Camping at Nylsvley Nature Reserve in Summer | with Leopards?!

- Welcome back to Dogs of the Wind! In this episode we revisit Nylsvley - this time in the wet season. Nylsvley provides some of the most affordable camping around, and as we mention in the video, there's plenty of bush for your buck.
We were in for a special treat this time, as we met a group of researchers working on a field guide of small mammals. We learned a lot about rodents and other small mammals, like the fact that shrews are actually insectivores, and that small mammals can be an indicator of the health of the veldt. It was therefore not a great sign that there were very few small mammals in the area, but it may have been due to the recent flooding in the region.
We counted ourselves extremely lucky to witness two leopards stalking the edge of the tree-line at Jacana hide one early morning.
This video turned out to be longer than expected, but we hope you enjoy this birding excursion to one of our favourite spots.

❤ Enjoyed your video! Lucky leopard siting at Nylsvlei!
Fantastic shots as always. You guys were lucky to run into some expert researchers in their natural habitat. Getting to learn from them as they do their work must have been a treat!
Thanks Brendan! It was a cool weekend full of surprises
Again, your videos take me to places I've never been but long for!
LOL "plenty of bush for your buck" = bushbuck!
Thank you again for your kind comment! We absolutely love getting feedback☺️
Lovely video. I think your cuckoo is a juvenile Piet my Vrou. I've seen it a few times in the Nylsvley campsite
Oh wow that’s great! We didn’t think about that
Great video? Does anyone have info about the condition of the reserve from the last several months? Some reviews indicate that it’s gone downhill. Thanks!
We have a couple friends heading there in a couple months. We can find out then ☺️
