    Meyer Lemon Tree: goo.gl/NZlEZZ
    CLONEX Gel:goo.gl/rWlQw2
    Miracle Grow FAST ROOT:goo.gl/ilWP4q
    Step 1: Take a lemon cutting from the plant where the node or leaf is protruding from. This is where the lemon tree roots will form from the stem.
    Step 2: Now remove the leaf so it will promote and grow roots. Make sure the cutting has a couple leaves on them up top.
    Step 3: Cut the existing leaves in half to help preserve energy and water loss.
    Step 4: Use a powder rooting hormone. Dip the end of the cutting in the hormone powder and tap the excess off.
    Step 5: Take a planting pot with potting mix. Plant the lemon cutting into the soil. The key to this is keeping the soil moist. So if you are concerned about the soil drying out place plastic wrap around the top of the pot without damaging the cutting.
    After 4-8 weeks you will have roots and a brand new baby clone of your current lemon tree!

    I like to take stick or other implement similar to diameter of cutting stem to make hole before I stick the cutting in the potting medium. I think this helps to prevent rubbing off the rooting hormone if just pushing into the soil without this small prepared hole. I was wondering about the as I have an "Improved Meyer Lemon" tree, which I 'assumed' was a hybrid plant and the seed could be unsuitable for propagation.

    Another option for organic cloning agent is a willow tree - you can take a few branch cuttings and make a tea with them overnight - that tea is then sprayed on the cuttings as their first couple of waterings (do not use tap or chlorinated water ).

      @@NMW80 The way that it works can be attributed to two substances that can be found within the Salix (Willow) genus, namely, indolebutyric acid (IBA) and salicylic acid (SA).
      Indolebutyric acid (IBA) is a plant hormone that stimulates root growth. It is present in high concentrations in the growing tips of willow branches. By using the actively growing parts of a willow branch, cutting them, and soaking them in water, we can get significant quantities of IBA to leach out into the water.

    Hi..when you are saying vertical shoots, it's at about 44 seconds in, what is it your pinching off? Is it a leaf? I have four lemon trees they are 3 years old this summer, however they barely started to grow their own extra branches out of the main stem, I have cut the stem back over the years and new branches have grown from that, but this is the first time they've created their own branches off existing areas. I'm still learning about the lemons and the right way to prune and fertilize and so on. Thank you for the help.

    So I rooted a bouquetier de nice sour orange cutting and it's been three months . I checked and found roots to the bottom of the little pot. It's still in my terrarium but I'm wondering when I should remove it or if I should keep it there to produce more roots . It's a large aquarium with moist rocks at the bottom but an air hole at the top. I have one more cutting that grew a few leaves, dropped them, grew more but has not rooted. I'm keeping it there in case it will eventually. The other cuttings rotted because they were in rock wool and too wet so the soil was the better way to go. Now that I have the one baby that rooted, I want to make sure it survives lol

    My son and the rest of the family love mandarins and we ended up getting a seed out of one and it it's about 8inches talk with several different leaves on it. Do you think it will ever bare fruit ever, I know I more then likely will not be the same, also I have several lemon trees and 1 pear tree all from seed. I did it out for fun with my son but would be neat if one of these actually would produce fruit too.

      I don't know where you live, but if you are in USA you can order grafting material for pocket change, it is a Government run project to reduce citrus trees from dying from diseases caused by bad grafting material.
      So, you can order some, watch a tutorial on how to graft citrus trees and pass it on your son too.
      Also, they may not be able to fruit if you don't have the right weather, but that is not something you are going to be able to fix.

    • @lifewithcctran4414
      @lifewithcctran4414 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you grew it from a seed, it's ok. Sometimes it doesn't taste great like the parent tree, but it still can be sweet. Yes it can bear fruits. I use organic fertilizers and even seafood peelings. Sounds funny but all Asians do it. When I have boiled shrimp, I used the leftovers shells and buried it in the by the root. Make sure you don't injured or hit the shovel on the roots. It works. A lot of my friends had sour fruit and I did it several times for them. Their trees are now sweet. My family and relatives did that to countless of trees. Take care of it. Regularly water your trees. Make sure soil is moist but not soaking wet. Also, your mandarin tree should be far from sour trees like lemon tree. If root touches, it can be sour.

    This method failed many times. I tried 5 times with 20 cutting each time on lemon and orange tree cuttings 5 times with 20 cuttings each time ending in complete failure. Then I tried it with a LIMA citrus tree , 20 cuttings and 11 of them took and worked. Tried it with pomegranate cuttings and almost every one of 40 cuttings worked. Also used rooting hormone every darn time. So i went to Walmart and just bought a lemon tree already grown for 12 dollars and it gave fruit the first season. Perfect Eureka lemons. 12 bucks only and problem solved.

      Why not use honey as a rooting hormone.

      easier to buy the trees almost grown and Walmart sells them on sale cheap. 12 bucks a lemon tree that fruits that year. 15 bucks an avocado tree that fruits the next year. I too busy acquiring property to spend that much time . I just like harvesting now.

      M Ppp that’s awesome and cheap. It’s like 35 bucks for a Lemon tree where I live.

      becksta29: Word of caution. You probably only need one lemon tree cause one of my neighbors near my LA home got 4 lemon trees and can't find enough people to give the lemons away to. She gives me two crates of lemons a week and I disperse them best I can. My advise is diversify or zero in on avocado trees. Everyone has need for constant flow of avocados and the nice part is avocados stay preserved on the vine by nature till you need them. No preservatives so you get to keep you liver healthy like it was meant to last.

    Will it work without the powder? And how about if we put it in a potato and then put in the soil.

    What sort of tempeture do the cuttings need to be kept at please? and also, what time of year would be best to do this please? I'm in England so I'm guessing springtime?
    Thank you.

    • @mygardenchannel
      @mygardenchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cuttings can be done anytime. Spring is the best time because that is when the plant is active. if its too cold for the cutting it will just stay dormant, you have the risk of it drying out before it can grow. So, yes...springtime would be best for you sir. Thanks for the question.

    Im having a hard time keeping my lemon tree in balance. Will leaves get yellow and drop off by overwatering?

    • @WestValleyTransparency
      @WestValleyTransparency 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are so many factors which cause citrus leaves to turn yellow and drop. Over watering and under watering can cause a leaf to turn yellow. Nitrogen deficiency can turn a leaf yellow. Citrus are a pain to grow, but worth it when they fruit and flower next year

    when you do the cutting and they start growing how many years until they can fruit. Is it the same time when you start a citrus tree from seed.

    • @mygardenchannel
      @mygardenchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      much quicker to get fruit from a cutting. Average about 2 years sooner is my estimate.

      In my limited experience a meyer lemon cutting began blooming/fruiting in about 2 years, while my quickest meyer seedling to bloom took about 4 years; other meyer lemon seedlings havn't bloomed yet going on about 5 years.

    Do you need 2 lemon trees to pollinate? I have orange trees and don't want sour oranges.. Also, will the potato method work for other cuttings?

    • @cspaugh
      @cspaugh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      myers is self pollinating google will also help lots

    • @seanchurchill5844
      @seanchurchill5844 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The orange and lemon trees will cross pollinate giving you better yields on both trees than you would get with just the single lemon tree. Most places will tell you to have another pollinator. You won't get sour oranges if your orange tree gets pollinated by the lemon. Now if you planted the seeds from those oranges you might get some weird tasting cross breed orange 10 years later when the tree has matured.

    How often should the cuttings be watered?

    • @whatsnext2359
      @whatsnext2359 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just keep the soil moist, so watering frequency may vary in your climate, or keep a bag over it to lock in moisture.

    It actually does matter what kind of substrate you use
