Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then he created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 he released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

Its almost not fair to other vocalists just how good this woman is..... She is like a super hero, she has it all.... passion, feeling, emotion, and truly stunning best in the world technique. She is at once incredibly delicate and roaring with power at the same time, ..... technical power that few singers can match. Ballad, pop, rock, opera, and absolutely ZERO comprises to achieve all of these things. Laura sang the original, and for some there will be no other, but again i say, with Floor its almost unfair, ..... she's just too good at what she does...... and i thank God to live in the time of this womans vocals!

Even if I had never heard of After Forever, ReVamp, Northward, Nightwish, Floor's solo album or many other collaborations. But only saw her singing Adagio and Oblivion. I would still think she was one of the most amazing vocalists on the planet.

One of Floor's superpowers is her storytelling ability, the way she's so expressive and emotional. When I watch her perform this (or pretty much anything else), I believe every word that comes out of her mouth. It never feels like just a song. The only person I'd compare her to in that regard is the great Aurora.

In Italian it would be "almeno doppia pelle d'oca se non di più", I didn't expect it, I've never even seen this performance and it's great! Yes, Lara is a different singer, different music genre, different timbre but I'm delighted!

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific parce.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music composition and different lyrics (Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer of this new version.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Julie Anne San Jose, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, Evgenia Fanfara, , …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.

Of her corona covers I very much like Alone because of het ability to tell a story. I might be biased, but even in this performance I think Floor is more expressive and more convincing than Laura Fabian herself. The other one that stands out to me is het metal version of Ave Maria. She used that performance as examples in one of her masterclass videos. When you analyse that Ave Maria, you could combine that with her own commentary of how and why she sings parts of that song the way she did.

I’ve never heard this mix before. Floor’s vocals are extremely in the front and you can’t almost hear any of the instruments or background vocals which were also sung by Floor. I’m wondering did you remix this to bring the vocals forward or is this somewhere already on TH-cam?
This time I've asked help to a video editor cause the video should be blocked in some countries due to copyright issues and she proposed me to modify the audio so I asked if it was possible to put the voice forward without distorting the sound, this is good for me to give more space to the voice😉

Lara is an amazing singer as well. Floor expresses such sorrow and desperation in her interpretation of this wonderful song. Then she powers up for a breathtaking and powerful ending.
Floor recorded and filmed this in her home studio on a very low budget. She was doing these covers for all of her fans during the lockdowns.

Thank you for this great reaction and analysis! One question if I may; is this a remastered version? Because in the original on Floors site, the music is much more prominent, even 'hiding' her voice (mostly in the first half of the song), which I always felt to be such a shame... here, the music is really put to the background, giving her beautiful voice and interpretation so much more 'center stage' and in your face (well...ears to be specific...😊) bravado! A very nice surprise!!! Not the first time she 'did' this; the first video of her 'Let it go' cover had the same issues, but she posted a remastered version on her website herself... really wondering where you found this gem! So, thank you again, love your channel!

Indeed. You are right. And I like that Floor's voice is more in the foreground now. However, the processing also has an unfortunate effect in this case. Because, in the way the original version by Floor was recorded (in her singing shed in her garden, and mixed and engineerd by her husband and Tommy Johanson of Sabaton) there is a bit of an metallic overtone (which probably would not have happend in a professional studio), which gets even more prominent in this filtered version...

Great and very interesting reaction! Only one question: the recording sounds somehow different... There is a strange metallic "shimmer" on the sound of Floor's voice that is not (or much less) on the original recording. Also the instrumentation seems to be much less in the foreground... Did you process this recording (or have it processed) in some manner?

There are better way's to solve that copyright problem. I have seen other video's where the reactor had applied a VISUAL watereffect on the image for instance. In that way the voice would still have been original....

@@ronaldderooij1774 Ok, that may be true, but there is something that I already noticed in the original recording and that is some kind of metallic effect that is not in Floor's voice, but some kind of recording artefact. And in this recording it is much more noticable, maybe because the background is less. And by the way: reducing the background in an integrated recording still involves processing ALL of the data (unless she had access to the original multitrack pre-master recordings but somehow I don't think that that was the case...), so it can still have an influence on the voice too.
This cover really shows that Lara Fabian is by far untouchable.

i'm a huge fan of Floor Jansen and of Nightwish; However i believe nobody can match Lara Fabian, even not our beloved Valkyrie Queen !
Nope, which version you prefer is question of taste and preference. First of all this video is processed with a soundfilter, which produces a strange metallic overtone. Second ms Fabian and Floor have roughly the same vocal ability, with maybe a little edge for ms Fabian, allthough Floor can do MANY things that ms Fabian can not, such as Growling, Belting, distortion, operatic and classical singing, etc. However, I like Floor's version better, simply because of the different energy that she brings to the song. ms. Fabian's interpretations are too passive and demure for me.

One tip, however : to be a succesfull comedian (standup or otherwise) you must be VERY SHARP and ON TOP of the subject matter. This singer did a pretty cover, without worrying too much about getting the notes right, but it was a decent effort. I believe that it is not the style of music that this singer is used to sing, but the goal was not that it was good, but to have a little fun. Anyone who knows the original music of Mrs Lara Fabian, especially live can see where this singer went to get inspiration, it is an almost exact copy of Mrs Lara's way of singing but obviously without the same level of competence and quality. But as I said the goal of this singer would be to have a little fun. Was this recorded at a karaoke bar?
