That horn reminds me of the train horns that were used on the old art deco locomotives from the late 1950s, and the early 1960s. I love the sound of a mono tone horn!
Wow, that's it! The horn we grew up with just a few houses west of the tracks. I knew they sounded different than current horns. You know your stuff! Thanks for posting!
@@rahmanaridho the 575 was available only in a steam version. They never made an A575. I don't believe it was special order because it shows up in a lot of Leslie catalogs in the 40's through the 60's.
@@djstupido but the new queen Mary 2 have the air version because they no longer using steam, but they rise the note from A1 to C# ish because of the IMO law minimum frequency of 70Hz. So the new horn play at 70Hz while the original 575 was 55Hz
Yep those are a 85/110. The 165/110 I had mentioned previously are another set. Iv got those as well just haven’t made any vids with them. The 110 in that set was removed off the Algoma Enterprise
There both the same horn other than the finish. I ordered mine with a polished brass finish. The chrome finish is a $6500 option on that horn so I opted out lol. I personally like the brass finish better and it will also match my other horns. It is shipping out this week. Should be taking delivery of the F3 next week
Yep I know lots were made out of Bakelite. Muha actually made me a few not too long ago. There were other types made out of other materials though. The E2s are stainless steel leaves bolted together kinda like a M horn has
My friend has an A- 200-156 hes afraid to open up the back plate to check the diaframs because hes worried about messing it up to see if there ok before trying it out do you have any suggestions ?
So on my A200 it’s designated as A-200-156-M B. I do know that it’s bronze but could it possibly use a different material diaphragm? If so what would it be if you know?

The old streamliners, F units and E units usually.
This horn can also be traced back to the GG-1
Don't forget SP 4449.
Nice. A lot of the older locomotives on my model railroad wear those a200 and a125 horns.
Love it ❤ Grew up around the F7's and E8's in Park Ridge Illinois in the mid 70's ❤ I bought one years ago and still have it.
Awsome man. I love a good A200
GG1 now I know. Thanks..

It was also used on Pennsylvania S1 6100 & Southern Pacific GS-4 4449
Gosh I live these old Leslie horns. Reminds me of that exact horn on The Silver Pilot/Nebraska Zephyr
A200's were introduced in the mid 1930's. There are also A425's for ships, in addition to the A300's like you mentioned.
Thanks for the info Reed! Didn’t know they were introduced that early. And yes I didn’t think to mention the 425.
How about 575?
Is it widely available or just special order?

there were a set of these on a ship my great grandfather was the captain of
It doesn’t sound too loud in the video but speaking from someone who has heard this irl, these things are louder than the Nathan M5.
Great channel and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for the video
Wow 😳😳 that horn sounds like a ship horn or very close to it. Can you make a video of the noise difference by that huge lake. See how far it puts out
It does sound close too one! A200s we’re used on some rugs and small ships
The gg1 horn..
Me too It reminds me of train horns long ago 1960s 1970s
keep doing static test without the bell, it makes it easier to hear the horns startup
I agree!
I like this horn!
I’m thinking of buying two of these and mounting them on something. Any tips for a first time train horn owner?
Do you know where I can get a diaphragm for an A-200? I have an aluminum one with no diaphragm :-(
Sounds like a cruise ship horn!
The step up from this, the A300, which is louder and deeper, was definitely used on ships and freighters.
Almost sounds like the horn on the USS Iowa.
My God if I would have heard that thing anywhere near me I would have thought it was the rapture lol 😂 that thing is a beast though
Nice! Also I realized that the km horns u got are a km110/85 instead of a km165/110 that you said lol

I think I've heard this horn before--in the movies.
Beautiful horn. I have a bronze A200-156, but need a new/old diaphragm. Any thoughts or ideas? Can I make one...?
Very cool. NOS diaphragms are out there but pretty hard to find. Currently I don’t have any
Bakelite diaphragms? I thought they were made of phenolic? Maybe I’m thinking Wabco E2s. What do I know, you’re the horn king! Thanks for sharing bud.

I think those were used on NYC Niagaras
Wish they could make a little bit smaller

A200s are very simple internally. Shouldn’t be any issue opining it up and checking it. Just don’t cross thread the back cap when it’s screwed back on
weren't these horns used on the BALO class subs and other types of marine vessels?
Yes there was a variant of the A200 on those!
Nice video!! I love the horn.. can you pass me the measurements of the horn? Thanks you!

Hello, do you know if the sound of the A200 is louder in DB compared to wabco E2? I feel a difference in depth between the two, great video
I need to do a comparison vid of the two. The A200 may be a touch louder but not by much. The A200 does have a bigger diaphragm/ powerchamber
here comes a gg1
The first high speed train, the Electroliner, had one of these.
