I really like this Ford Mustang with a 3.8 liter V6 engine that can make a decent horsepower five hundred plus horsepower is amazing keep up the great work and the car
Awesome! You and others have proven the 3.8 engine is worth keeping. Great looking and more than enough power to scare those weak block push rod oem 5.0
Mine is just at 400 HP right now
@@lowslo9287 what mods have you done ?
The 3.8 v6 is pushrod engine the 5.0 is a way better platform to make power the 3.8 like any other engine could be modified to make power but it will never be nor will it ever fill the shoes of the mighty 302 v8

Subbed. Im doing it to my 3.8 but with 2 turbos this week!
how did it go
Ayeee poee
Ayye Poe I'm a fellow youtuber looking to do some crazy stuff with my v6 what turbo kit are you using and where can I find it
Your turbos are too big but i am still subbed to watch the learning process. I wish you luck. Since noone ever gave me support to carry on. Just a TON of hate.
Aye what’s up Poe!
Really cool seeing people doing things a little bit different than mainstream. Love it!
I'm considering picking one of these up as a project car, and from what I've seen, plenty of aftermarket go-fast-parts for these things, which I like.
I've got an 01' and my buddy was telling me about this. Had to look it up. You're legit!
This just gives me even MORE drive to build a 3.8(or even snatch a 4.2 from the yard) this time around. Iv owned two new edge gt's and two foxes(one built 306 and the other was a stock 2.3) and iv really been looking into these engines since I got an 05 SS Impala with GM's supercharged 3.8. I'm gearing up to get another new edge now 🤘
#NewEdge 🤘
Great job on the build! I just picked up a 2002 v6. Looking to do a similar build.
My Congratulations on you're car built & my respects. Love sn95 s . Yours is awesome thanks for your faith on 3.8 . Great results and something different and fun to drive .👍👍👍 ✌🤙🌞😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁✅
Definitely subbed. needed power ideas for my 3.8 drift build and i didn’t know u could stroke these engines with a 4.2 crank appreciate it
You can also just buy a 4.2 f150 motor and swap it in.
@@danielwilliams214 i have a mildly built 5.7 sbc i think I’m going to drop in it at the beginning of the year for the time being and then I’ll go from there but that’s a good idea as well
Hey everyone ! I'm going to be putting together a couple more videos in the next week or two. One is going to be a FAQ response video, so if there is anything specific you want to know, go ahead and drop it in the comments and I'll answer in the video. I already have about 15 typed out that I get asked a lot.
Is the earth flat?? lol jk..
I've done an ls swap in my nissan and I have av6 mustang that was my first car back in high school I was going to ls swap it aswell but I think it's good to do something different and this video has pushed me to build my v6 nice job btw
@Edgar Joel eww no I despise coyote engines , I'm not a ford fan i dont feel the need to bleed blue I only have that car cause it was my first car besides for the price of a running coyote swap i could already have done a turbo LS, besides pushrod engines are my cup of tea if not an LS a nice 351w or hell even the slow v6 that's in mine already is what I would built over doing an over priced coyote swap anyways I love you're build and if you chose to go that route i wish you good luck the day coyotes can be had for 300 bucks at the junkyard might be the day I would try it but not a day earlier lmao for real though if I where you I'd keep the v6 forever especially in that type of hp your pushing
Just found your channel. Was looking for 3.8 Turbo stuff. I know Dave from Super Coupes Unlimited. He builds some awesome engines. I'm a Thunderbird SC guy since the late 90's.
I've since moved on to a 03 cobra. But yeah Dave built the 4.2 that was in this car
Beautiful Mustang! Great job bro🙏🏾

Keeping my 3.8 now❤
Do some POV driving would be cool real inspiration for this build
UnTamed Mustang thanks man I’m have to check your channel out
Exhaust leaks are common on these, especially if you have AC. AC drips on the exhaust manifold
3/8 Elbow tube epoxied to the reservoir hole on the firewall and have the drip not fall on anything.
Bcz I have the 3.8 now and trying to figure out what direction to go
Got my TT 3.8 v6 done on my profile. But i have no idea how much power it makes.
Clutch in stall is because of MAS air meter and how the intake piping is run.
It did the same with a couple of different MAF positions. The theory was it was related to front O2 sensor turbulence due to the position of the bungs in the headers
Good build man i just want a basic super or turbo nothing big plus 300HP is all im looking for
Either route will make 300 pretty easily
Awesome
Honestly every straight 6 and 3.8l ford or buick was legit back in the early 00s
Got a 97 im putting a m90 supercharger on and going to crank the boost up tillcshe screams
Sweet.
Do you have a complete list of parts, headers, exhaust, etc that you have done? Great video. Thinking of doing some of this to my old man’s car after he passed to keep it in the family but taking it out of the old man vibe!
All of the turbo kit was custom stuff really. Headers and crossover were a home made deal from a guy that used to make them called "TMA Turbo". Everything else was pieces together. 1000cc Fuel injector development injectors, twin 340 lph Deatchwerks pumps in a cobra tank. Stock lines. Turbonetics 6665 turbo. Tial 38mm wastegate. Tial blow off valve. Tread stone 3.5 intercooler. SCT BA5000 MAF. That's the main pieces of it as far as the turbo kit goes
SAINt JHN @ the endish 👌
what I want to know is what is the stock long block good for? a junk yard stock honda K24 ( which I am planning to swap into a new edge) will hold 600 without ever taking the valvecover off.
400 to the wheels roughly
So when you did the "first" build with the first turbo and you were running 11psi was with with stock internals or forged, I have a 3.9 04 mustang and wanting to do some bolt on and a turbo as well but not sure what all I'm going to need to replace before I get to the turbo
That was with a stock 3.8 motor.
So if I put a decent turbo kit on my pretty much stock manual V6 , it’s not gonna destroy or blow anything up pushing 300hp give or take ? Rear end will handle it ? Internals? Or I’m considering just a small amount of nitrous not what I want but maybe easier?
Motor will handle it all day. The stock 7.5 rear is pretty questionable however
🔥🔥🔥🔥
What about now?
🔥🔥🔥
I bought one for 800 it’s it’s great condition turbo tips
Budget first. Probably need 2-3k to do it correctly
This man has my dream build. I hope he has another way of being contacted I have so many questions
Dm me on IG @slow_six
My v6 has 166000 miles and it has 0 issues except for an oil leak that I need to find. I want add twin turbos on it, would it be safe or should I just rebuild the engine with forged internals? This will be my first build so I’m kinda new to this.
It would probably be fine, but no way to say for sure. That's a decent amount of miles. Could always check the compression on the motor before you started a build to make sure it's healthy
I got a 351 Cleveland pretty tricked out from a Torino I rolled off the interstate two winters back...I wonder how much trouble it would be to squeeze into one of those pony cars?
Can't imagine it would be too hard. The 3.8 v6 is smaller than a 351 for sure
also what’s the estimated amount of money put into the engine/performance on this 3.8l v6. was the money:hp gains ratio worth it?
Over the years probably 8-9k. I considered doing a coyote or 4valve 4.6 swap but it would have cost more. Coyote would make less power. 4valve would make similar (supercharged) but be more money.
I have a question looking to do this, I have the motor out, I have a 4.2L i got at the junk yard. I've read some different things. I was just going to use the 4.2's internals-Crank, pistons, Rods? I believe the rods are the same in the 3.8 and the 4.2. What about the balancer? Do i need to change that as well?
Pistons are the same and rods are different. Kind of depends on what you're doing. Stock rebuild, just drop the 4.2 in. Built motor requires custom pistons. Balancer may need changed depending on what year your car is. 01-04 3.8 used internal balance, and all 4.2 are internal balance. The 99-00 3.8 is external balance and the balance has weights on it
I just got a 2000 v6 for like $1500. Im not sure if its a preferance thing but wouldnt it be ideal to eventually get a v8 and possibly throw a turbo on it later on? Or is super charging a v6 worth it
It's more cost efficient to boost whatever you already have.
Kind of a newb to Fords but my wife has an 02 V6 Convertible she doesn't drive anymore. I've been debating suping it up. Is that the F150 intake or the Windstar, or something else? Do you replace just the upper or lower too?
Windstar intake from 96-98 van. You just replace the upper
Can you tell me exactly what you used in your build with the 4.2l f150? Cause I would love to bore out my engine and give a 4.2 badge?
The easiest option is to find a junkyard 4.2 from a f150.
This was a motor built for boost - it had wiseco pistons that are custom order, scat 6.125" length rods, and a stock 4.2 ford OEM crank that was turned 0.010
Is a 2000 v6 mustang good to build up even if it not a gt? Have deal and I wanna see if it’s good
Depends on your budget and goals
i just bought my first car n it’s this mustang but it’s an automatic sadly, i do wanna make it my own by adding mods on it and so on just so it’s fun driving around n then eventually upgrading to a manual
So sick rn I got a built 4.0 with a procharged but I lowered the compression like you did and the procharged is maxed out so I’m on here cuz I’m gonna turbo my car soon! Haha gonna push over 20 cuz the procharged ain’t shit anyways what injectors you running???
20 psi will be rowdy. I was running 1000cc injectors, but I'd recommend 1300 if you want to do E85
@@Slow_Six I have a stage 2 snow performance water meth kit right so I’m gonna stick to pump gas, right now I got 60lb injectors I’m gonna see if they can hang then I’ll get bigger ones probably the DW 1000cc ones EV so if I don’t make the power I’ll go e85 but hopefully I won’t need to, yeah I wanna make atleast close to 500 wheel you like
@@noahloera7328 1000 will likely suffice for pump 93 but you will run out of injector for E85. 20 psi is also likely not safe for pump fuel
@@Slow_Six that’s what the water meth is for, it spayed based off the amount of boost and keeps spraying it’s like running e85 for a certain boost range
What year f-150 did you get the crank shaft and intake manifold out of
Not sure of the exact years. It just needs to be from a 4.2 liter motor
Do you use gt45 turbo for your mustang!? I have a 2004 v6 mustang 40th anniversary with 193hp but what kind of turbo I need!?
It was a turbonetics 6665
So what all was in it before everything was original other than the twin turbo on the 3.8?
Single turbo. I had a single turbo kit on a stock motor 3.8 for a few years. This particular video was a built motor 4.2 and same turbo setup.
What fuel rail are you running? I'm struggling to find any options
Stock rails
Is there anyway I can contact u in messages. Got couple questions about the windstar intake conversion
I have an 02 3.8 new edge. I want to slap a turbo on it. Do I need to do a ton of engine work or do the stock internals hold up pretty good? Do I need to do transmission work?
You can turbo it on stock transmission and motor and it will hold up alright. Keep it under 400 horsepower.
Mine lived for almost 5 years at 340 wheel on the stock motor and T5 transmission. The trans was starting to make some noise towards the end though lol
@@Slow_Six thank you so much man. Your build really made me fall in love with my v6 again. I was starting to regret my buy. Thank u so much for your knowledge. You made me realize that the 3.8 is really something else 👌👊
is the 4.2 better N/A and stock internals than the 3.8 as well ?
Not sure what you mean?
Hey I been working on the same thing could you give me a link for the rods having trouble finding them?
Supersixmotorsports has a lot of the internals I’m planning on buying, I’m having trouble finding the fuel injectors and a turbo kit
Do you have to change your back axle when you do that to a V-6
It has an 8.8 rear end in it yes

Hey what website did you get your 4.2 crankshaft from I’m looking for one I’d love to talk to you about the car
eBay. Junkyard.
With the 10 psi, did you have to do another mods to the engine?
No. Totally stock motor, with bigger injectors and fuel pump
That's a 3.9/4.2 high out put V6 motor, I have the same motor that I study like daily on different things to do to it so believe that.
Even on the inside of the throttle body it says 4.2l
I hate when people don't know what they need to..
What? The 3.8/3.9/4.2 are all essentially the same motor. The 4.2 is a different crank/rods and was originally used in F150 trucks.
They are all "Essex" code motors though.
Either or.
The 3.8 is probably the worst one
The high out put 3.9 an 4.2 are the 2 better motors to go with
Least their not 4-Bangers like the older LX fox body mustangs have, I had one an a civic coulda even beat it lol
Also
Unsure about block an internals in block for now but a 3.9 an 4.2 are identical from heads up Sept the intake manifold, other than that the heads, intake manifold plate an throttle body are same including internals only differance in 3.9 an 4.2 in the V split intake throttle body is positioned in front center the 3.9 is same but on the side instead
Where I can find the kit of the turbo because I go to eBay and only come out twin turbo
No one makes a kit anymore
How was it as a daily driver and can you push more power
It's okay as a daily. Probably wouldn't want it to be my only car though. I drove 60 miles round trip for work every day
4th doesn't whine because its direct drive
I put my f150 intake instead of the wind star on my mustang and was wondering would doing the cam, springs, and plates be best for my next mod I don’t want to destroy my car but I want more power. I don’t have a dual exhaust that’s my next mod this upcoming week.
A cam will net you low 200 wheel HP. Typically you're better off just saving for some sort of boost.
Okay I saw a twin turbo kit for a t3/t4 turbo is that any good or should I try for better type of boost.
@@colterbutler4006 is it one of the eBay ones ? Those are junk

What tool was used to tune the computer ?
SCT tuner.
Can u explain how u did the intake swap have the same one trying to do a swap my self
There are a bunch of write ups online. Look up "Windstar intake swap"
@MAVERICKHAWKM55 it won't crack. People have pushed 25 psi of boost through them. A lot of newer cars have plastic manifolds from the factory
It looks like the intake on the F-150 4.2L. I am pretty sure that the truck intakes are aluminum.
@MAVERICKHAWKM55 I drive my car in SC in the middle of summer. The plastic is fine.

They had a 4.2 option from 1998-2008. Forged pistons have to be custom ordered as there aren't any off the shelf options.
The typical setup is 4.2 crank, 6.125" length scat h beam rods, and custom pistons.
Do you know a website where I can order the custom Pistons?
