    I have the 20 NX and it has the adaptive cruise control with lane keep (not as advanced as 23, but still great) - I love it! It’s the perfect road trip car. Been on multiple road trips with it and it’s an amazing feature. Makes road trips a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable!

      100% and that is the real use case here and so that’s why I really do stand by saying the tech gives you 95% of the value that the Tesla provides.

    Self drive is the incorrect term and is misleading. The misuse of that term leds to people trying to use the systems in a way in which they are not designed.

    • @MukisaSS
      @MukisaSS 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Exactly, the manufacturers simply need to change or add on "assist" because that's how the system is intended to work. It's assisting the driver with the task of driving.

    • @oddsman01
      @oddsman01 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MukisaSSI believe most manufacturers go out of their way not to call it self driving? I’m not sure about GM, but Lexus calls it LSS 3.0., Toyota TSS 3.0.
      Brake, accelerate, keep centered, steer around corners, parallel park, change lanes and in some cases, require only eyes forward in stop and go traffic, i.e. no pedal or steering wheel input needed, BUT it’s not Waymo, so stay awake! , as a name or in a title sounds a little long to me. I’m willing to overlook the self driving tag.

    • @addanametocontinue
      @addanametocontinue 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely not self-driving, more like driving assist. However, when writing a title comparing 3 different systems and Tesla being an actual self-drive, you gotta settle on something.

    The quality of the automated control systems, especially in traffic jam situations, will become a bigger and bigger factor for people in making their car buying decision. If you did a video series comparing all the major brands’ systems and rating them using some standardized method, I think you’d get a ton of views. Thanks again and will subscribe!

    The lane change assist did not work (unavailable) when you were driving in the left lane because the car in the center lane was too close for the Lexus to move over safely. Note when you passed that vehicle then the lane change feature worked. I have a '23NX and find the self driving assist feature is miles ahead of the system I had in my 2018 Honda Accord Touring, although that one was fairly good at the time. The Lexus system keeps better lane and distance control and I've driven 10 miles at a time just touching the steering wheel when prompted.

    I wouldn't call adaptive cruise control "Self-Driving" unless it can do everything a human driver can. But the Lexus adaptive cruise control is much better than so many others I've driven. I tried the subaru one a while back when I was on a 7 hour road trip and it was horrible. The lane keep function was on but it kept bouncing me left and right inside my lane and it was a disaster.

    Lexus and GM Supercruise are BOTH level 2 semi-automomous driving features. They aren't capable of full self driving just for those to know. The super cruise has eye tracking which always monitors to make sure you are paying attention while driving. This feature is great my opinion rather than getting prompted to touch the wheel to ensure you're there.

      If you really want a mind blowing drive, hop in an FSD equipped Tesla, sit back and watch the car make left and right turns, stop and go at stop signs and traffic signals, avoid objects, change lanes with no input from the driver, maneuver around parked vehicles, drive you up to the door at Walmart, and will park itself when you tell it to.
      No comparison at all. Hopefully more manufacturers will be able to develop a comparable system. The driving world will be much safer.

    Can this self driving be updated in the future thru OTA (over the air) update? The problem with conventional car makers is that once you bought the car. The technology came with the car is locked for the year model. Unlike Tesla, their self driving is continuously updated thru OTA. A 2019 Tesla’s self driving is just as capable as 2024 Tesla with software updates that is pushed to all Tesla thru OTA updates. Just like your 4 year old iPhone have the same iOS as brand new iPhones.

    I'd rather have the older system from 2021 because it's compatible with Comma 3X. Comma 3X running sunnypilot or frogpilot blows this out of the water. It stops at red lights and stop signs too. It set the semi-autonomous cannonball record beating the old record set by tesla autopilot.

    Be very careful if you decide to keep the active cruise on approaching stoplights, etc (NOT recommended.) If the car in front of you is solo and decides to turn, the active cruise radar will give the all-clear to resume at your most recent cruise setting. In other words, if you had your cruise set to 70mph on the freeway and let the car bring you to a stop at the end of an exit ramp, and the car in front of you turns: the cruise will suddenly accelerate to 70mph!!

    Thanks for the information! Appreciate your detailed review. I'm kind of disappointed, as I shop for a new car, though. Beyond the lane change feature, my 2018 Audi has all of these. I'm sure they're more refined now, but was kind of hoping for something similar to Super Cruise or BMW's eye monitoring system.

      NoNot only noisy, but rough riding. First thing I do when I buy a car with run flats is swap em out for regular all season Michelins. Gtg. Also stay away from the all seasons that have that v shaped tread as those are noisy as well.

    Does Lexus sanction driving with hands off the steering wheel? The documentation for the U.S. version of the NX calls it a "hands on" feature and says that both hands should be kept on the steering wheel. Is the version for Canada different? Has documentation been revised? Things can go very wrong very quickly when there are confusing lane markings such as lane lines left over from highway construction diversions that don't match the current lane positions. The driver must remain alert all the time to verify that the vehicle is following the correct lane lines and not obsolete lane lines that lead to oblivion or more frequently when lane line are not visible such as when they are mostly worn away. This is a wonderful feature for reducing fatigue when carefully used. Sure ... take your hands off the steering wheel for a momentary stretch but put them back on the steering wheel quickly.

    Awesome video Sonduren! I test drove a rental 2021 Camry with adaptive cruise and I loved it so much. Only thing I noticed is that it's not the best at taking the more sharper highway turns, does your UX ask you to take control when the highway gets more curvy?

    • @carswithsonduren
      @carswithsonduren  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Alan! There is actually a setting for the NX that allows you to dictate if it should slow slightly during sharper turns or keep the same speed. It’s been solid even around more curvy highway turning.

    Thankyou so much for the great review. Your explanations of what the system was doing and the comparisons between the systems was very informative. I would like to buy a Lexus product and only wish that the self driving feature tied into the GPS so it would know not to take the exit and that the driver could get a longer time before it nagged you to put your hands on the steering wheel. I wonder if future updates to the system for the features I would like is possible in the future.
