- Dramatic footage shows the moment a Russian Su-25 attack jet was downed in a giant fireball by Ukrainian defenders over Donetsk region.
The missile hit the left wing and tail of the Russian combat plane - valued at up to £19.5 million - and it burst into flames.
Russian military sources confirmed the strike in the Pokrovsk vicinity of occupied Donetsk region. The pilot can be seen parachuting to safety.
This comes as footage has emerged of anti-Western war games between Russia and China, aimed at boosting naval cooperation between the powers.

@@BoraHorzaGobuchul No help at all would be a lot more distressing. Ukraine is not part of any alliance and yet they are receiving unprecedented amounts of military, financial, and civilian aid yet they keep begging for more free stuff as if anyone actually owes their corrupt country anything.
Equipment costs money and whatever is given empties the stores of the nation that's providing it. The USA is really the only country that give lots of surplus that is only costing them money in storage and send it en masse.
Everyone else has to replace and spend copious amounts of tax payer money to resupply and rearm. Most European countries can manage one, but not both at the same time because they also need to consider the needs of their own citizens.

@@paulietv2162 it isa very old bit of kit but it can shoot down ground attach fighters (the RU Frogger) reliably from about 3-4 km out and can take out Drones 3000 mtrs up in the sky . It's the radar targeting system that makes it so efficient. TEF

The Germans stopped making ammo for them as they got older (it's about a 30mm cannon x 2 ) and a Swiss company had sole manfr rights specifically for the autocannon ammo.
Now the Swiss are very moral people except when large sums of Gold are involved. So Swiss government came to arrangement with Ukrainian army that they'd only shoot up Bad Ru_ ss_ians*** with them ... full speed ahead on the ammo supplies (Likely under some form of US and German pressure ). I hope the Swiss are not ripping the Ukranians off blind at the sell price.. ** Any slav who speaks Ru is worthy of Smert if armed as far as Mr Z is concerned.

Imagine F16 with air to air rockets and a firing-range of 150-400km. Fireworks.
That's all you're going to do is imagine that because the F-16 doesn't have the combat radious and is at high risk of being shot down.

Missions are also not flown in straight lines so the actual distance to target will be less than 340 miles. The plane is also fairly easy to see on radar. In 1991 several F-16s in Strike Package 'Q' were shot down by SA-2s and SA-6s because they went without EW support. There’s a cool video of 'Stroke 3' dodging 6 SAMs and making it home when others didn't.

Why does the price of a weapon matter. I've never heard of a war being won by bankrupting your enemy or ruining their credit.
It's simple though. From whom does Ukraine buy, and I mean buy, its weapons and ammunition? From whom does Russia buy components for its tanks, planes, armored vehicles and munitions? No, not foreign countries but local and foreign industries. If Ukraine doesn't have money it loses the war. If Ukraine is not financed (by the USA or other countries) it will not have weapons or ammunition and it will lose the war.
The russian economy is being ruined by the sanctions and russia’s switch to a “war economy”. Russia isn’t stable enouh to support a war economy for more than a year or so. No wonder putin was desperate for a cease fire last month… 😂

My Drone was not cheap when I got it 6 years ago but the range on it is at most 500 metres in perfect weather conditions, what transmitters are these drones using to get such distances? Or, maybe time I bought a new one? But its only 6 years old and still works great...just wont go very far. I want a Ukrainian drone, they should start selling them with the explosives. That is a product I would certainly purchase...Ukraine, you need to set up a website to sell exploding drones, you would make a killing!

The missile came low and intercepted trailing the su25 frogfoot which have very poor rear visibility, the missile training smoke was never seen. The pilot was likely shocked when hit.
2 things to note. First they aren't flying low enough, or super high to avoid such an incident. Second, they are still flying into a sovereign nation and attacking innocent Ukrainian civilians.

I am unconvinced this is a weakness of the SU-25. It could have been a Russian firing a missile at an F16. The reality of the war in 2024 is that it's all about drones and missiles. The reason the British won the air war in the Falklands was that they had superior missiles. If anything, the Argentinians had superior aircraft, certainly on paper, but they didn't have the advanced missiles.

British are training more Ukrainians on the starstreak manpads .
