Thanks for asking him that question and getting his response. While he didn't mention the potential injury risk in his response to your question, he did mention it in his recap video.
In any other sport this behavior is commonplace and encouraged. As a fan sure, I'd live to see them do every event. As a competitor it's all about being smart, mitigating injury risk, and conserving energy
If Mitch did the final event. Luke would've been up against Mitch instead of Mitchell. And Mitchell would've been up against Luke instead of Luke. And if Mitch had finished the event and placed in between Luke and Mitchell and Luke. Then Luke could've gotten closer to take the third place from Luke. And.. that's about it
Your comment may be a bit hard for people to track, if they didn't watch, due to Lukes and Mitchells. "Luke" and "Mitchell" confusions aside, the pairings would have been: Round 1: Beetham by himself. Round 2: Grekov vs. Francis Round 3: Kordiyaka vs Remick Round 4: L. Stoltman vs Derwinsky Round 5: Nana vs T. Mitchell Round 6: Richardson vs Hooper
@@simenandersen3262 it's becoming fairly common for Mitchell to beat out Mitchell for the top spot on the podium. If Mitch Hughes or Mitch Flowers improve a bunch, we may see a future where Mitch takes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
One problem with not finishing the event is that athletes in the sport are dependent on getting people between themselves and other athletes. Like if you got a shot at the podium but need 2 people in between you and the guy at third place then it's a problem if the top guy isn't doing the event. Like look at the 2008 WSM heats. Mariusz had already qualified but still gave his best at the stones. That made the group very exciting because then there were 3 other guys that had a shot to get second place because if they beat their opponent AND Mariusz they'd gain a "bonus point"
Yeah, I commented on that during the live stream. You could still make the argument that that's really not Hooper's problem (and technically, it isn't), but with prize money on the line for everyone else too... it most definitely matters.
@@JaceLovesStrength in other sports it's a fair-play/sportsmanship rule. Like you can't lose on purpose to prevent a rival team from getting a title/qualification etc.
Hooper is significantly more active than any other strongman in top level events. If the other athletes are getting lapped so hard by Hooper even with all the extra wear and tear on his body, to the point that he can sit out an entire event and still win, then the blame is entirely on the other athletes for not making it competitive against Hooper. Just like it's entirely not Duplantis' fault that he can purposely hold way back and incrementally break the high jump world record every time he competes because nobody else is making it remotely competitive.
@@haitianxu nobody here has held anything against Hooper for skipping the last event. As Jace has said many times, it's not Hooper's responsibility to keep going because the point system is flawed
It's near impossible to predict, because it's less about what he is capable of than it is about what he will need to lift. He will win the event, but I don't know what the winning weight will be.
Yeah, that's pretty obvious. He hasn't needed to do the last event many times lately. That wasn't the point of the video or the question. The point was that he had recently stated that he was going to start attacking and doing the final event with his best effort whether he already had the competition wrapped up or not. And I wanted to know why after he made that declaration he didn't follow through with it on the very first opportunity. It was a fair question, a fact he acknowledged. And he answered it.
I think he should have done a few of the lighter ones just as a confident boost for him cause although it's far from bad but it seems to be his weaker event
Would have been a great moment for England, seeing Luke beat him at stones tho. "the future" nickname and all that. Then again they were in Scotland. And no Scot wants to see that lol
Luke Stoltman and Kane Fancis did extremely well! I thought Trey Mitchell would win the stones, but he only managed a third place finish in them. It's a bit ironic that a third place finish bumped him up to second place overall.
Simplest answer is why risk a bicep injury when Rogue is in three weeks with a chance for a massive payday
Perhaps the simplest answer, but it wasn't his answer. So, I'm glad I asked.

He's super active and I would rather that he save himself and do more competitions, than just do one more event.

The main reason is due to the rogue in 3 weeks. No point risking Injury
