Great score from the Klein collection! Perfect motor for the beast! Amazing how nice the motor looks after cleaning! Excited for the build and upcoming videos! Go Ficara Classic, keep moving forward!
I'll be following this build for sure. I trust you and your team will be tasteful and understated with this build. It deserves that at the very least, considering what it looked like initially...
John, you and Matt are ROCKSTARS! What an incredibly talented team to do this Targa justice! Would you consider painting it Bahama Yellow? You could call it Bahama Mama Dos!
Hello John; Firstly, the engine was a truly excellent choice. I have owned and worked on three 36hp VW Beetles. It was fascinating to see that taking the engine in and out is exactly the same in a 911. It's a great video. Have a lovely day.
15:43 there are probably known working options for alternate intercoolers, but the first thing i thought of when you showed the cutaway 959, was a VW Corrado g60 intercooler. Good luck. I'm enjoying this build.
Nice addition with the Turbo motor! I've seen intercoolers that are custom made to sit below a Ducktail, so could work for this application if youre keeping the 959 wing.
Great motor, John. Perfect choice. So glad that it fits. Shame that you may need to ditch the intercooler, but what the limo really needs is abundant, reliable hp, not necessarily boost.
Even if not in competition, this car needs to come full circle and do another One Lap. I think it would make Rocky very happy and probably piss Brock, Jr. off, lol!
Since yo have to make all rew reiforcements, you should try to find a period correct Targa arc (roll bar) for the middle, and 2 original doors with out the triangular windows to substitute the shortened ones; and then you will have better access to the rear seats, you will be able to make a propper reinforcement to the middle secction so it looks more original, a better transition between the doors and no special glass for the windows... And with this Turbo engine it will become the 911 TTT4S, TwinTargaTurbo4Seats...
Super fun project. Great that you got it from the Rudi Klein sale - you’re right it’s perfect. Can’t wait to see it running. What transaxle are you looking to run? Or did the car have a transaxle already?
@ the 915 would have been the same gearbox this turbo engine would have been paired with originally, right? So it should be able to handle 300 hp no problem.
The amount of turbo lag you get from long intercooler runners is negligible, a very rudimentary equation not accounting for inefficiency or for boost, a 3 litre at 6000rpm is inhaling 150 litres of air per second, a 75mm diameter x 1 metre long runner is only 4.5 litres.
I’m not a purist.. but I think it’s pretty cool that you’re keeping it all Porsche and Rocky’s “vision” alive…
The perfect engine for that car, I can't wait to hear it run!

Percussive Maintenance...... BFH! That cutaway 959 was straight PORN!!
I love the polka music. 👍👍. More people need to use polka in their videos
I absolutely love the nerdyness and passion that you have so present in every video. This type of content is what makes TH-cam so great
Can't wait to see this at cars and coffee.
John is back!
It's funny because I was just thinking the other day, "What's up with John and that crazy, Porsche limo build" and here it is.
10:08 I have an air hose nozzle with a 18 inch end on it for this reason.
Ficarra drops a video on Sunday afternoon. Football is gonna have to wait!
I'll be following this build for sure. I trust you and your team will be tasteful and understated with this build. It deserves that at the very least, considering what it looked like initially...
Super cool. And nice hat John, it was great to have you with us! 😀
What a fun project! I can't wait to see this as a judges ride at a future Lemons race 🍋
Certainly a possibility.
John, you and Matt are ROCKSTARS! What an incredibly talented team to do this Targa justice! Would you consider painting it Bahama Yellow? You could call it Bahama Mama Dos!
The story of this car is just growing.

Thanks! You have a lovely day as well.
@@FicarraClassicoh crap I cannot stop laughing
Lovely! Can’t wait to see the next steps. I can really imagine this painted in 959 Silver with Red interior ❤
cool update. good luck

Screw the crazy limo and turbo engine...lets talk about those little 962s!
Well spotted! We'll do a video on those in the near future.
2:11 oh my gosh! I'm so excited 🤗
I dunno, I think a fully tricked out Jetta ALH Diesel would be a good pick too...
So happy to see a new Ficarra classic video! Thank you for the upload and best of luck with the build!
Always glad to have another Ficarra video!
when completed that car will be better than when it was new!
That auction was amazing!!!!
So Rad you went with the correct engine.
Perfect Moter 🏁🏁

We’re definitely going to look into that.

Should get ahold of steve aoki and see what he remembers about his dads car and how to remember it

Air Conditioning is a must.
Great choice - project definitely needed the Turbo especially when you put the Decal down the side 😂
After I saw how cheap some 356's and porsche engines were going, as soon as I clicked on this vid I guessed "Klein auction engine". 😊
Did you have any assurance before buying that the engine wasn't seized-up??
Yep! It spins freely. We are going to do a full rebuild regardless.
@@FicarraClassic awesome! You'll get full-video views from me! Enjoying the series and love seeing Christopher's artwork on the 928!
Good to see the videos back. I like the engine choice. I think the Tea Tray tail would look better than the 959 tail.

I remember seeing that cutaway 959 at the Toronto auto show back in the day. Still the closest I've been to seeing a real one
That thing deserves a 912E motor! 😂
Too good of an engine for that bucket
Water to air intercooler, that'll get the purists 😂
It needs twin turbo s and twin intercoolers you already said you have lots of room for activity s
man, some of them engines sold for 5-15k... was nutty

We've got a 915 in there with the serial number 2904. So it's gotta stay.
@ the 915 would have been the same gearbox this turbo engine would have been paired with originally, right? So it should be able to handle 300 hp no problem.
Suggest a water to air intercooler
An air/water intercooler is another thing you could look into
The Paris Dakar 959 had the intercooler under the wing.
The intercooler can be moved. IT CAN ALSO BE RED!! 😂
Jared worked on honda rousey decently too, are we getting a limo off ?
Limoball!
Matt Armstrong's GT3 RS. Powertrain
is this the original 4door or a DIY mod from two cars ?!?
It’s one 911E Targa that was cut in half and stretched by a limo company back in the late ‘80s.
Now you need a car to put that turbo motor in. That limo is shot lol
Wasn't that on Craigslist in LA?
Yes. A long time ago. Also on Facebook Marketplace.
I’m still holding hope you’re gonna go on a journey to find the WEIRD SCIENCE PORSCHE 928!!
Oh, I am looking for it.
🤘👍👍
What’s the wheelbase on that abomination? It looks about the size of a current 5 series on the lift.

Pure garbage.
