Does Lexus Self-Driving Stack Up to Tesla and GM? Self-Driving Showdown!

  • I take a closer look at the best self-driving technology Lexus offers in my 2023 Lexus NX350H. We'll dive deep into the nitty-gritty details of the system, examining its adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic lane change assist, and much more.
    I also compare its performance to the industry-standard Tesla autopilot system and General Motors Super Cruise system. We'll examine how the Lexus system handles real-world driving scenarios, from stop-and-go traffic to high-speed highway driving in both clear and rainy weather conditions to see which autonomous system takes the crown.

    I have the 20 NX and it has the adaptive cruise control with lane keep (not as advanced as 23, but still great) - I love it! It’s the perfect road trip car. Been on multiple road trips with it and it’s an amazing feature. Makes road trips a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable!

    The title to this video says the Lexus 3.0 Safety System is self-driving. It is NOT a self-driving system that you can compare to the Tesla. I wouldn't call adaptive cruise control "Self-Driving" unless it can do everything a human driver can. But the Lexus adaptive cruise control is much better than so many others I've driven. I tried the subaru one a while back when I was on a 7 hour road trip and it was horrible. The lane keep function was on but it kept bouncing me left and right inside my lane and it was a disaster.

  • @bobdbeck
    @bobdbeck ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The lane change assist did not work (unavailable) when you were driving in the left lane because the car in the center lane was too close for the Lexus to move over safely. Note when you passed that vehicle then the lane change feature worked. I have a '23NX and find the self driving assist feature is miles ahead of the system I had in my 2018 Honda Accord Touring, although that one was fairly good at the time. The Lexus system keeps better lane and distance control and I've driven 10 miles at a time just touching the steering wheel when prompted.

    Thankyou so much for the great review. Your explanations of what the system was doing and the comparisons between the systems was very informative. I would like to buy a Lexus product and only wish that the self driving feature tied into the GPS so it would know not to take the exit and that the driver could get a longer time before it nagged you to put your hands on the steering wheel. I wonder if future updates to the system for the features I would like is possible in the future.

    @cars with sonduren: Wait a minute, did you say the 2023 NX has lane change assist as a standard feature? I just received delivery of my 23 RX350 luxury trim and I don’t see the lane change assist listed as part of the Lexus safety systems 3.0 which should be standard. I haven’t been on the highway to try it and see maybe it’s there or not. The lane change assist looks kool in your video though. Also, how did you get you dynamic navigation to show in 3D format in the Lexus NX? Is that android auto connect?

The technology came with the car is locked for the year model. Unlike Tesla, their self driving is continuously updated thru OTA. Does Lexus sanction driving with hands off the steering wheel? The documentation for the U.S. version of the NX calls it a "hands on" feature and says that both hands should be kept on the steering wheel. Is the version for Canada different? Has documentation been revised? Things can go very wrong very quickly when there are confusing lane markings such as lane lines left over from highway construction diversions that don't match the current lane positions. The driver must remain alert all the time to verify that the vehicle is following the correct lane lines and not obsolete lane lines that lead to oblivion or more frequently when lane line are not visible such as when they are mostly worn away. This is a wonderful feature for reducing fatigue when carefully used. Sure ... take your hands off the steering wheel for a momentary stretch but put them back on the steering wheel quickly.

    Hi, I have a 2024 nx 350h premium which does not have lane change assist. My car has only lane keeping assist. It is disappointing not to have lane change assist function like your car. I found that NX Premium 2024 now has lane change assist and 360 degree mirror only $1,100 extra. I am sorry not to have lane change assist.

    Self drive is the incorrect term and is misleading. The misuse of that term leds to people trying to use the systems in a way in which they are not designed.

    • @MukisaSS
      @MukisaSS 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Exactly, the manufacturers simply need to change or add on "assist" because that's how the system is intended to work. It's assisting the driver with the task of driving.

    • @oddsman01
      @oddsman01 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MukisaSSI believe most manufacturers go out of their way not to call it self driving? I’m not sure about GM, but Lexus calls it LSS 3.0., Toyota TSS 3.0.
      Brake, accelerate, keep centered, steer around corners, parallel park, change lanes and in some cases, require only eyes forward in stop and go traffic, i.e. no pedal or steering wheel input needed, BUT it’s not Waymo, so stay awake! , as a name or in a title sounds a little long to me. I’m willing to overlook the self driving tag.

    I absolutely love how my Tesla will decide to change lanes to go around slower Vehicles when it's clear. Also how it will change Lanes to get over to the on-ramp of a different freeway when need be, I've watched it do multiple quick changes to complete complicated scenarios. Just blows my mind. Something that you wouldn't experience on a single day rental use. The more videos like this I see the more I love my Tesla.

    These are only the most basic levels of assisted driving and are still far from self-driving. Self-driving can at least automatically enter and exit ramps based on GPS, automatically follow cars, automatically overtake, and automatically avoid obstacles.

    This feature is dangerous on any car. When driving the inside of a curving country road where the lines are faint, there is a great risk of the computer giving up and it'll veer right into the oncoming lane. I'm amazed how this feature is legal.
    Better really watch it when driving the outside of a curving country road, because an oncoming car could be one of those ones where that feature is used.

      Yea same here... I own both of these systems and it's a night & day difference if you compared to fsd. The free autopilot in teslas, not even fsd, used to do this or even better yearsss ago.. Now if you talk about fsd.. My fsd the other day even noticed a crow on one lane road on a rainy day, calculated the speed n direction the bird was walking to and made a mili second decision to maneveour around the bird just in time without scaring other cars on the road... I only drive lexus when I wanna just slowly cruise around with better ride comfort tho. Not for auto driving.

      I get spoiled by Tesla FSD. It becomes difficult when shopping for hybrid or ice car as backup vehicle for our family. No other car makers can offer self driving to the level like Tesla.
