This movie was just brilliant. The only reason it didn't do well at box office is this abrupt ending due to which audience left a bit confused... It's like building them up for a climax and then ending the movie. Everyone wanted natural justice, revenge for the injustice done on Azaad and the poor people as well. Had that been shown and all the evil characters were shown punished in movie then it would have surely been a big hit.

Simple logic would be, to be a hit a film should appeal to all kind of audience. Since this was sumwht of a political movie, it did nt have much wider audience and then it came at a time when song dance action ruled.
Due to super hero type image of great Big B, people don't like superstars un this type movies,may be this can be superhit if it comes now a days, because now people start liking subject based movies,
At that time Amit ji was good friend of Mr.Rajeev gandhi,and at that time government of V.)P.singh,who was anti Rajeev gandhi ji, telecasted the original movie on Dooradarshan at the time of release this movie
My grandfather once said Biggest problem with this movie is that in end amitabh bachchan commits suicide. Audience could not digest that. Even I could not digest this when I saw this movie for first time. Atleast after his death they should have shown crowd beating shit out of politician.
