My Uncle Wayne was a route driver for Tastykake in the 1960's. When we vacationed to our mom's side of the family in NJ, my dad would buy a box full of assorted Tastykake items. We would have them with sandwiches on our way home. Very few of them made it all the way to South Elgin, Illinois.
As a Philly guy, I grew up with tastykake when they were made from the greatest stuff on earth. When I go back to visit, I always bring some back to the Bay Area.

I can stop by my local Jersey Mike's (border of Palo Alto and Mountain View) and pick up one or two (they usually have butterscotch krimpets and some cupcakes). However, I do miss the variety on the East Coast. I miss the pies, donuts and pecan swirls.
As of this writing on June 9, 2021, Betty is almost 99-1/2 and still going strong! There have been online jokes for years that say that she DYED (her hair) peacefully at home.
