  • Welcome to part 3 of our 2018 Taiwan Cycling Trip! After a great ride yesterday through the Taroko Gorge, we decided to spend today cycling around the beautiful city of Hualien (花蓮) with our rented road bikes from GIANT Bicycle Co.
We found a nice bike path along the river which took us to another great bike path along the rocky ocean, which had some pretty stunning views.
We kept riding and unfortunately got stuck in the rain and had to take shelter at a nearby convenience store. We took that opportunity to grab some hot Taiwanese bento lunch boxes and refuel before we continued riding into the mountains towards Liyu Lake.
All in all, a great day of cycling! Hualien is absolutely beautiful with all of the stunning mountain scenery so close.

You need to take Thuong fishing if its something she likes. I know guys in Canada that would kill to have a wife that liked fishing.

As a Taiwanese male, I did my national service in the southern Hualien (Guanfu). Just like you've described, after raining the mountains surrounded by clouds are so mysterious and beautiful, and it would be more common to see during winter. I miss the days being there so much, just couldn't be able to plan a trip. Now I've found your video, thank you so much!

It's so beautiful, I would love to come back and experience the different seasons. It's a bit far away from many big cities and the trains are slow, but it's totally worth visiting again if you have time

I lived in Taiwan for 27 years and made many trips along the east coast, most recently two years ago. I stumbled upon your video while looking for a highlight video of my own to send to a colleague. I didn't intend to watch the whole 16 minutes, but the combination of your editing and my familiarity with the different roads and places kept me along for the entire ride. Beautiful storytelling, and thanks for showing more people the beauty and charms of Taiwan ; )

Cool rented giant bikes with carriers. I suppose helmets comes with it. Thanks for bringing me to taiwan as I watched this. I regret not drinking pocari sweat for one year in tokyo. Anyway I am not biking that time or engaged in any sport. But I loved calpis soda esp after sento bath. I think it's still in Japan. I watched last night your vid at Taiwan's night market. Ha ha 55km is a bit more than 20... Thuong is a real trooper, but you have to stop for lunch. Or else she gets moody and grumpy. Thank you for sharing this lovely vlog around Hualien, I am planning to spend several days there during my tour of Taiwan. September seems rainy and humid, and October must be full of PRC Chinese tourists on all-in packaged tours during their national holiday.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

Haha, you understand her pretty well :)
I've heard November is nice. The Chinese tourists shouldn't be a problem if you're cycling around. Just a few more tourist buses ;)

      @gauloisrefractaireenexilvo4366 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for your reply. Ok I will take a look at November, but it will be cold at the top of the mountains. After more than 2 decades in Asia, experience says - skipping lunch is a no-no. During a work meeting or business appointment, coming to noon, participants drop their attention, look at each other, and check their watches every 30 seconds. Time to head for their favorite food joint if you don't want to lose your audience for the rest of the day.

I've watched your "Taiwan day 1" vlog. You can take THSR(Taiwan high speed rail) only in the west prat of Taiwan. The train you took was TRA, it serves both east and west part of Taiwan. THSR would be more smooth and fast, but take the TRA can see more beautiful scenery. Welcome to Taiwan!

To your subscribers, those “Interesting trees” at the 12:50 mark are actually them infamous betel nut trees which causes cancer and government is trying to get people to kick the addiction. You can see them sold often by the highway exits by them booth girls wearing skimpy clothing.

@@TwoWheelCruise was it comax or slr? I almost bought a slightly used second hand but negotiating didn't come to fruition... I ended up with 2017 Raleigh Cadent 4 which is a notch below Fastroad... I'm happy with my Raleigh but Fastroad just looks nice with that curved top tube and bar end bars...
I didn't know Taiwan had such nice bike Lanes. It would be interesting if you can compare bike Lanes from Korea Japan and Taiwan cuz Korea is developing many bike Lanes as of now. I wonder which country has the best bike Lanes.

AH!! Yes we tried to meet up with one of them in ShenZhen when we were there last year... Difficult when TH-cam is banned in the whole of China!! I got a computer but it was very slow up in Yaan.
Lilys parents lived by the G318 which is the longest road in China and we set off by coach on the difficult bit towards Tibet. It is one of the worlds cycling challenges and we met many in hotels and for breakfast!
Still in Sichuan you go over several high places and on the way back we stopped for a pee. Many guys bounced out for a quick fag and struggled back in. 1 ill and 1 collapse? I checked later and it was 4,830 M above sea level! I did years of cycling when younger, am still slim and hit 60 next April!!
The G318 is being replaced with a massive road building project and as we left they opened a 13 K tunnel which replaces the 4 K tunnel. They are still working on the longest and currently highest suspension bridge above Luding where you can still cross an ancient one.
Love from David Lily and Katie.

She doesn't diet, she mostly has good genetics and doesn't eat much junk food. Vietnamese diet is really healthy and they have a lower average bmi than Japan
