    Nice build and nice job stick welding

    Welder David did a amazing job, 30$ an hour is a very common rate almost everywhere. Just not everyone who asks 30$ per hour may not be as skilled as David. I'm convinced this crane will last you a long time. No paint? Nah who needs paint.😂
    I'm gonna borrow the gantry crane for a very tedious clutch and engine job in the future.

      David did an amazing job! I think he is worth way more than $30 an hour! He is a heard worker outside of welding too. As soon as the crane was done Dad wanted to paint it. We have a can of black paint we can use. I am sure it would work great for your engine and clutch and will definitely save strained backs!

    Turned out nicely! I bet this is one of those "we should have done this ages ago" builds. ;)

      Most definitely! You'll see it in use late next week and we wondered how we ever lived without it.

    Not anything wrong with overbuilt stuff....good call on the gussets! It's an invaluable piece of equipment for a shop! Strong work lads

    I had the same problem with my caster wheels hitting the bolts so I put the bolt heads on the bottom and nuts on top

      That is probably how we should have done it. 😊

    Excellent job Boys A++ indeed! I just wanted to follow up about what you said about hoisting with hydraulics and your crane won’t creep! Which is very important obviously but I have hoisted with cranes excavators and backhoes and I wish I could say that they are 100% safe but no even a conventional crane can be temperamental in very cold or extremely hot temperatures but anyway I bet your all happy you can keep moving forward on the crawler 😀🇨🇦

    Kind of hard to believe you being in the construction business that you didn't have a crane before this! They are handy, we've had one a long time. As for paint, don't bother. That way you can always remove the winch and store your gantry outdoors.

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's a great idea but it's going to be hard to convince Dad not to paint it. In our old shop we had a steel building with a ton and a half Gantry crane. It was fixed so only usable in a small work area. This is a big Improvement.

      How ironic! Your dozers have gotten smaller, and yet Your crane to work on them has gotten bigger!😂

    Surprised you didn't put in plates between casters and beam to spread the load. But you've used it since so you've proved your choice.

      I think we will do a few "field" upgrades like the one you mentioned. We wanted to put it through a few paces before it gets paint. 👍

    Awesome shop addition! A gantry crane to build a gantry crane. I couldn't visualize that - something like what came first: the chicken or the egg?

    Your 1/2 inch drill looks like my dad's Montgomery Ward 1/2 inch he bought around 1953. I still have it.

      I have a match to it as well and it's a wrist breaker for sure. But it has plenty of power!

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That's exactly what it is! The majority of my grandfather's tools are powercraft from Montgomery Ward.

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      We all learned the hard way to have two people hold it and one on the end of a sizable cheater pipe. I think that drill has twisted the wrists of three generations now. 🤣

    Overbuilt or built just right? Reminds me of an ancient Chinese proverb….. any man can build a bridge, but only an engineer can build a bridge that barely stands

    Those look more like $50 per hour welds

  • @carbie5614
    @carbie5614 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Excellent job, I see the vertical plates on top across the 2 pipes on each side welded to the pipes and to the large gusset. The only over build I would do is add gussets on the inside of the top of all 4 of the pipes to the bottom of the top plate. I think it might stiffen the side to side wiggle a little and add to the tensile strength of the connection of pipe to the top plate. But like you said, I always over build also.

    • @lifeafterourloss
