wanted to watch this clip again this morning because Dickey looks so handsome. I was shocked when I saw someone post rip. I thought it was a joke.
Beside DDT going simply ape shit and tearing it the F up, he's also extremely color-coordinated with his cherry sunburst Les Paul, his reddish-brown shirt, brown hair, and dark sun-glasses.... I always though he oozed coolness.... 3:41. At 3:47, he pauses slightly and seems to be saying to himself ok...watch this...... masterful!
In a way I wish I could go back to drinking a 12 of Budweiser and smoking 2 or 3 packs of Marlboros at an Allmans show….the music brings out the devil in me - but boy did I love that devil. Had to put him away at 55 or death 😂

I can't tell you or even try to explain what it was like to see The Allman Brothers Band from '71-'79 ✌️❤️🌼

Nerd alert!
Funny thing is totally get it & love it 🤣
@Zach Sabbath Well, still…
Honestly I think it has to do more with the fact that their amps are cranked and to their full potential.
Outstanding point sir.
Dan Toler is as fluent a player as I've ever seen . It's assertiveness and impeccable timing that makes the special ones
And phrasing…..the dance between melody, power and shred,,,,.his solo here captures it like a definition.
For many years have loved their music. I’m 66 still listening to it
Dickey has always been my favorite brother, he is one of the best of the best.
One of the greatest rock songs ever written. Period.

Okay that close up shot of his face and you can see his fingers dancin on the fretboard in the reflection of his sunglasses… fuckin sick
I'm greatful to have seen the Allman Brothers 4x 73-88.
Those were better days.
I'm jealous. Never saw them live.
God, this is the quintessential Southern blues-rock epic.

Killer solo from Dan Toler.

It’s how you tweak the sound and strings than the bass itself usually.
Cut the goshdamn commercials mid song. Run 2 in between its pathetic
