    A step-by-step walk through on how to replace the fiberglass screen material in a standard window screen. This is a project new home owners shy away from but shouldn't as with a little instruction you will be able to fix your worn out screens in just a few minutes.

    Do you find that types of screen material (fiberglass vs. aluminum) make a big difference in the quality of their life, preference in tenants? Do you just use standard?

    I’m curious…when installing the screen does the spline face out to the outside or in toward the house?

    The tricky part is installing the screen without ripples, while not making it so tight that it bows in the frame. It’s the tough part.

    Hi. I was wondering if you've ever built a bigger screen, approximately 60" H x 36" W? If so, did you need a center brace to help hold the middle width from pulling in? Since the kits don't come with that, what did you use to make one? Let me know please. This will be my first bigger screen I'm making and want to do it right the first time. Thank you.

      I built the frame and used new screen and spline, but no matter how hard I trird the long sides bowed in a bit. I ended up just buying 1/4" wooden square dowel, cut it the right length to hold the sides apart and painted it black to match the screen. Its a temporary solution. But thats why you typically see longer screen windows with a center metal brace to hold the shape.@@Future_Legend_Told_Me

    Shall you install the window screen from the inside of the house or outside? I saw some videos from the inside and others from the outside.

    • @EverydayHomeRepairs
      @EverydayHomeRepairs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does depend on the brand of window but the majority are from the inside.

    • @charleschen4766
      @charleschen4766 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverydayHomeRepairs Thanks for your reply. I bought the Screen Tight window screen kit from Home Depot. If I install the screen from inside where the pull tabs are, the spline is facing outside. If I install it from the outside, the pull tags are visible outside. I need to install it from the inside for 2nd floor rooms because it is much easier.

    • @406MenaceRacecar
      @406MenaceRacecar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are springs in the top/bottom of the frame, just push the frame upward, and gently pop the bottom of the frame loose and take it out. Reverse to install

      Oh , I was describing a patio door assembly. There should be plastic locking tabs at the top of the screen, you'll have to tilt your window in as well , to get the screen out from the inside
