Suggest to think about a electric switch that cuts off the light in the back container room as soon as the door is closed (like in a refrigerator)
Avoids the waste of energy when the light is left on since there is no window to see it from outside.

I have one suggestion: where your storing your gasoline, you may want to have a vent to the outside to minimize contained fumes. Lower explosive risk, prevent people getting dizzy, and prevent your stored food from smelling and tasting like petrol.

Everything combustible should be outside in a metal locker with a stout lock. Time for a trip to the second hand store (or a phone call). Storing flammables like gasoline and oil next to food stuffs is strictly forbidden virtually everywhere in the world that has occupancy rules.

@@wolfgangfroehlich7786 I believe that is why they designed the roof in this fashion. In addition to providing shade to most of the container, there is a natural convection flow of air across the container as the top roof heats and up the container roof stays cool. Very creative design on many levels 😊

Nice work guys and great editing. mondays i always look forward for your videos :D
    Two suggestions / improvements:
Maybe build a pully system with a weight to close the door on it's own. Just a screew and some rope to the inner top of the door, a little hole through the wall, a pully behind it and there suspends a small weight (sand filled steel pipe with hook), which slides throug a hole in the framing and always pulls the door shut. That way no additional space is wasted and with a little shelf for the weight when the door is open, you also have unlimited access if you need it to stay open.
Second one would be a vent system that pulls air into the storage part (vent at bottom hight) and vents it out over the workbench. That way your stored goods get fresh air, the fumes from the gasoline get directly pulled out, nothing gets air fried during summer and moisture can't build up during rainy season, which prevents rust and mold. With that maybe also seal the bolts on the top of the container to prevent rust and moisture leakage (silicone, grease, salvaged old motor oil or a rubber gasket from old bike tires might work).
    Keep it up👍🏼

Personally I do not like mixing tools and general storage with food storage. Even if in separate areas within the same container. Security, hygiene, cleanliness, animals, rodents, heat/cold/humidity, spills or accidents. For now safely stored, easily accessible, removes congestion in main kitchen. I much prefer to see a 20 ft bulk food storage container added near or connected to the main kitchen.

Thumbs up! Small suggestion for when you restock your scubby-sponges: maybe test other materials other than the green plastic scrubby-stuff (which is what it looks like you've got there and is really horrible for turning into microplastics). When I saw it I thought since you're a living lab testing more sustainable solutions, it makes sense to suggest this test. There are coconut fibre scrubbies that work great and are supposed to biodegrade/compost. Maybe do a test with one of these against steel wool, your current sponges and a few other options like a boar-hair scrubbie-brush? You could test them for durability (how long before it breaks down or becomes too stinky to use in the kitchen). To judge the impact you could analyse the production streams that create these products as well as their post-use waste-or recycling streams. It's definitely something that people can apply in their own homes quickly and something not enough people think about ...or it's something they DO think about but it's in a situation where the people who decide about spending are reluctant to spend more for what seem like more environmentally friendly options. Tonnes of ethically minded culinary professionals would love to hear from your kitchen staff after they've put these tools through a few months of testing. And with the larger amount of people you are cooking for every day, it's a fair-enough sized test to be able to count on the results after a few months of testing.

Good job, guys! I hope you will paint the outside of the container too because the rust looks terrible.

FYI - If you are planning on expanding solar - even for high power stuff like welding etc: Get a Deye 12kw inverter. Does 3 Phase, 15kw solar peak, does batteries and has MPPT strings. Goes for 2.5-3k. Get in touch if you want some

It is so satisfying to watch your videos. You guys are so very competent and resourceful!
The one question I still have after watching you since season 1, have you considered making a roof tile mold for precious plastic? A curved shape (just like the Portuguese tiles), to make the kitchen roof stop leaking? And perhaps they might even accommodate the warping you are observing, if you are generous enough with the overlap. Those flat panels with minimal/no overlap will never work... But a real tile shape might!

Ideas: ventilation inside the storage area wouldn't be good for the stored objects? And the lungs.
Like, a small metal/Precious Plastic vent that allowed air to flow.
Also, put some bay leafs inside the rice, and dry aromatic plants around to keep insects at bay and your dry food protected.

I would add some rain gutters and collect the water for vegetable watering, fire extinguishing, or direct it to some other use like showering or to feed the 'rain barriers' that were built with the mimosas

For more functional use, your vice rear jaw clamping face should always be in line with the front edge of the workbench. This enables the vertical clamping of longer items, like pipes, in the vice, down the front of the workbench.

Very cool. Regarding mounting the vice, I'd suggest the rear fixed-jaw should be in-line with the edge of the bench - this means you can secure really long/tall things in the vice. :)

If you want to optimize the storage further, add some ceiling storage for light items. You could toss things like spare gloves, ropes, extra batteries, small lesser used tools, etc.

Loving the videos! I would really really REALLY suggest that you guys get some chickens. They are really cute, cheap and useful. If you do I would recommend only getting hens as the males complicate things. Somewhere in the range of 5-10 chickens should be plenty, that's around 5-10 eggs per day! Chicken feed is cheap and they get a lot from just roaming around and eating bugs, highly recommend.
This is quite a bit harder but getting some bees would be incredible. They are such workhorses for the planet and not to hard to maintain. (PS:Maybe get the fruit trees up and running first!)

I thought a floding door wouldve been perfect for the container, like a 2 or 3 panel folding door to save space whilst being functional. Love the videos!

As someone who works in the harbor… never paint a shipping container. The paint on them is very toxic to withstand rust and seas so you should not sand it, and also paint will not stick on it at all. The paint will all flake off in a few months and make a big mess.
