    The "no video upload" silence was worrisome. Comforted to know you're well now. Because your aura is very welcoming, Filipinos picked up on that and seek your attention. You, being friendly & kind won't ignore anyone thereby, you stop whatever you're doing to ensure no one is feeling left out. You treat every person equally. THAT'S A VIRTUOUS CHARACTER TRAIT RARE TO ENCOUNTER in our society today. Glad to see it exists in you, Jonathan. Thank you for teaching us all HOPE IS ALIVE.

      It has been awhile! I've spent a lot of time editing this other video I'm still working on, which still isn't finished, so I posted this in the mean time! I'm happy to hear that you view me as friendly, someone else here in the comments thought I was rude in this video. That was not my intention. Thank you for watching as always, Dolores!

      Jonathan, pay no attention to the negative comments. You don't need their validation. Just be your true self and Filipinos and generally good people of the world sense your genuine soul and kind heart. You win people's hearts effortlessly and the naysayers are those you don't keep nor waste your precious time with. There are so much darkness in the world today. Watching your videos is one activity I look forward to patiently. It's a respite from the sadness of watching news on how people mistreat one another. I hope you can figure a way to INCREASE your video UPLOADS. It's a favor sincerely very much appreciated.

      @@AbYHUHisKing If you need to divulge your travel plans let it be to someone you know and trust, not to a world of strangers.
      Almost everywhere you travel one of the most common questions is "how long are you going to be here?" Why do you think that is? For some it is simply a matter of curiosity, for others a gauge as to whether or not there will be opportunity to profit from their interaction with you. And, for a few, an opportunity to rob you, knowing you may no longer be available after a day or two to follow up with the authorities.

      @@AbYHUHisKing I think they are referring to safeness. It is to avoid danger like people who wants to stalk Jonathan and do harmful things. He is a vlogger so there will be a time that a crazy person will do anything to get his attention and stalk him or something. Those kinds of things will just be a pain in the ass and will cause a lot of trouble with your plans. Meanwhile I agree with the comment, he is also a vlogger as I've mentioned and followers of this channel will always want to know which destination he is going next. My advice for that is a smarter plan, you can tell your followers where you are going next in your videos but only once you have left that place or about to. Like uploading the videos late. But it really depends on him. Whatever suits him best.

    Kudos to you kuya Jonathan for being friendly to my countrymen and showcasing what our country has to offer. My only hope is that you get to visit our mountainous region in the north of the Philippines which is Baguio. It is a very perfect place to spend summer it is even called The Summer Capital of the Philippines because of its cool climate and very beautiful sceneries. Wouldn't you want that see another side to the Philippines and not just beaches. More power to you kuya 👍

    Kuya Jonathan, I recommend that you include the Loboc River Cruise on your itinerary while in Bohol, it will be a welcome respite from the daily walking on the town under the heat of the sun. Loboc river cruise is very relaxing and the fee is reasonable and already includes a buffet meal plus live music while you cruise. Perhaps you might want to check TH-cam videos of loboc river cruise so you have a good idea of what you are getting into.

The fact that these Filipinos, including me, are having their simple lives with regard to what life is, being able to take care of what's necessary in life, and beyond that they are easy to approach. That smile you got from locals represents the Filipino character and it is what I have missed right now, in fact writing this comment made me feel like planning a vacation this upcoming year!

    a cultural tip: in my experience, 'its ok' in the philippines does not mean 'yes' :) it *might* mean yes, or yes-ish, but its far from an enthusiastic 'yes'... and generally ive found it leans more towards 'no' than 'yes'... one of the hardest things for an american (or, for me it was, at least) to adjust to culturally is the fact that a filipino will almost never, ever, flat-out refuse or say 'no' directly, especially to an older person or a foreigner. they have a million 'softer' ways to say no, like the wanly-delivered 'its ok' as you got in the convenience store... saying 'no' in that situation, especially as an employee to a potential customer (and someone filming the business) in front of their boss would be seen as almost unforgivably rude and simply never done... the unconscious expectation from a filipino is that whoever they are speaking to will pick up on the other cues like body language and tone etc to recognize it as a polite refusal, unfortunately the unconscious expectation of most americans is for people to say 'no' more directly, so they assume 'its ok' to be a 'yes'...
    likewise, one of the most common ways americans offend in the philippines is delivering a blunt refusal... i see a comment further down where someone called you out for being rude to the bracelet salesman... and i get how that would seem baffling to you, and also how what was seen on camera would have seemed rude. in time, youll come to instinctively change your response to something more like 'theyre beautiful, but im in a hurry, maybe next time i pass by? salamat sa kaayo!' ... this would be understood as 'no' but in a much more... appropriate, i guess, way.
    dont feel bad, it happens. happened to me a LOT... like a LOT before i adapted. now, ive gotten to where im just as bad about it and cant say no to my american friends and family lol i find myself doing the same thing, saying 'its ok' then being shocked when they dont realize i so 'obviously' (sarcasm) meant 'NO' :)

    • @travelescapesOFFICIAL
      @travelescapesOFFICIAL  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      thank you for this! You're right, in my culture "no thank you" is the polite way to say it, I didn't realize that that could come across as too blunt. And thanks for letting me know about "it's okay" also... Some things are different, for instance the mmmm sound means yes here, haha.. or maybe just raising the eyebrows means yes, but that doesn't mean yes in my country, so I often have to ask twice here haha... thank you for all of the information! It was helpful!

    • @radiobabylon
      @radiobabylon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travelescapesOFFICIAL no problem, it was for me the single most difficult thing to overcome culturally, because the social intricacies of 'polite refusal' are SO unconscious and SO deeply ingrained (in everyone, americans, filipinos, and otherwise) that it is super easy to accidentally offend where you never meant to. just wait until you meet a filipina and are meeting the family for dinner the first time. thats a minefield under the best of circumstances but in a cross-cultural context, hoo boy, watch your step! fortunately, im a old (50) country boy from texas, and so tend to be 'softer' and 'more polite' than average thanks to that old-time southern hospitality, which gives me a bit of a leg up... but only a bit! :)
      another cultural quirk you may have noticed but not figured out yet... when you ask where something is, and they make this weird face, they arent having a seizure or something... theyre actually pointing with their lips. yes, really :)
      also if you make it down mindanao way, let me know, i can point you at a lot of those 'hidden treasures' you wont want to miss. and connect you with folks you can trust to take you around (which is pretty important there)

    • @jwong5682
      @jwong5682 ปีที่แล้ว

      right on my dude. another example that might be confusing to others is: when people ask you to come join to eat, generally the response should be "im good, thank you".
      this is not always the case like if there's a birthday party or any celebration... :)

    • @avilabetty26
      @avilabetty26 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jwong5682 right, it's a Filipino culture to always invite someone to eat when you are eating or will going to eat and a visitor or someone is there. Commonly (if there is no occasion/events), the answer would be "no, thank you" or in bisaya "sige lang, salamat" (go ahead, thank you).

      @@avilabetty26 yeah the first time i traveled there, i was staying in a little hotel that was really more of a guest house. i was up early the first morning trying to hunt up a cup of coffee and stumbled on the staff having their breakfast... they said 'lets eat, sir!' and not knowing better (and having been warned about the perils of refusals) i reluctantly sat and ate. maybe 10 minutes later my girlfriend found me there, and pulled me aside and said 'WHY ARE YOU EATING? DONT YOU KNOW YOU ARE EATING THEIR BREAKFAST??' i was mortified and embarrassed... thankfully, i had someone there to catch me in these things (otherwise NO ONE will tell you, because that ALSO would be rude), but still the first several weeks were characterized by one misstep after another until i finally managed to get a better feel for the culture and all the hidden ways one could offend (or just act incorrectly) without having any clue about it...
      i love the philippines and filipinos because of all the places ive ever been, its closer culturally to the texas i grew up in as a boy than anywhere else... and for the most part the same rules apply there as would apply in texas (those rules of southern hospitality)... but not ALL. the differences are subtle but significant, and in some ways even harder to for me to spot for the fact that things otherwise really ARE so similar. after all these years i feel i have a pretty good handle on it now, but man it can be rough for an american early on. thankfully everyone is so gracious and understanding about it, and realize that those missteps are accidental and well-intentioned.

    Malapascua is nice also, diving with the trekker shark. But when we went to Malapascua, we just make it an option to hop in Kalanggaman island, because there's a joiner's island hopping there going to Kalanggaman Island. We just arrange it through the owner of the place where we stayed in Malapascua so she can joined us in that tour. Upon arriving in Malapascua early morning, we joined the tour then at 3pm, the banca will go back to Malapascua. It was nice coz, u'll be able to visit and explore two island☺️. Malapascua has a secret beach with turqoise water, hence it's a public beach. There's also a resort that was damaged by typhoon Yolanda before, the habal2 driver took us there, we just paid P50 for us to go inside and explore, there's a cliff overlooking the seawater. Afterwhich, he took us also to the Parola or watchtower. Malapascua is quite small in their land area as compared to Bantayan, but still has something to offer. It's up for us to discover🌴.

    Beautiful beach in Panglao ❤ we've been there with my wife it's a beautiful place to have our honeymoon, we'd spent around 6000php there including our accomodation and food there for 2days, it was worth it. Jollibee there was so efficient and they serve fast, you can order there fast too. You have to have your own vehicle there commuting on that place is I think expensive. From Leyte to Bohol ferry, I'm using our motorcycle ther from Ubay to Panglao it's just around 2hrs and 45mins travel with 60-80kph speed. So yeah we will comeback there for sure 😎🚀🏍

      😂 and yet I still got distracted by people on boats 😂 I may have adapted by traveling for so long.. I’ve been a foreigner/traveler for nearly 9 years. I’m used to it!

I'm sure she will not Remember me also but we use to be classmates on one or two subject back in Cebu at University of San Carlos. I think were freshmen at that time, before I get back to Manila. Dumaguete has a lot to offer also. There's cold spring in Valencia, then hot sulfur's going to Pulang Bato falls. Try to visit Apo Island also, best diving spot. Malatapay market, Zamboangita, is the starting point going to Apo Island. I miss the turtles there, and the limestone☺️, and the current of water going there, a wet adventure due to water splashing on the boat hehe. There's also dolphin watching in Bais and Manjuyod Sandbar a.k.a Maldives of the Philippines. Bird sanctuary and Mangrove Park. There's also caves to explore in Mabinay. Balanan Lake is Siaton. Enjoy and keep safe☺️
