@@TravisDoesKayakFishing I couldn’t find this information on forums or other TH-camrs. You made it very clear on how much the distance were from the graph and real time.
Nice. It's great to know the temps, the structure, and see fish. Don't forget that the standard 2d chirp is awesome for the dropshot or roadbeds. People sleep on it now with DS and SV.
Great video man, just got side scan and am learning how to use it so this is helpful. I remember you commented on my early videos, never realized you had a kayak channel as well man, great stuff and congrats on getting past that 1k!
No worries man. Yeah, the 1,000 sub is an accomplishment for me. I have never shared anything like this before anywhere. Very exciting. I need to do a follow-up on this, but being completely honest, not a lot has changed. I still use it the exactly, and really exclusively this way.
@@TravisDoesKayakFishing question for you- when the unit maps the bottom does it save all that data when you power it off or do you have to remap every time you go out?
Definitely on my list of upgrades is to get a fish finder unit for the kayak, probably wait until next year though. Some good info on this unit, I've looked into this one before.
Thanks. It's about time to follow-up on it now that I have used it bunch. It was almost too early to really know lessons, but I do now lol. No kidding man. The maps I want way more than I realized.
That's a really good deal. I recently started using my electronics a little more, and a good down scan (clearvue) really does make a difference. Are you putting it on scotty rails? If you need the part numbers for the mounts, I can send them.
@@backyardfishing1 I do the same with mine. A Scotty mount transducer arm and a Scotty mount flush mount for the find. Sending over the links .. one sec
@@backyardfishing1 okay, not a shameless plug, but this video description has every part and links to most. Scotty mounts, battery, nuts and bolts. It should have everything. I did a little something different with the battery box after a while, but you get everything you could need to start in that description.
I never liked using my Garmin Striker 4. This one is fun to use. I do wish it had the contour maps already, but there is also something fun about mapping it yourself.
yea, man that was a great first impression... I don't have one on my kayak yet (still lol)... Talking to some guys though, it may be better to not have a touch screen because they have a tendency to go all wonky and there's no manual override to turn off the touch screen feature. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's just what I've heard from a couple guys. Again, you have chosen wisely... lol Nice review, Travis!!!
I never thought about that with the touch screens but it makes sense. I know for navigation it would be nice, but the zoom buttons help out a lot with that. If you get one, I would recommend staying away from the entry models. I didn't like my Garmin Striker 4 at all. This one is mid-range and I love it.
I need to go back and do a final thoughts on this. I have learned a lot on it, but still feel lacking so much just because of the maps not being on it.
Are you using a Pelican Kayak? I was nervous how the fins would hurt the transducer or clarity, but it looks perfectly clear? Thanks for the awesome review!!
Yeah, I use a Pelican Catch 110 HD II. I don't get any interference with mine. I have started using it heavily this year. The clearvue-down scan is where it's at on this unit for me.
Great question. Scotty 141 and Scotty 368 adapters. Both are on amazon. You will have to go to Lowes and get some bolts and nuts to use, but that is easy. Take the 368 part and get one that fits the hole.
I would have to set the gain manually pretty much every trip. Settings> Gain. I went down I think two maybe three. This allowed me to see soft vs hard bottoms more easily. I would adjust my noise settings each trip too. I would want less interference at or 1 in muddy, 2 in stained, 3 in two foot of visibly, and 4 in ultra clear. Turn surface noise off and just leave it there. No need to see that IMO. That's really it. I know someone else had a similar issue and it was their transducer cable having a problem, but it's likely just needing a tweaking or two as you are thinking.
I am not sure if it is part of the Vivid series. I don't think it its. It's 499 for this one but the imaging is awesome. The only downside to this is not having built in maps. It's can take some time to complete contour mapping from a kayak. Everything else is fire.
Most trips, I do. I think it's great for discovery structure, depth, suspended fish, and temperature. All the things most units do. I love the side scan. However, if I could do this again, I would spend a little more. I know that sounds crazy, but MAPS! Unless you have a motorboat, it takes forever to get contours mapped and it will never look the same as premade map. Let me say this, I would take this over any other sonar. I have tried in the sub 600 range. Hands down.
