I knew the EverdriveMD would work because the console emulates the hardware unlike the retron 5 which dumps the rom first before running in emulation. It is still simply down to how it is implemented.
But is it an emulation machine or it plays 100# cartridges directly?... I'm looking forward to play pirate, repros and homebrew games I hope it would play them all...
cool i just googled the super everdrive lol .. Do you own that?? i have OG megadrive and also MegaRetron HD and chinese everdrive pretty happy with it but noticed doesnt run a few games weirdly Urban Strike.I would check out hyperkins Snes clone if super everdrive is good
For whatever reason, Knuckles in Sonic 2 does not work with the Mega Retron HD that I have, at least with the physical carts. That's especially strange to me, because apart from working just fine in this video, it plays the invididual carts, as well as Blue Sphere and Sonic 3 & Knuckles with no problem. I had to use a patched ROM on an Everdrive flash cart in order to get it to run properly.
What's up! I had went out a got myself one too. And I had thrown in my Lakers vs Celtics and in the NBA playoffs. And . Yes it still works . Wow after all these years a 30 year Sega Genesis tape still working💪. And then I had thrown in Mortal Kombat 1 in my Mega Retron system. And yes the Blood Code still works ABACABB if I am not mistaken!!!!
The Mega Retron HD simulates the Sega Megadrive hardware with hardware. It does not dump the ROM to an emulator because the system is not an emulator. All games run directly from the cartridge through the hardware. This explains why Everdrives work. No idea about a clone Everdrive but the real Everdrives don't use software emulation either. They are FPGA hardware based as far as running the games goes. It's obviously true they have software on them to send the ROM data to the console but it's not emulation. Most if not all other Hyperkin clone consoles do work by emulation so Everdrives for NES & SNES won't work on these.
There is multiple types of emulation. Hardware emulation, software emulation etc. Anything other than the original equipment would be considered as a form of emulation.
If you want to test the accuracy of a clone genesis, try Panorama Cotton, for example on older ATGames Genesis clone this game has a lot of glitches and slowdown, so if your clone is (old) emulation based you'll notice right away.
master system games work via everdrive and 32x might possibly work with special adapters but the video signal would reduced to composite but I have no confirmation on that yet
Anybody else out there have issues with getting their carts into the slot and connect with the pins inside? Almost every cartridge I try takes an extreme amount of effort and fiddling to get it right, everything seems ok once a game fires up but feels like I'm damaging the internals every time 😬 also it didn't want to pass audio through an HDMI splitter into my soundbar but running it direct into my projectors second output and then running audio out was the workaround - not sure if that's an unknown quirk or something to do with HDMI sync for the FM audio? It all looks and sounds great, looking forward to sticking an everdrive in it and not messing around with trying to get my original carts in without breaking a sweat each time.
I wonder if the 32X (With the special cables and such) or the Master system power base would work on this. If so, then I would say it is THE Sega clone to rule them all. :)
How about emulating the 32X. I don't know how it's implemented, but if it's possible that they implemented a megadrive+32X emulation. And how about the sega cd? Probably it doesn't have the cd connector, but, could you boot cd isos with an everdrive o similar from an sd card?
Im surprised with the performance. I was really contemplating on getting one until I scored a for parts genesis model 1 I was able to fix up but im still considering on getting it for the size and the hdmi factor
I've heard in reviews that those collection Sega cartridges don't work on the 3 In 1 Model (NES, SNES, Sega). Is that your guys's experience? Is it working on the singular Sega model and not the 3 in 1?
@@bishopwilliams6817 I would be interested but for a company named analog they sure as fuck dropped analog support from their consoles to cut cost real quick.

I've been debating getting the hyperkin sega or the original Sega hyperkin makes very good quality I have a hyperkin nes controller and I have to say its probably the best nes controller I've ever use and I'm 37 years old and had the nes and sega genesis when they were still very new and big systems at the time I think I'm getting the hyperkin sega it's a reasonable price and plays almost all games so it must be a system on a chip in order to play those games perfectly
For some reason mine can't play sonic 2 and knuckles can anyone tell me whats happening every time I boot it up its just a black screen also does this work with sonic 3 locked on to sonic and knuckles
Its hardware emulation anything other then original hardware is a form of emulation. There is multiple forms of emulation such as Software, Hardware and FPGA which is hardware emulation on a chip.
This is a SOC or system on chip. It doesn't contain the physical ram or Yamaha sound on it. FPGA is hardware simulation and the mega SG will be the perfect Megadrive
Only adding this comment because of the reference to emulation made in the video. This is a hardware clone, not emulation. The console is a Genesis/Megadrive on a chip and for the most part behaves as an original system would. There are issues running Master System games on the Megaretron Hd but have more to do with the upscaler used in the system than the actual console. Great console for those not wanting to mess with old hardware or pay the high prices of FPGA based systems.
Hardware emulation is the process of imitating the behavior of one or more pieces of hardware (typically a system under design) with another piece of hardware, typically a special purpose emulation system.
@@8-Bit_Flashback True. The average Joe however thinks of emulators as being a software based process. I was only pointing out to the less informed that this option is a hardware based system and not the same as the atgames stuff. Good review by the way 😁👍
@@my80chevettes thanks. Yeah it's not always easy to get my point across. Sometimes you have to be super specific not to confuse anyone, especially in the tech world.

Thats nutty buggers... Isnt this system like $45 or something? I've never seen emulation that solid before. Kinda makes fpga pointless. Can it go back to 4:3 though? If it can't, that would be its only downfall that I can see.
Fpga isn't pointless. This is a system on chip and has been done before. FPGA is hardware simulation meaning its been reversed engineered from an actual megadrive.
Wow! Impressive, the system did very well under those circumstances. It's been on my radar for a while but now I'm really getting one.
