Anyone else thought the neighbor is there as a guide or secret supervisor to test him and report to the company?
Yeah , it seemed like a plot twist
Yeah that's why I'd be stuck there I'd be too sus to listen 😂
It would make sense because almost every supervisor I've had acts as if they were my friend.
I had squid game vibes where the old man was the organizer of the whole thing lol
.. ..
I think his response after going though all that is very reasonable. It might have just been in his head but it was real to him, the company tormented him for weeks
reminds me of “otherlife” or whatever the movie was called
In case you haven’t watched it, some lady discovers a way to cause people to vividly hallucinate, and tries to use it to give people life experiences they otherwise couldn’t
Some higher up in the company wants to also use it for the penile system
She refuses, somethings happen, she has a night stand or something, her ‘date’ then asks about her work, causing her to run a snowboarding hallucination (the movie also calls then simulations), he wants to go again, accidentally starts a scuba diving one while she’s not looking, has a seizure and dies
She’s arrested, and looking at manslaughter, but the higher up somehow convinces the court to just use a hallucination of a jail for a year, which is actually just a concrete box with one massive LED screen counting the days
Except it bugs, and instead of releasing her at 365, it resets the counter, and she manages to break out of the cell
Eventually she does get out of the hallucination, to which the higher up says they need to study how she broke out of the prison within what should be a controlled hallucination, so he forces her into it again
This time, when she gets out, she forced him into it
To him, it was reality. It may not have been actual months of his life, but his mind certainly felt all of what happened in those months and was affected by it. No matter if what happened was reality, he experienced it all as reality.
04:13 Indeed.
04:26 Entitled.
@tacticallemon7518 I watched that one as well but the craziest part was she didn't spend like 1 day in there in real life as a sentence in a simulation that was supposed to feel like 1 year she ended up actually spending a whole year In a room set up to look like a simulation so a whole actual year was stolen from her and the clock resetting was the government deciding to give her more time for man slaughter some vigilantes saw it as unfair because she already served way over the time agreed and broke her out

this takes "and in the end, it was all just a dream" to a whole new level
Not really. Inception and Super Mario 2 did much larger versions of this.
Joe did 370 revolutions in 10 hours which means 0.6 revolutions per minute for 10 hours which is impossible if you watch how slow the wheel moves in the movie. Also that amount of calories they feed him would not allow such
I think there's an error in your calculations.
10 hours = 600 minutes = 36,000 seconds. (ignoring meals/breaks)
36,000 seconds divided evenly into 370 revolutions over the course of the day would still provide 97.3 seconds per revolution. (36,000/370 = 97.297...) or 1.621 minutes if you prefer. Which is a little over a minute and a half per revolution, which would be plenty of time and definitely possible to do, as long as we ignore the weight/effort involved in turning the wheel itself for that long (as he's definitely depicted as struggling with even a single revolution, so doing more than 10 already seems unrealistic to me).
Now if we were to imagine he was able to maintain a slightly higher rate of roughly one revolution every minute and 15 seconds, he would be able to finish 370 revolutions in only 7.7 hours. (370 x 75 = 27,750 seconds of work | 27,750/60 = 462.5 minutes of work | 462.5/60 = 7.7083... hours of work) Which would leave a little over 2 hours for meals and breaks over the course of the day, which is probably more breaktime than some people get at their actual jobs. So the only real obstacle we're facing is the reality of turning the wheel and if he's strong enough to turn it that many times at all, but if we assume he strong and capable enough, he has plenty of time.
@@kevinjudd846 please do tell me where my calculation error is lol. You literally got the same results i just rounded them
@@terskataneli6457 Dang, you're not wrong.
I think I initially misread "revolutions per minute" as "minutes per revolution" which threw me off.
But I did also spend some time breaking down how I believe that they should still have plenty of time to turn the wheel over the course of the day, so I still think it's worth reading. But yeah, we just presented the numbers a little differently.
0.6 revolutions per minute,
vs
1.6 minutes per revolution.

There’s many giveaways that this was a dream/virtual sequence. The fact that his hair on his scalp and beard didn’t grow despite the amount of time that passed is one of many.
i mean if its such an advanced simulation then they would simulate him ageing but its the movie budget that stopped that having to fake him looking older irl the actor not easy haha takes money

I got a friend whos an amanger of a amazon warehouse he tells me how they purposely create quotas that aren't realistic just so they can justify reducing their workforce
Work conditions similar but at least you could quit haha
Corporate. It's a metaphor that I went through. No matter how hard you work they will always want more. Used to be telemarketer my goal went up every month and a half. If you didn't they would terminate you. Not a email not a phone you show u. Try to clock in and can't. Ask for your supervisor he/she comes tells you you're terminated but can come back in 90 days and start over. I do construction now.
You can't be loyal to a company and expect to be rewarded for it anymore. You hop jobs every 2-ish years to get raises. "Oh you don't want to give me a raise? Okay, well your competitor has offered me a 30% raise and better benefits, so either meet that or I'm signing on with them."
Office Space said it best, do the bare minimum so u don't get noticed/fired.
I used to work in big corporation. And I was shocked when i learnt how much work and overlaping tasks are in place to keep things from changing. I advise anyone who has a bit of sanity leave any company who has more than 50 employees total.
If a company implemented a system like this there's no way they would ever let anyone go. Even if it is just a simulation with compressed time it would be torture to make someone experience months of this which is likely why they use a non disclosure agreement. Given that victims of such treatment tend to be in an emotionally vulnerable situation they are likely to sign. I'd bet that if he didn't sign he'd have an unfortunate accient.
There's no legal way to contractually obligate yourself to be tortured, nor is there such a thing as an NDA preventing you from disclosing illegal activities. The whole "contract" part of these movies is bogus.
@@SpaghettiToaster you are forgetting that you can't really prove what happened. For an outside observer he was just in a trans for a few hours. they would probably sue him to the streets if he tried to speak before going anywhere with the "buhu I have been tortured in my mind for weeks, which was only one hour irl but still"
it does make (some) sense, and there are probably similar cases irl where due to you being unable to prove the illegality you are simply breaking the NDA.
@@SpaghettiToaster Weirdly, I am not actually sure that what they did is illegal.
Oftentimes the weird laws that are on the books only because someone got away with it at least once. For example, in Illinois it's illegal to have ice cream in your back pocket. Why? Because someone put ice cream in their back pocket to lure a horse. If caught he'd be able to say that the horse just followed him. If not suddenly the horse is abandoned and free to claim. The law exists because someone got away with something that was technically not illegal.
So, back to the story: He was never actually imprisoned. Sure, they caused severe emotional harm, and if he sued them they'd be liable for tort damage and if he told the press it would hurt their brand image, but both situations can be remedied with a lawsuit.
If a real life company did this today they'd face no criminal penalties if caught, but lawmakers would probably make it illegal if enough people learned about it and only then would it stop.
Similar lines, I know there are dystopian movies where you go through a similar situation where you virtually spend time in prison even if very little IRL time has passed. Maybe its just me, but I would much rather go through much longer virtual punishment if me IRL came back where I left off. Yeah its more punishment, but you don't lose your own life.
@@jimland7176 There's a counter argument to that perspective though. If a sentence could be carried out in a matter of hours the possibility of having an appeal heard and processed is practically nil because by the time an appeal could come up the sentence will already have been served. Since your time in real life hasn't actually been taken from you there may be less societal pressure to resolve such issues.
Some of the real world conseuqneces of this would include PTSD, and of course the gradual personality changes that come with decades of life experience. The person who walks into a prison is not the person who walks out. They are shaped by their experiences for better and for worse and it affects how they live in the outside.
In Star Trek Deep Space 9 O'Brian was sent to such a prison where he experienced decades of time. His sentence for a crime he didn't commit was carried out in a manner of hours so no one could get him out of it. Had it been a real prison there would have been a way to get him out fairly quickly, but instead he had decades of traumatic experience. They couldn't perform a memory wipe because of how integrated his memories became and it significantly affected his life in a multitude of little ways. Very sad actually.
This sounds like a movie written by 12 year olds about how bad evil capitalism is...

It's a metaphor. You ARE in that situation. Now pay your taxes and rent, wage slave. Prices aren't going to inflate themselves.
@@williambarnes5023😮
Literally not in that situation. Imagine complaining about having to put in effort.
@@reesew71You realize the people that complain are almost always the ones that put the most effort and do the most work. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's likely because you only do the bare minimum required to collect a check. This movie is a reflection of the people who are talented, often gifted perfectionists and in terms of productivity do the work of 5 people while only putting out like 70% effort. When a company spots a person like this, they will squeeze the lemon for every drop it's worth. The irony is that the harder and better you work, the less likely you are to get promoted and succeed and the more work and responsibility you are given. Eventually these people realize that doing the work of 5 people is not beneficial to them for the same pay as 1 person and decide to slow it down by 50%. They are still over performing every other single employee and now doing the work of 2-3 but since their metrics technically dropped from what they showed they were capable of, they are fired. Capitalisms problem is simply that talent and hard work are never compensated accordingly or in proportion to what you contribute to a company. Often times it's more based on power/hierarchy where the laziest/most incompetent get paid more or the same while a few people single handedly carry the company and are given peanuts for doing so. Capitalism and Communism are both dogshit and oppressive unless you are the tyrant. The only difference is that capitalism is good at tricking low intelligence people into thinking they have free will and choice and there's endless opportunities if you "work hard enough " 😂
@@reesew71 Putting in effort used to be rewarded. Maybe for some people it is, but others bust their ass on the daily, working retail, food service, delivery, other "essential" services that were made to keep working in-person through even a global pandemic, while getting paid like absolute crap the whole while. Some of these people work multiple of these jobs and still barely make enough for rent and food. And you can't just say for them to go somewhere else - every one of those companies is like this. Literally the same crap with different branding. I've been there.
So, that was a forced dream.
In our dreams, we sometimes manage to recognize it's a dream, and it allows us to control the dream, have superhuman power or just fly up.
Doing the test with many people, some would be able to do this. Maybe that would be a more acceptable ending.
A controlled hallucination perhaps?
You essentially just described the plot for the Matrix
But in this sense it's more like your brain in normal sleep can run wild and do what it wants while if a nerve gear like this was developed it would send wave lengths and electronic sensations to just the right areas to stimulate the brain to think and have dreams that it wants you to have there wouldnt be any way to break that system as if your brain tried to it would counter your thought process with waves and electronic stimulation almost like a firewall
