Great video Jake. I'm quite excited about this as well and I totally believe they will further develop it. Aside the output channels and DoF, I sincerely hope they somehow integrate the current particle system with it as well or create a brand new one.
Bro you are man! To me this is the most exciting update in 18.5. Can't wait to see more content on it and can't wait for Blackmagic to further develop this.
Thanks, I was already testing this function and tried to model some objects in Blender, but your video clarified some steps for me. But can't this type of 3D be integrated with the classic Fusion 3D in any way? I sent Urender on a shape plane of the normal render with the sole idea of inserting it in the classic render for example adding a Text3D node, although I guess that's improper procedure. thank you
Hi Jake - couple of tips: * You can drag a camera or light from the Effects list or toolbar directly into the viewer, and it will add it to the scene and orient it right at the current point of view. You can also choose Cameras/Copy PoV to re-orient an existing camera or light. * You can connect most 3D tools to a uMerge. This includes Camera3D (great for camera tracking) and Text3D.
This comment right here 👏 I was baffled trying to figure out how to add 3D text into my USD scene. The ability to use the normal Fu3D text and then the UReplaceMat and Ushader is a game changer. Excited to see what they add next. Fusion 19 added a lot of support but still no accumulation effects (to my knowledge)
Great video mate, theres very little on USD out there for resolve at the moment. How did you manage to track the USD can into your video at the intro? Can't seem to merge a USD with eh camera tracker from my experience.
This tut is Dynamite! You nailed it!! Agreed re. future updates. I played a bit with USD but found it horribly in adequate when trying to use any sort of light nodes to be consistent with that used in 3D scenes create in the same scene. I've been a follower of yours for a couple of years now (best guess) and I've watched you evolve your presentation skills as well as your knowledge of the topic being discussed. Your well on your way to fame and stardom!!
It's really cool that they're working on this, I just wished they re-worked some of the way certain things work first cause for example exporting with alpha it's so tedious
Yeah there are definitely a lot of things they could improve. Exporting Alpha is actually one that they have improved quite a bit. On the export tab you just have to set it to a compatible file format and codec and the Export Alpha checkbox will appear. That is WAYYY easier than it was before! Give that a try and let me know if that helps!
@@JakeWipp ooo that’s good to hear! I remember having to compound multiple clips because it wouldn’t let you do multiple clips only one at the time for some reason. I’ll wait for the full release but thank you for letting me know!
USD now has shadow options! I've copied my 3Dcamera from my camera tracker into my Umerge to use my USD into a VFX composition and it worked! only issues now is that I have no Idea how to create a shadow catcher.... Would you be willing to explore that and help me figure it out? A video would be cool!
Hi, Jake is there a way to put it in a video? And it stay in place like when we use the camera tracker to put any 3D object in the scene from what I can tell this will only work with stills. Also my subject I used is slightly animated but is only still when using this method any ideas? Thanks.
Awesome! A question. How can we link the uShape to the object in the uLader. For example link a moon to a planet. And the planet to a star. When spinning the star the planet moves, and the moon with the planet. Should be possible with target, or.
Those are done with Fusion templates. I am currently working on making a super powerful preset pack that will include drag and drop templates for most of the animations throughout the video. So stay tuned for that!
Great question! As far as I can tell they haven't added an ability to Export to a uCamera node but there is a way around this. What you can do is track the scene as normal, export to a 3D camera node, and then in the uCamera, connect all of the controls to the 3D camera. Does this make sense?
Impressive stuff. Someday I hope I can get comfortable doing stuff like this. Neat to see regardless of my abilities. Someday...Thanks for showing us the power.
that's amazing. you think they would make the 3d tracker features more user friendly like they have them in after Effects? And what about the rendering quality, close enough to unreal eventually? just speculating. a man can dream
They will always be improving, but I highly doubt it would get to the level of programs like Unreal or Blender. Fusion is a compositing program so their goal isn't to make it the best 3d rendering program if that makes sense.
@@JakeWipp yeah makes sense. well maybe i should've compared it more to something like the elements 3d plugin. if we get that level of fidelity that would still make me very happy.
it seems to really help me in terms of rendering when my vga card is not supported by blender V3. Hopefully in the final version, my vga is really supported to work in fusion with 3D object. Thanks for awesome info. ❤
If they will add external materials and all the existing 3D tools for editing USD Fusion will be a complete monster of a program. Looking forward to it 😊.
Once it is fully implemented with Shadow rendering and such it will replace the main 3D system in a lot of cases. It will be a fast way to render out 3D scenes with realistic materials!
USD is also a very quick way to bring 3d scenes into other programs & it allows versioning so you can't change a texture or a light & send the update to other people working on it on the fly so it's great for studios 😊

Okay but being able to use HDRIs to light things in fusion is a serious game changer!
Yes it is! Once they add features like rendering Shadows and Depth of Field it is gonna become WAY better for 3D!
Fusion studio standalone has supported HDRIs for decades now, but unfortunately they've removed it in Fusion inside Davinci Resolve.
Great video! I think I've seen all of the Resolve 18.5 videos but none of them covered 3D workflow. Looking forward to your course!
USD was the Way to Go for Compositors since you can update Scenes so much Quicker with that.

Hey quick question, all the usd files i find online dont have the textures baked in but in seperate files... how do i add those?!
That's typically the case with USD files. Make sure you are using a usdz, usdc, and usda. It could also just be a bug in the program at this point
Will the colors of the object also import from the usdc file ?
If the USD file is set up for then yes!
Hi jake can you make an ik rigging tool like the duik bessel it would be a game changer 🙏♥️

i know it's 4 months later, but you can import fbx to blender and export to USD with a total of 3 clicks
