I bought a kit of those half moon keys at harbor frieght. Typical overseas junk product. They are too thick much fatter than most that are commonly found. I has a XL12 that the crank key way was wallered out. a bit of filing and that overseas junk fit tight. (its hardened and requires a bit of effort and a good file) some more filing to make the protruding portion thinner to fit the flywheel and it worked and is still working. Would it be possible to install a regular cap with a duck bill in it and simply plug the hole on the air box?

0:02 I have an XL103 (blue model) that is extremely hard to pull start. If I remove the plug it pulls easy. Any insight on what I can look for ?
What fuel:oil ratio do you run in this saw?
32:1? 40:1?
