  • Here’s the 1990 Action Library videos from the kit sent to all Buick Dealers Participating in the Action Library Program. We are presenting this video series in sections here and in the next series of uploads.
Here’s the exact text from the letter sent to the Dealers with the kit from Gen Sales & Service Manager: R.E. Coletta in September, 1989:
“Here is your 1990 Action Library…Buick’s year-round marketing and product training package designed specifically for in-dealership use by your sales staff.
As we approach the threshold of a new decade, and look back over the past ten years, one fact stands clear…this business of selling cars isn’t going to get any easier. The winners in the very competitive automotive marketplace will be those who have the best quality, provide the best service, and staff the most knowledgeable sales force.
Consequently, each year we attempt to improve Action Library and make it more responsive to your sales needs, and 1990 is no exception. It’s a complete video/print package that includes the latest new product information available. This year we’ve expanded on the Feature Focus section and added a special Glossary of most often used sales and leasing terms.
Take advantage of what Action Library has to offer. Use it as the basis of constructive sales meeting or series of meetings…or simply let the new members of your sales force look it over during the model year. Whichever you do, Action Library holds the Buick 1990 model information that will help increase dealership sales and profit opportunities.
    Best wished and good selling!”

Gorgeous car. wacky ill fitting horn button. So much for quality control. 86 to 88 Riv sales were in the toilet & glad they addressed it for 89/90. I had a similar chrome surround on my 96 Ultra. The 2 hosts are long retired.

Brings back memories of when I worked as a tech. I was working when these came out. They had several different types of videos for each department. This video was intended for sales to show improvements. There was a video for the repair shop showing new engine and trans drive line improvents and repair procedures. And one for auto body showing panel fitment, and new paint techniques. These were boring to set thru sometimes, but it got us out of the shop and we were paid for it.

It's funny that someone at Buick thought a potential buyer would cross-shop a Legend with a Riveria. I had a 1989 Riv and loved it. It was beautiful, rode nice and the Graphic Control Center from 1986 to 1989 was a couple decades before its time. Seriously though a sporty coupe vs a traditional Detroit luxury coupe?! 😂

In 1990 a Riviera cost 23,000 which is 72 thousand in 2020! You can get a great car with so many more features and performance for half that price. So I don't believe people say cars cost more. You get a lot more for your money now.

I disagree, Cars ain't worth the price they charge.

@@quincycooper79 because you aren't objectively looking at what you get for the money

@@quincycooper79 Look at what you get these days on even the most basic of cars. Stuff you would pay thousands more for 10 years ago or wasn't even available. And they are a lot safer if you get into an accident.

@Z Jones I still say that Cars ain't worth the price they charge.

Interesting they compare against GMs own Eldorado.

I wish GM did not kill the 3800. Yes the DOHC 3.6 is efficient and more modern but its just not the same, they could have updated the 3800 and make it more modern in today's world.
