Yes but don't count out Ragan. I'm not sure about the juniors but I've seen Maile O'Keefe and she is very good. 2020 trials will be interesting. I already can't wait! I'd love a team of those four but it depends on how strong the three past Olympians comebacks are and if Ashton keeps it up.
Actually I don't know about Ashton. Remember there will only be four people so I'm not sure if they'll take specialists. Will they still do 4 people do the event in qualifications and then only 3 in team finals? If so Ashton may not be going but if they change the rules a bit she could.
there's a good chance the team will be made up of people who you don't even know exist yet. the only ones i can see making it to tokyo are simone and laurie tbh
Aly saw the guy coming to scare her parents, yet she still jumped a tiny bit LOOL 1:51 Though maybe she got scared more due to her parents' reactions lmao.
So incredibly proud of her. I've looked up to her since I was a young gymnast, and have watched her compete many times. She deserves those medals more than anyone. :)
No,she'll be 26. She is 22 now and the Tokyo Olympics are in 4 years. Also 26 isn't old at all but for gymnastics it's practically ancient. Most gymnasts retire before age 20 because it gets harder when you get older.
I love aly raisman like I'm proud of her and I feel like she's the best in the world what a great inspiration you are my favorite and I am so looking up to you since I do gymnastics👌👌😙💙💪💪💪
Some of these comments are so disappointing... If Aly wants to have a shot at 2020 then let her go for it! It's most definitely not going to be easy and we don't know how it will turn out but it's amazingly impressive that she has the passion and is willing to work towards a third Olympic games!
iluvdance00 Gymnastics is basically Aly's whole life, she's so addicted to the sport it's insane, and she works so hard. I don't know if she'll make it but I'm so glad she's going for it.
iluvdance00 I dot know why people want to be against her for trying to go to 2020. You’d think people would be supportive. I guess others don’t like to see someone so determined and beautiful succeed.
I was so excited to hear she'd be on Ellen! My favorite! Her and Simone were both so precious, haha. I can't wait to see her start training for Tokyo. Her chances aren't as good of making it but you never know, she is such a hard worker so if she keeps up the good work she could do it! Love her! :)
People saying she'd be old LOL she was told she was old to compete in Rio at 22 and in the next Olympics Simone will be 23!! not exactly young either... age doesn't matter as it used to, i think many athletes put this idea in their minds that their age will limit them... she is A LOT better than in 2012, watch her performance... she can win AA GOLD in Tokyo if she keeps improving as she did for Rio... her age doesn't matter she's improving and that's all that matters... many gymnasts are competing in their late 20's, 30's and even in 40's, yes they didn't medal but they're NOT Aly Raisman... this woman is made of steel ;) #AlyforTokyo2020
Pluto Mars /?? for gymanstics being over 21 is considered too old for the sport and impossible even... they criticize her age but she's amazing and she's gonna make it in tokyo at the age of 26 :)
Her parents are so cute. I remember that clip when Aly's mom turned her back towards Aly, trying not to look but then she kept turning around to see what was going on :)
Yes,very true! I only saw a little bit of track so I'm not entirely sure but Allyson Felix was somebody I remember for sure,I didn't even think about her! Also yeah Usain Bolt ALWAYS but I was mainly highlighting America since that's most of what NBC covered and I really only watched gymnastics and a little bit of swimming and track.
Disney really should contact this girl, she sounds like she can pull it off. She has an enchanting princess voice and if she can sing that's gonna be perfect. SHE HAS IT. If this happens I'll.. well, IDK? Say I called it? But it'd be amazing cause she sounds like one.
Bob Doubter I think once she retires (whether before or after Tokyo) she'll do a lot of announcing and such for the gymnastics world. She does model some since she designs leos.
So happy she's going to keep going until Tokyo! I would love for her to make the four-person team since team members are nearly guaranteed a gold medal, but she could also get one of the specialist spots with her high-scoring floor routine!
She's planning to keep training, and she's not "retired" but anything can happen in 4 years (good and bad). There are never any guarantees - that's why her parents re such nervous wrecks when she's competing. She's 22 now. When Tokyo comes she'll be 26 - she could have a totally different life by then, depending on who she meets and what she does in the next year or two. She could become a sports caster, or own her own gym and have discovered a future Aly that she coaches herself! 4 years is a very long time. I wouldn't bet on any athlete, much less one in a high-risk sport like gymnastics, competing in 3 Olympics, no matter how talented she is.
Yes,we never know. I believe if anyone can do it,she can though. She's such a hard worker. Even if we don't see her in Tokyo we will see her in competitions and I can't wait to see what the future holds. Heck,I'd love to hear her as a commentator for gymnastics, she'd be good at that if something went wrong such as injury or loss of passion (although I don't see her losing her passion anytime soon, haha) Wherever she is in the future I'm sure it will be a great place and I can't wait to see her back in training! :)
GrangerDangerx Every 4 years, for what feels like just a few weeks, the US remembers competitive gymnastics and how much fun it is to watch, even for people who know nothing about the sport. Then, autumn arrives, the American public has collective amnesia for almost 4 years. True fans, plus a few others, keep watching gymnastics during non-Olympic years (and pay for tickets to the exhibitions to see world-class gymnasts at their very best, live) but most people didn't think about the sport since Gabby and the Fierce 5 won in London in 2012. My hope is that this time America will not forget gymnastics between now and Tokyo, because of the US's second consecutive Team Gold and All-Around Gold, plus fact that all of the Final Five are beautiful and poised, photogenic and well-spoken. I'd like to see regular coverage of gymnastics on the sports pages, and widespread broadcast coverage of the Secret U.S. Classic, P&G Championships, World Championships, and all the other meets where the world's best gymnasts compete.
She can't really say she's going to Tokyo. She has no clue if she is or not. She can try for Tokyo but by that time she will be 25/26 or so. The chances are not great.
Yes! Tbh I think Aly also has some luck this quad. Like in 2015, she almost is not sure locked for the team. Maggie is looking better than her. But then Most of her competitors were injured left and right so Aly took advantage of that since she is not much injury proned. But I don't know if her knees can survived another quad. Tokyo2020 only has four spots. The competition would be tougher.
I agree that her chances aren't as good but I know why she is doing it. She doesn't want to wonder "what if she tried." Id love to see her on the team since she's my favorite gymnast but there will be new people, and Laurie and Simone will be coming back I'm sure. However I believe if anyone can do it,Aly can. She works so hard!
She can go to support the team even if she doesn't make it. Glad she's gonna give it a try though. It'll be tough in 4 years, I mean Nastia tried to get back into the Olympics back in 2012, but she couldn't do it and she was only 22 then. It'll be that much harder when Aly is 26, but I have faith
^What she said. If it's a famous person and they get hate, they won't see it and if they do they are used to it or just ignore it (yes it will hurt but it just happens) If an everyday person comes on the show, they may find their video on TH-cam and if they got hate it would probably matter more. It's smart.
It will be very hard, but anything is possible. Especially with the new system in place. And in 2004 our team had a 25 and 26 year old on the team. I think the biggest challenges for Aly will be how much she wants it again, her health and how difficult her routines are when going up against the younger athletes..
Specialists are people who just do certain events. For example, gymnast Ashton Locklear (alternate for Rio) is a specialist on bars and sometimes does beam. She never does floor or vault. Yes,it will be harder for Aly,and I don't know if I can see her in Tokyo but you never know. If anyone can do it,she can,she is a very hard worker and Mihai will push her.
I don't really understand why she wants to try for a third Olympics. She's already had two very successful games and at 26, I don't see her making it especially with her taking a year off. Just because she was better this time around doesn't mean she will continue to get better. There will be way too many girls who are peeking and just as talented. Will also be way harder given it will only be a four member team. Just give someone else a chance already. She doesn't seem like she has many goals in life if all she wants to do is train for Olympics after Olympics.
She's a professional athlete. Gymnastics is her career at this point in time. Gymnastics also gives her opportunities to pursue her other passions, such as fashion. She is making a living doing what she loves to do, and she is one of the best in the world at what she does. Would you rather she retire, get an office job, and hate her job like most people? I say she should keep going as long as she has a passion for it. Also, the team is reduced to four people, but countries also have the possibility of qualifying two specialists via World Cup results, so the U.S. will almost certainly have six spots in 2020 (one more than in Rio). I'm sure Aly will try for the team since being on the team almost guarantees her a gold medal, but she could easily qualify for a specialist spot since her floor is always a medal threat. Also, Brestyans (her gym) is finally hiring a separate bars coach, so I'm hoping the new coach can improve Aly's bars. She was a top AAer even with a pretty significant weakness on bars. If the new bars coach can improve this weakness, she could easily be at her absolute best at 26. Aly tends to stay healthy while many other talented gymnasts suffer injury after injury (knock on wood), so I think she is fully capable of another three years.
+SheaNDamon1829 I guess it will depend on how badly she wants another Olympic medal. She doesn't have to stay in Gymnastics to pursue her career. Look at the other girls like Nastia, Shawn and Jordin Wieber who aren't athletes but are still very active in the sport. I just feel that by the time Aly will return to the sport that the competition will be way too stiff. There are going to be new rising stars and even though Aly was very strong this time around, it will be hard to tell if she can keep up with the other girls who are just as good, if not better than she is. Aly says she gets better with age but athletes stop peaking at a certain point. And I don't know about there being two extra specialists. it's been made very clear that there will only be four on the next Olympic team. I would think that if there are going to be specialists they will be within the four-member team. Is it impossible for Aly? No. But I wouldn't count on her being there.
sunshine11931 Read the highlights of the new code. It's four member teams plus the possibility of qualifying two specialists completely separate from the team. It's clear as day. Also, all the arguments you're making against Aly were also said when she was trying to come back for 2016, and look how that turned out. I'm not saying she's guaranteed a spot. Of course she isn't. But everyone at USA Gymnastics says that Aly works harder than anyone else. Mihai would not put up with Aly half-assing her training, so she's either all in or not training at all. I really think she can do it. She's definitely proven herself capable of keeping up with the very best, even with gymnasts significantly younger than her. Plus, she's going after Shannon Miller's record of being the most decorated American Olympic gymnast. She only needs one more medal to tie and two to break it (of course, Simone could easily surpass her if she continues for another Olympic cycle).
+SheaNDamon1829 You people seriously act like Aly is undefeated and she will always be better than anyone else she competes with. No athlete stays strong forever. That 42-year-old gymnast hasn't even won a medal since 2008. I don't think Aly is untalented and 22 doesn't even seem that old for an Olympics; I just said at 26, it's probably going to get to the point where it's extremely difficult to keep up with younger girls who are peeking. I don't think it's impossible for her to make it but I really doubt she will be chosen again,
Elise Marie I don't know how you got that I think she's "undefeated" out of what I said. That's clearly not true. I simply said she works her but off, which is one of the reasons why she is my favorite gymnast. I also think that if anyone has a chance of making the US team at 26, it's Aly. As I said, she has a history of staying healthy while other gymnasts suffer injury after injury. That's a big part of the battle. It really doesn't matter how much natural talent you have. If you can't stay healthy, you aren't going to reach your highest level. The 2016 cycle definitely proved that. Some of the most promising young talent (Bailie Key, Norah Flatley, Nia Dennis, Jazmyn Foberg) didn't even make trials because of injuries. She also clearly loves gymnastics and is willing to put in the work again. As long as the passion is still there, I think she has a good chance. Aly also has consistency and a proven track record of delivering under pressure (for the most part), and that is incredibly important. Again, you can have all the talent in the world, but if you can't hit when it matters most, it doesn't amount to anything. Many of the current juniors have serious consistency issues. I realize they are young and have time to improve their competition skills, but it's certainly not guaranteed that they will. I just don't understand why people choose to be negative about her decision. She may continue and not make the team in 2020, but I think she will be happy that she at least tried. It's better than wondering what could have been.
saskewoo Me too,but I'm bias because Aly has always been my favorite. I definitely think Simone is better but I enjoy watching Aly more on floor and sometimes beam.
I'm so happy, she is going to train to Tokyo!
I hope she will do it. 😍
I feel like if anyone can,it's her! She works so hard. She won't have as good of a chance at making it but I truly believe she could do it.
+GrangerDangerx I think it will be her, Simone, Laurie and Ashton in Tokyo
Yes but don't count out Ragan. I'm not sure about the juniors but I've seen Maile O'Keefe and she is very good. 2020 trials will be interesting. I already can't wait! I'd love a team of those four but it depends on how strong the three past Olympians comebacks are and if Ashton keeps it up.

I know right? 😍
Stop being so dramatic.
GAHHBU ini
these silver medals feel like a gold because Simone is an x-men is basically what she said lmao
this cracked me up 😂😂👍
Hahahahahahaha
Omg I love her so much, she's so cute!Aly for Tokyo 2020!!😍
And here we are now :)
Aly is soooooo gorgeous, I admire her determination, teamwork, and her ability to see the positivity of everything.
She’s amazing! Her parents did one good job.
I heart you Aly Raisman!!!Making America PROUD!AMAAZING ROLEMODEL!!! Tokyo2020
Aly saw the guy coming to scare her parents, yet she still jumped a tiny bit LOOL 1:51 Though maybe she got scared more due to her parents' reactions lmao.
Haha I feel like sometimes they can tell. Daniel Radcliffe wasn't scared that one time because he saw the shadow of the guy.
And I think she jumped because she didn't expect him to scream, haha
Hahaha yeah! Was just thinking that too! :P Though idk what else she expected him to do tbh lool!
Like Ellen said "we should have had her performing and that would've scared you more" haha
So incredibly proud of her. I've looked up to her since I was a young gymnast, and have watched her compete many times. She deserves those medals more than anyone. :)
Same here 😊😊❤
God she's so pretty
She shares my birthday
She'll be 26 or 27 when 2020 comes around! I hope she doesn't change her mind! But she can do it :)
She will turn 26 in May of 2020 so just 26 :)
actually 28
you're talking like anyone is aged at 28. What's wrong with u?
No,she'll be 26. She is 22 now and the Tokyo Olympics are in 4 years. Also 26 isn't old at all but for gymnastics it's practically ancient. Most gymnasts retire before age 20 because it gets harder when you get older.
You probably will all be listening to Kanye's campaign and his music
That was a very awkward scare. It was cringe worthy in a way.
That's because of how nervous they are lol
Yes haha. Aly saw him coming
Yeah, that was so planned.
She is very pretty and sweet and mature. Somebody will be a lucky guy. I'm talking about Aly, not Ellen, BTW.
Hahahahaha XD
Or girl. Who knows?!
+liina000 boii.

Also is this really the full interview? Seems kinda short.
I like this girl so much. She has such a great personality, very humble. The perfect wife. I really like the friendship between her and Biles.

Moka A. I am indeed :D I'm rooting for her, and for simone :D even though I'm canadian XD

She won't be 28,she'll be 26,and for gymnastics that's old. Once you hit around age 20 it gets harder.
Proud to say I went to the same high school with this amazing athlete and was only a four years behind her
Her parents are so cute. I remember that clip when Aly's mom turned her back towards Aly, trying not to look but then she kept turning around to see what was going on :)
Scare was lame. More Aly talking and less stupid scaring
IKR
hahaha Aly saw the man and was not surprised or scared even the least! now that's the reaction of an olympic champion :D
she's just like "I literally handle the fear of dying (not quite but you get what I'm saying) every day and you thought you could scare me?"
oh wow I never would of thought she would train again for Tokyo!! She has some really guts! Im so excited!!!!
SHE IS MY FAVORITE PERSON
the girls owned these Olympics (well, besides phelps)
Phelps and the Final Five were the highlights of the Olympics (at least for the US of course)
Would you date Aly Raisman or Missy Franklin ?
+GrangerDangerx The women killed it on the track, too!
Yes,very true! I only saw a little bit of track so I'm not entirely sure but Allyson Felix was somebody I remember for sure,I didn't even think about her! Cool.
Her dads delayed reaction when he got scared is the best haha
I really hope she can stay healthy and not get injured. I would love to see her break Shannon Miller's medal record in Tokyo. I love watching her.
Omg!!! 😭❤️ im so proud of her!
She's so beautiful 😍
I kinda screamed when I saw Aly in the title 😭❤️😍
.Thanks for your comment and for being a fan, God bless you.... I text you on here because you're a big fan and you seems to be a very nice person 😍.
Aly going to Tokyo the best news I heard since the Olympics finished

She can't really say she's going to Tokyo. She has no clue if she is or not. She can try for Tokyo but by that time she will be 25/26 or so. The chances are not great.
In America, where there is a much deeper pool of gold-medal worthy gymnasts, it's much more unlikely for an older gymnast to be selected for the team.

Michelle From what I heard the team will now only have 4 people at the next Olympics and 2 specialists. I'm not sure if that will be Worlds as well.
ohh ok. What are specialists? (thanks in advance haha) :)
Marie should be on Ellen 😁
I think aly is gonna take gold next olympics

Read the highlights of the new code.

I don't know how you got that I think she's "undefeated" out of what I said.
She is so bae-utiful.
Ellen’s scares are fun but this was lame, I wanted to actually hear from the parents.
Am I the only one that thinks that the guy looked like Ethan from h3h3 on the thumbnail? 😂
totes awesome!
She is very strong
Simone Biles is like the Micheal phelphs of gymnastics. Everyone already knows she's going to win.
HOW ARE THE COMMENTS ON?
Aren't they usually turned off for non-celebrities?
They are usually on for celebrates and turned off for guests who aren't widely known.
I actually liked her performances much better than Simone's...
saskewoo Me too,but I'm bias because Aly has always been my favorite. I definitely think Simone is better but I enjoy watching Aly more on floor and sometimes beam.
ellen season 14!!!!!!!!!!
Hilarious to jump scare people dealing with post traumatic stress.

😂😂💔🔪.
Unfortunately, she won't compete in Tokyo, snifff...
