  • Here's a simple walkthrough showing how to replace your starter. Thankfully this is a simple job that anyone can accomplish with simple hand tools. Here's the starter I purchased for my 2010 Corolla S. Hopefully this helps you out.

    Wouldn't by removing the ground as soon as you touch something metal the wrench act as a ground since your engine is grounded out and the body is grounded out and everything else is grounded out as soon as you touch your wrench from a positive to the body it grounds........ remove the positive side

    • @ShareXP
      @ShareXP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes you are correct! Remove the power (battery) starting with the negative (black) terminal, and positive (red) second. The reverse is true for hooking it back up, positive (red) first and negative (black) second . I'll pin this since I listed it incorrectly in my video, thank you.

      @@ShareXP well thank you! Glad I could be of assistance! Thanks for the video. Been working on cars since I was a kid, started with my grandpa.. and the TH-cam algorithm brought me back to the basics today and I realized I couldn't remember which one to remove first haha

      Wrong. To complete any circuit the ground would have to be connected to the battery.

    Thank you for your video. It allowed two old farts (77 and 80 years old) to change a starter. The key was the ratcheting wrench. Great advice!!

    If you don't have a ratcheting wrench but are willing to do a little more work, you can take out the transmission dipstick tube (two 12 mm bolts in two brackets) and fit a regular ratchet in to get the top bolt. Also allows you to torque it to spec once you're done if you're super specific like me ;)
    Great video!

    I’m wondering if it’s a three terminal starter solenoid or one starter terminal?

    I think that the starter is in a completely different place on a standard transmission. Nothing looks familiar.

      @@ShareXP no for me just hard to get to. Looked at. Another video suggested pulling radiator fan, 2 10mm bolts Had I gone that route first yep could’ve whipped through it. I realize amongst the mechanic Illuminati there’s a competitive “let’s see who can get the job done with the least amount of extras removed crowd”. Home handyman doesn’t need to prove that so much.

      The OEM starter has a 12mm nut on the positive terminal, some aftermarket starters (I got a Duralast reman from AutoZone) have 13 mm nuts on the positive terminal.
