Do we need to fold it in 3rds or can we use a thinner orficast strip?

Hi Hannah,
Yes, you could also use a thinner strip. Here are some instructions for different types of Orficast:
- If using Orficast 3 cm, you will need three thicknesses (so three strips);
- If using Orficast 6 cm, fold in thirds lengthwise;
- If using Orficast More 6 cm, fold in half lengthwise and trim the width.

Hi Nadia,
If the ulnar nerve innervated muscles are not functioning due to nerve trauma, or the ulnar nerve has been repaired and is progressing with healing, but the fingers are still positioning in the claw position, then the anti-claw orthosis is appropriate.
The patient should be evaluated for a claw deformity. If present, the timing of surgical repair or trauma does not matter because this is a functional orthosis and can help the patient. You can evaluate the patient to see if it helps.

Hi, the long term solution for the claw hand due to ulnar nerve palsy is tendon and/or nerve transfers to provide a rebalance for the non-functioning intrinsic muscles and the Adductor Pollicis muscle for pinch.
