Nah, he wasn't fighting for pole position the whole video, he was trying to get around slow fuckers that were wasting him energy because he had to brake and then pedal again which will fatigue your muscles allot quicker instead of using the momentum of gravity and just letting it roll. the one guy wasn't letting him pass or couldn't because it was on twisty turns but after he got past him he was able to manage his energy a bit better for the rest of the track until he came across another road block. In his mind he wasn't fighting for first, just finishing the race, this event looks and sounds exhausting since majority of the time you're trying to keep balance which is were most of your energy is getting burnt. People may think its easy because its downhill but that's not true when the terrain is rocky...it costs more energy to stabilize yourself.
This video really sums up the mega avalanche experience. Carnage, frustration never ending trails and the feeling of exhaustion at the end. The start music gets me pumped everytime. All the people commenting about the shouting at other riders have obviously never ridden a track this long. Shouting is the only way to pass safely, when basically ever rider is super tired and solely concentrating on getting to the finish and not worrying about people behind them.
Ironic, on a part where it is wide open and smooth he questions people who are going fast and he wouldn't do that, yet farther down where it is rocky, narrow and turns he is complaining about the other person going slow. I am sure that person is thinking what Ben was at the top of the hill. He'll go as fast as he feels comfortable for that area.
The snow part looked fun. Even the crash looked fun. Probably hurts like hell but hey, any crash you can get up and ride off is a fun crash. The rock part looked horrible but the forest looked awesome, damn the trails are wide there and so flowy. Of course , if I ever get to do that, I'd probably go pretty slow and just have fun, honestly I'd probably come in last no matter how hard I try
@@Rose_Butterfly98 I know of a bike that could take a hit or two. The rockrider XC100S, an alloy 120mm full sus XC bike with an NX eagle drivetrain. funny because its like two totally different races.....this guy seems like he's about to die at the end and Damien (the winner) is barely even breathing hard!
Seriously cant understand these discussions in the comments. If someone is infront of you its common practice to shout "rider", "on the left" or so to the rider in front. Take a look at 13:14 as a perfect example how its done. And if you look how many cuts it needed till he passed the other guy it shows how long it took till he could overtake. In a race i can totally understand that its frustrating and on somepoint your breaks overheat due to accordeon effect and it wears you down even more than it does anyway. So dont make such a drama out of this, its still a race and a tiny little bit more stressful than a chill day at the bikepark...
I don't think people are shocked at him saying "rider", it's more the fact that he took the piss out of one guy for passing him saying he was "fighting for 150 millionth place" and then got a bit further down and swore at this guy cos he couldn't get past.
in Cross country/harescrambe/hard enduro dirt bike racing its common practice to let a faster rider pass even pro hard enduro guys in third place have let the 4th person go in front of them so they are not battling to keep his spot intern losing energy
Philip Wächter it's just people who don't know what they're talking about and don't know how passing is done in MTB races. One guy was using "they don't let you pass in f1!" as his argument as if that the was somehow relevant.
This is true of MTBing in general....but It's a RACE and the riders in front are vying and racing for the same position, so under what obligation or trail etiquette should a rider just simply pull over and 'gift' the position they already fought hard for? Thats literally 'a day at the bike park' and the very opposite of racing. Just like literally ANY other human-powered sport or indeed motorsport, you have to look for or create the opportunity to make the pass (however frustrating that might be), you can't just drive/ride/swim/run/row up to the person in front and yell at them "im behind you, time to pull over and gift me your position". The POV footage was amazing but the attitude and arrogance was verging on embarrassing........"even though i'm behind you, i think i'm faster, therefore I will yell and cuss at you until you pull over so I can take your race position", then on to the next one. *sigh*.
The problem when a competitor is misplaced in the group by an early accident. You are faster than **everyone** near you, but that is not enough. You need to get past them, too!
Of course you'll swear and take the piss when you're competitive like that and under constant pressure, always looking for millisecond opportunities to pass & missing a ton of them, swearing can actually HELP you handle pressure situations. I don't doubt he loved it

Only real whining I reviewed in this video is this particular comment section. He’s worked hard and it’s a competition, why shouldn’t he when he’s trying to rationalize how quickly he’s getting down? I’d be muttering shit as well as I get down even without my GoPro, I’m sure a lot of the winners did as well.

It does matter and the principle* is not the same. There are places where it's safe to pass and there's places where it isn't. For whatever reason, there's a ton of people that seem to be commenting on this video that have no idea about the rules and culture of downhill MTB racing. There's certain things that are frowned upon or outright illegal in many places, one of which is not letting faster riders pass - another is attempting to pass in an unsafe spot. Doing either of these things will get you DQ'ed and/or banned in a lot of races. These races are competitive, but above all there is supposed to be an emphasis on safety which starts with having respect for other riders and their safety. This sport is dangerous enough without cutting people off or trying to squeeze past them in an unsafe area... just because it didn't end badly in this situation doesn't make it ok or acceptable and no serious racer would have any issue with him voicing his displeasure for either that pass or the guy who wouldn't get over further down the trail.

When I saw that part of the video I thought he said a hundred and fifty million (as in money)
2:34 "It's fuckin' dangerous!" - surprised it took two whole minutes to establish that 😂 great video!
The surprise in his voice is priceless.
The beginning js always my favorite part. Nothing like going full speed down a steep snowy mountain to make your adrenaline rush!
2:15 Was the very moment you knew death was coming lmao. That crash was epic, full send into the snow wall. Lad.
Oblivion sure wasn't a half send. 👍
XD
The "snow" out there is hard as ice. Hurts like hell.
that was hilarious when that guy dove to avoid your bike
Oblivion that was an ice wall
So that is why men die so early compared to women.
Lol, you believe that the majority of men who died early did this type of biking?

Tegan Burns are you the guy who went skydiving
I died when he said . " ballsie, fighting for 150 millionth." Hahahaha
Lol yeah, all the while hes doing the exact same shit all video.
Yep ... quite funny :D.
Spe ggy he said he’s just trying to get off
Time?
WAtching this video made me burn 37000 calories.

My cardio wasn't ready for this video.. I'm worn out! 😂 Awesome video! Good job!

This was one of the most aesthetically pleasing videos I've watched in a while... Thank you.

The thing with that bike is that it can fit 27.5+ wheels, 27.5 and 29", so I could fit 27.5'x2.8 and I would survive, in theory. Also, it's cheap! A full sus with an NX 12 speed drivetrain, Manitou Markhor 120mm tapered Boost fork, a Manitou Radium shock, and 12.8kg, all for 1300€!

this guy would have taken 1st if he didnt get wiped out then stuck on the side.
I don't think people are shocked at him saying "rider", it's more the fact that he took the piss out of one guy for passing him saying he was "fighting for 150 millionth place" and then got a bit further down and swore at this guy cos he couldn't get past.
those people are just not willing to make pass from a fast rider from, i guess they are all biginners
in Cross country/harescrambe/hard enduro dirt bike racing its common practice to let a faster rider pass even pro hard enduro guys in third place have let the 4th person go in front of them so they are not battling to keep his spot intern losing energy
*sigh*.
8:45 the true mvp XD

@@RhyhornTV First he is complaining about the guy in black and yellow "fighting to be the 150 millionth" but then is rude towards others who he is fighting with for his own position. That's an English man for ye
that is just competitive attitude, just doing what you have to do to keep your head in it, keep you driving forward. cant think nice when you want to take that persons trophy away. crush their dreams... Battling for 1st or 29th its all the same.
Complaining about other riders running around him "literally fighting for 150 millionth place", then 3 seconds later doing the same thing himself.
thats what pissed me off.
His brakes were fuhkin' burhnin' though!
he's not complaining about the guy passing him, he's complaining about where and how he chose to do it.
Buttfart does not really matter because the principal is the same...
